ZD Top 5 – Fairies

November 05 2015 by Mark Olson

Ever since the very first Zelda game, fairies have played a role in one form or another throughout the series. Whether they grant Link special skills, accompany him on his journey, or heal him when he’s down for the count, these magical beings have always had a hand in saving the land of Hyrule. To recognize all their efforts over the years, we had some of the Zelda Dungeon staff recount their five favorite fairies, from their humble roots as…

The Legend of Zelda series has brought us many fairies in all shapes and sizes. Some that we have grown to rely on, some we have learned to love, and some, well some are just a tad bit annoying. Ever wonder how many fairies there really are in the Zelda series? Now YouTube Channel Master0fhyrule (and its not a typo, he actually uses a zero) brings us a video compilation that includes every fairy seen in the history of The…

I was recently playing through Zelda II: The Adventure of Link (as I am known to do sometimes), and was quickly reminded of how useful the Fairy Spell is to gameplay. With the power to increase mobility and skip passed doors, the Fairy Spell is one of many awesome spells present in Zelda II. “Hey!” “Watch out!” Fans of Ocarina of Time likely read the first three words of this article in Navi’s voice. Navi aids Link in his quest to fight Ganondorf, but at the end of Ocarina of Time, the fairy mysteriously leaves Link behind. I wanted to delve into what I consider the underlying reason Link went after Navi…

What does Zelda borrow or mimic from Celtic myths? Celtic mythology is responsible for such Zelda staples as Epona and Fairies, and there are a number of other notable and even shocking consistencies between the mythology and the Zelda series. Celtic myth is about warriors and heroes sent into battle instead of gods and spirits to save lands, fight evil creatures, rescue fair maidens, and discover magical artifacts. Zelda is modeled after fantasy tropes, and many of them date back…

In a recent comic of GaMERCat titled “Potion Puree” we see Gamer Cat trying to be a little more conscious of the plight of the fairies by choosing to buy and drink potions for health. Believing that the potions are a much better method to fill up hearts that does not cause any fairies to die in the process. However his sidekick Annoying Fairy shows him exactly how wrong he can be by taking him into the back of the…
