I don’t think any real Zelda fan would say that a dungeon is a dungeon is a dungeon, right? When you walk into a dungeon, you know that’s what it is, but they are always different, in every new game. How do we know, though? When you think about it, beyond a short sweeping intro shot, or a visible title, there is little that definitively indicates that you are in one of Zelda’s staple dungeons. Sure, you almost always end…

A Link to the Past established many of the Zelda series’ staples and stabilized the gameplay style we’ve now seen time and time again in its progeny. Having been remade, ported, and given a spiritual successor in A Link Between Worlds, A Link to the Past remains a fan favorite among longtime Zelda players. One of the greatest things about the game is its diverse and challenging set of dungeons and palaces. Each one has a personality all its own,…

But now, we have…

In most Zelda games, you’ll find a specific pattern repeated throughout every dungeon. One of these being the mini-boss of each dungeon and usually, they’re pretty easy to defeat (unless they have something more complicated to them). You can even find them outside of dungeons! There are tons of mini-bosses, sometimes some are brought from a previous installment to another. But the question here is: Which is your favorite? To read more into it, hit the jump to check it…

A number of elements have to be pulled off and blended well to make a dungeon something special; often, however, the most memorable dungeons stick out in player’s minds because of one thing: the atmosphere. In this week’s ZD Top, ZeldaDungeon staff members recount five of their favorites. As always, feel free to leave your…

In games like Ocarina of Time, designating a specific element to each dungeon made perfect sense because each corresponded to a Sage of said element. In many Zelda games a similar pattern is followed, either by having the player collect element specific items within the temples or placing them in provinces that bear the same elemental traits as the dungeon residing in it. This made receiving and using specific weapons in each temple viable, but with a new age of…

Every game has to have an ending, Zelda games included, and though a nice final boss is great, it’s even better when backed up by a stellar final dungeon. Some offer a new and challenging experience while others opt to run players through a gauntlet of the challenges encountered on their journey. On this weeks ZD Top, we asked staff members to showcase those final dungeons which brought the game to an enthralling close.
