It is a truly sad day in the world. Beloved actor and comedian, Robin Williams has passed away at the age of 63. The Zelda series has lost one of it’s oldest, most beloved fans, and he will truly be missed. To hear more on the story, please follow the jump.

Over the span of almost 28 years, through all 17 of his games and plenty of spin-offs, Link has accumulated quite a collection of quests and adventures. Unfortunately for him, these heroic tales are guaranteed to come with numerous deadly situations. Now, most of Link’s deaths make sense, as the human (or Hylian) body is only capable of taking so much. But occasionally, the factors which cause Link to die or to live simply don’t add up. These situations fall…

Alarming buzzwords! Okay, before you panic, I’ll start off by saying that this one is mostly theoretical. But I wanted to talk about it because I think, while unprovable, it shows a lot of the nuances of certain scenes in Majora’s Mask, and that’s the whole point of Zelda Moments: To break down moments and discuss them. Last week I talked about Epona, and for possibly the first time, gave her some props on how she fulfills certain player fantasies…

“Psychopomp” is a really funny-sounding word that simply refers to a figure or entity who escorts deceased souls to the afterlife. Each psychopomp has different rules, behavior, treatment or transportation of souls, and indeed even send them to different afterlives. With legends about what happens when people die being so prominent in religions both old and new, it should be no surprise that the Zelda series takes a lot of influence from the many psychopomps featured in them. While of…

I’ve gone on the record as saying that Majora’s Mask is my favorite game of all-time. While that has changed recently (blame Bioshock Infinite), it remains one of my favorites and the single best game in the Zelda series by my vote. I could explain at great length the many reasons why that is, but what all of them boil down to is that the game is so wonderfully enigmatic, so incredibly intriguing in so many ways, that I can…

Sometimes in life a little comic relief can do you wonders. YouTube user tomtomfed has created a video that shows Link on his granddad’s death bed, holding his hand as his grandpa draws his last breaths. The situation itself is naturally very somber and dismal. Link’s granddad lies on the bed asking for the milk that has already been drunk. His last quarter of a heart goes out and he passes into the light beyond while tears run down Link’s…

Zelda and Peach each have different abilities, but there’s one thing that they both excel at: Getting kidnapped. With a résumé like that, who would win in a battle to the death? Thanks to the folks over at ScrewAttack, we can now find out! Wizard and Boomstick, the narrators of the video, assess the abilities of each princess and then pit them against each other to see who will be left standing. If you’re curious who will come out on…

Majora’s Mask is commonly called a dark Zelda game, and by many it’s considered to be the darkest of them all. I’ve made no secret of my love for the game, and I’ve also made no secret of the fact that I do not truly think the game is dark at all. In most discussions about Majora’s Mask’s darkness, I’ve vehemently defended the game. That is not to say that it being dark is actually a bad thing, because dark…
