The Legend of Zelda can be considered a modern fairy tale, recounting timeless stories of adventure by an archetypal hero. So, it’s not hard to believe that YouTube channel DailyYou recently wrote their own Zelda fairy tale for their Fairy Tale Friday comedy series. The video’s Zelda tale may not be completely accurate to the series’ canon, but it does offer plenty of quips and wisecracks that Zelda fans will appreciate…

For this week’s ZD Top 5, we asked staff members an open-ended question: Who are your Top 5 comic relief characters in the Zelda series? These characters could either be central to the main plot of the game (spoiler, Link himself was chosen in one case!) or have no apparent relevance to the main plot (for instance, Tingle). What resulted from the posed question was a collection of characters and moments that provided levity and occasional laugh-out-loud humor in otherwise serious quests to…

Have you ever asked yourself: “How would the Legend of Zelda series be different if our infallible, green-clad hero touted a three-foot long firearm?” It may just be a question that has lingered in our collective consciousness since 1986. Luckily for fans everywhere, animator Chance McMichael on YouTube recently showed us exactly what Link would do with a gun in this hilarious fan animation…

YouTube user Callegos-Y is no stranger to making animations online. In his latest video, he shows the trials and tribulations of trying to purchase a shield in the land of Hyrule. The video itself is done in Source Film Maker, a popular program in the online content creation community. Callegos-Y notes that…

The YouTube personalities over at The Warp Zone have once again created a hilarious parody of The Legend of Zelda in “Link on a Plane”. This time around the video focuses on a rather explosive situation that occurs when one of Link’s items falls out of his carry-on. A stereotypical cop-drama negotiator gets called in to handle it, and in the end there’s a cheeky plot twist that should not to be missed. Alexis S. AndersonAlexis S. Anderson is a…

Recently, Nintendo has been making significant strides toward making its game machines as “indie-friendly,” on a development and publishing level, as is possible.  The company certainly seems to be striking the proverbial chord with many independent and small video game creators, because a slew of titles born on Kickstarter and elsewhere are set to be released within the next year or so.  While many of these games are wholly new ideas with interesting gameplay mechanics, unsurprisingly, some of them are…

The YouTube group GoldenTotProductions has recently posted their latest video which takes a humorous look at the original Legend of Zelda. Overall the video is a guide introducing the game to anyone who might not have played it. However it is filled with plenty of animations, references, and other various continuity jokes that many a Zelda fan would instantly pick up. Be warned there is a lot of explicit language in this video. Jump inside to check it out for…

Comedy Central was present at the Nintendo World launch event for Skyward Sword. (Our video will be released soon–don’t worry!) Originally, I thought they were there to make fun of Zelda fans, but after seeing this giveaway, it’s obvious why they were present. The grand prize is quite extensive, and the daily prize is nothing to shake a turkey leg at. I had the opportunity to be interviewed for one of the TV spots that will air this weekend, So…

Over at GamingDead.com, some guys have posted a comedic rendition of Link’s adventures taking place in the real world. In this video, Link discovers a pair of boots and tests out their various powers, only to find out that they do not work as well in the real world. Some familiar sights and sounds were used in the video, including the various types of boots we’ve seen throughout the Zelda series. Let us know what you think of this video…
