The follks at IGN have started their very own 2011 people’s choice awards. Voting has just begun for all categories and Skyward Sword is in the running for several of those categories including Game of the year. So now all you have to do is go over to their site and vote on each category. Here is what they had to say.
Is Dead Space 2 a better action game than Portal 2? What’s the best shooter, Battlefield 3 or Modern Warfare 3? And what developer was best in 2011? Our overall awards will bring answers to all of these burning questions and many more. We’ll also give you a chance to weigh in with our annual People’s Choice awards, decided by you, on each award’s page. So make sure to make your voice heard by voting on your favorite before we announce all the winners on January 17th.

The folks over at X-Play have announced their nominees for their Best of 2011 Awards and Skyward Sword is shockingly absent from a number of their top categories. In particular, Skyward Sword was NOT nominated for the Best Gameplay Innovation, the Best Action/Adventure Game, or the Game of the Year. It’s really shocking that the game wouldn’t at least be nominated… considering it might very well win G4TV’s Videogame Deathmatch.
Skyward Sword did end up getting nominated for two awards, Best Soundtrack and Best Motion Control Game. Considering Skyward Sword is up against two dance games, a game with optional motion controls, and Sesame Street… I think it has the Motion Control award locked in. The Best Soundtrack is debatable but I think it has a strong chance at taking that award. On the handheld side of things, Ocarina of Time 3D was nominated for Best Remake/Retro Release. To see a full listing of the nominees, make the jump for the Press Release.

The folks over at LegendofZelda.com have finished handing out their annual community site awards and Zelda Dungeon has taken home a winner yet again! Last year we were awarded the strategy geek award for being the site with the best game guides. We were honored to win this since our game guides are what we put most our effort into on a day to day basis. This year however, the strategy geek award, along with a few others, were scratched from the list, and several new awards were presented.
With the new set of awards lined up, Zelda Dungeon has once again won one, this time being the Socialite, given to the website with the most appealing forum community. This award is a credit to the forum staff we now have at Zelda Dungeon, first and foremost to Mr. Mosley, the head forum administrator, as well as to the crew of moderators. There have been so many changes to the forum in the last 6 months including a much more clean, easy to navigate forum theme that matches the site. This has caused the forum to blossom in activity level in terms of number of registrations per day, the number of people that visit each day, as well as the number of posts that are made. Even with the growth that we’ve experienced, most forum-goers would agree that it has kept its laid back, family friendly appeal that keeps many users coming back on a day to day basis. If you aren’t a member yet, head on over and Register at the Forums.
Be sure to check out LegendofZelda.com for the rest of the awards.

Nintendo Power’s 2009 award winners have been revealed and Spirit Tracks was able to take home two prizes. Spirit Tracks won the award for DS Game of the Year and also won the award for Best Adventure Game. Additionally, Nintendo Power put together their Best of the Decade list.
1. Super Mario Galaxy
2. Resident Evil 4 (GCN)
3. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii)
4. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
5. Super Smash Bros Brawl
6. Metroid Prime
7. Elite Beat Agents
8. Metroid: Zero Mission
9. Mario Kart Wii
10. The World Ends With You
In terms of primarily single player Zelda titles, we’ve gotten 8 Zelda titles this decade. While I don’t think that the top two were Twilight Princess and the Wind Waker, it was nice to see two Zelda titles make the list.
Check out GoNintendo for some more awards. Read more…
