The Zelda series is loved by many for its adventurousness and compelling storylines. I doubt that anyone would argue with the statement that any one of Link’s numerous journeys can be called a quest. But what few know is that the concept of a quest is so prevalent in stories from all around the world that a set structure has been made which outlines the stages of the quest. The majority of the Zelda games fit perfectly into this pattern,…

This is a little bit of an older comic by Zac Gorman from Magical Game Time, but it’s probably something we’ve all asked ourselves when we play through a Zelda title. Why exactly does Link save everyone, besides the fact that he’s a fictional video game character? Does he do it for Zelda, his own will, or the betterment of the entire land? As players, we don’t really know because Link’s opinion is never shared. We’re left guessing. Hit the…

I don’t know about you lot, but if there’s one thing that the my inner Zelda fan has always wanted to do, it’s to go on a real life adventure. Instead of taking a regular stroll through my local park, I want to cast spells, hunt dragons, and find buried treasure. Is that too much to ask? Not anymore! A significant number of games offer day/night cycles, and people who play Nintendo games are probably very familiar with the concept. Usually, certain things will only be available at certain times of day, or a number of days have to pass between events in order to complete sidequests. Ocarina of Time certainly made it interesting; shops and houses in towns would be closed at night, the field would harbor new dangers, the overworld at large would offer new opportunities for…

Adventure of Link has often sat in the shadow of its predecessor and very few elements of the game have been brought back in future games, including the music. Many people find it understandable that some elements of Adventure of Link didn’t find their way into future Zelda games, especially the side-scrolling and RPG elements. Don’t misunderstand; Adventure of Link is definitely a good, albeit different, Zelda game. However, what about the musical elements of the game? Why have they…

Youtube user, housethegrate, has uploaded a music cover of himself playing the song Heroes Fall from Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. He uses three different types of guitars to help comprise the melody and his choice of those particular three help create a soothing and beautiful sound. To hear the melody for yourself, please take the jump.

Ever wonder what pressing 1 on the Wii Remote does in Skyward Sword? If you’ve been paying attention to videos and screenshots, you’d know that it brings up the Gear menu. GameTrailers recently showed us this menu, pictured to the left. You can click the image to view a larger version. At the top right corner is an icon indicating how to center the Wii Motion Plus sensors (point the Wii Remote directly at the screen and press down on…

Many fans are taking this special moment and celebrating in their own way. We have seen…

We just reported on the release of Four Swords Anniversary in Australia and Europe, but we now have confirmation that it is now available in North America as well. Some of the staff have already downloaded the game through the Nintendo E-Shop and will be sharing our opinions on the release soon. Head on past the break to hear what I think about the new release.

So much has changed since the beginning of Zelda. A little elf boy running around and trying to save a princess is but one of the many memories people have from the 80s. The Legend of Zelda, released in 1987 for the Nintendo Entertainment System, marked the start of one of the biggest adventure game series of all time. Everything about the original Legend of Zelda defines classic. The music, the sound effects, the story and the adventure all made…
