We’ve certainly seen a lot of things happening with Unreal Engine 4 in 2015. However, most of what we have seen happening involved taking already existing character models, uprezzing them when needed (maybe even some re-texturing), and then watching them frolic around in the sample worlds provided with the engine itself. While this has provided some interesting results and made us truly wonder about the possibilities, Vimeo user Michael Eurek takes this to a whole new level.

You won’t see Link or any other character running around here (though, a certain stone Zora makes an appearance), but instead you’ll see an actual part of the game world from Ocarina of Time masterfully recreated in Unreal Engine 4. This is impressive as it involves creating a world, not just slapping a premade character with some upgrades into a pre-existing world. He used some assets that came with the Unreal Engine demos along with some foliage from the Tropical Forest asset pack on the Unreal Marketplace.

However, most impressive in this is that he did a lot of custom work as well, creating his very own assets and textures to really make this place feel like a living, breathing, Zora’s Domain. He even brought the in-town shop to life featuring the available items all made from scratch. Overall this is probably the best re-imagining of anything Zelda to date in one of the video game world’s most impressive and powerful game engines.

Of note, this isn’t Michael’s first time recreating part of the world of Zelda in Unreal Engine 4. Back in early 2014 he recreated the Temple of Time, though he’s come a long way since those days. If you compare that video to this one, there is a world of difference in his skill-set. It may be another year before we see something again, but I sincerely hope he continues to grow and further expand on his recreation of famous worlds in Ocarina of Time.
