Once again, GamesBrained has uploaded another Zelda masterpiece. Kicking off his new series, Lost Gaming Treasures, GamesBrained introduces us to two spin-off games largely forgotten by the community, titled “BS The Legend of Zelda” and “BS The Legend of Zelda: Ancient Stone Tablets.” If you’re wondering what BS stands for, it’s Broadcast Satellite.

In the 90s, St. Giga, one of the first companies to host digital broadcasts, devised an add-on for the Japanese Famicom. The add-on allowed games to be broadcast to the home, and those games would be playable until the broadcast period was over. BS The Legend of Zelda was one of these games, and could be played in four segments of one hour. This game was much like the original Zelda game for the NES, but with a smaller overworld and better graphics.

Another Zelda game that was broadcast was a very different version of A Link to the Past, which featured a new storyline which took place a whole six years after the original ALttP. This game was titled “BS The Legend of Zelda: Ancient Stone Tablets”, and was split up into four weeks of broadcast. The hero is an entirely new Link, not the Hero of Legend in the original ALttP. There are new dungeon/landscape structures, and in the Master Quest version of the game, Malon is a playable character.

Have you heard of these games before? Would you consider these games to be canon? Do you think they could fit into the official Zelda timeline? Share your thoughts in the comments below. Make sure to check out GamesBrained and watch his other Zelda videos!
