The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D is coming out this year along with the New Nintendo 3DS system. Aonuma said that the game will take advantage of the new features of the NN3DS, but he didn’t explain how. So there’s only room left for speculation. The New Nintendo 3DS features a nub pad, serving as the c-stick of the console, it also has two additional triggers (“ZR” and “ZL”), a faster CPU, amiibo support, a new 3D screen with head tracking functionality and many other features. But how could this be implemented on Majora’s Mask 3D? And, more importantly, how can these enhance the experience of the game?

The analog nub could be used for free camera movement like in The Wind Waker or Twilight Princess. It could be really helpful for the exploration and it can make the gameplay smoother. This makes the game more enjoyable for those who played the original and more intituive for those who never played it, making Majora’s Mask 3D more accessible. The faster CPU can also make up for a better experience, because it could allow a frame rate of 60FPS with 3D activated.

The additional triggers can help with the items selection. In Ocarina of Time 3D you used items with the “X” and “Y” buttons, but you could select another 2 items with the touchscreen aswell thanks to the “I” and “II” buttons. In Majora’s Mask 3D this could be done in a more simplified way by simply asigning the “ZR” and “ZL” buttons for selecting items. Finally, the enhanced 3D effect could help for a more comfortable aiming. When the gyroscope is used in Ocarina of Time 3D, it’s uncomfortable for some people to move the whole body just for aiming. Thanks to the new 3D screens, that problem can be solved.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D is a game that have many fans excited. Nintendo finally is giving us the remake we wanted so much and obviously our expectations are high. Knowing that the game will use the New Nintendo 3DS features is also a reason for considering an upgrade. So the question remains: Which New Nintendo 3DS features you want to see implemented in Majora’s Mask 3D?
