Layout 18 – Isn’t It Beautiful? Posted on November 30, 2009 in Site News
Hey guys! I've been a little quiet the past few months, and part of the reason for that is because we're gearing up here at the site in preparation for the release of Spirit Tracks. That being said, here's a brand new layout to snazzy up the site.
We changed several things behind the scenes, but the most notable change right off the bat is the left navigation, which now changes depending on which section of the site you are currently viewing. We did this for a couple reasons, but one of the advantages is that the popup menu that was previously on the left won't get layered underneath the videos embedded on various pages. With the site moving more and more towards dynamic types of content, we need everything to be stable and not have stupid issues like that.
I'm really excited about some of the other features we've implemented with this layout as well, from various text colors and a wider content area for some pages to more dynamic maps and links, all geared to making the upcoming Spirit Tracks Walkthrough by far the coolest one we've done so far. The staff will be working together to pump it out as fast and as packed full as possible.
Finally, we've switched from CuteNews to WordPress for our updates. This allows us to have a commenting system for each individual post, without having to go to the forums. Since a majority of our visitors find us through search engines, it made sense to give them the ability to comment without having to sign up on our forums. Not that you SHOULDN'T sign up on our forums, mind you. ;)
And that's it! I hope you all enjoy this one, I spent many hours working on it. And remember, we're your source for Spirit Tracks content!

Artists Needed for Spirit Tracks! Posted on November 27, 2009 in Spirit Tracks
The lovely artwork you see to the left is actually fan artwork created by River Zora, a registered member at the ZeldaInformer message boards.
Back in early days of the Legend of Zelda series, official enemy artwork was widely available for the original Legend of Zelda and for the Adventure of Link. In fact, the artwork was right there inside of the very game manuals that the games shipped with. Additionally, several independent strategy guides, often times created their very own artwork for use in their publications. However, as the series progressed, official artwork and 3rd party artwork have become a much rarer occurrence.
With Phantom Hourglass, there were a few pieces of artwork for the bosses within the game, but barely any artwork for the actual enemies, and it seems this will continue with the Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks. This is where you can help!
If you are interested in creating fan artwork that will be featured right here at Zelda Dungeon, be used on pages at the website, and within the online Zelda community, then we can really use your help! All you have to do is check out our Spirit Tracks Enemies page, pick an enemy that you'd like to create artwork for... and go right ahead! You can post them at the Artwork Forum Thread, or e-mail me at mases26@gmail.com. ALL enemy fan artwork images will be posted here at Zelda Dungeon and proper credit will be given to all users who submit any material.
We already have a few images in the Artwork Forum Thread, but we have a long ways to go. You can still create artwork for an enemy, even if another user has already made one. I will still feature all artwork here at the site.
I look forward to all the unique and interesting artwork submissions that I will be seeing in the next few days!

Eiji Aonuma Talks Ocarina of Time and Zelda Wii Posted on November 26, 2009 in Zelda News
Eiji Aonuma recently spoke with Guardian.co.uk and actually apologized for something concerning the Water Temple of Ocarina of Time.
The Water Temple in the Ocarina of Time was notorious for being very tough to conquer. I am most sorry that it was not easy for you to put on and take off the heavy boots; that all the time you had to visit the inventory. I am very sorry about that. I should have made it much easier to switch to the heavy boots.
More importantly though, Aonuma talked a little bit about the next Zelda title for the Nintendo Wii.
With this attachment, your minute hand movements are more precisely reflected … You can feel it so naturally and so intuitively. It's not just an improvement over the movement of Link himself: the realisation of your more minute movements on the screen will expand the entire gameplay. I believe that we will be able to offer some great innovations in the new Legend of Zelda. Of course I have to refrain from giving any details, but we are contemplating altering the way the game progresses in comparison with all the past Legend of Zelda franchises. But I have to stop talking here.

Happy Thanksgiving! (and watch my videos later...) Posted on November 26, 2009 in Site News
Happy turkey day to all my fellow American peoples! Hope you all eat a ton and get sleepy!
Yes, I realize this isn't exactly a turkey, but, in the spirit of Zelda:
I suppose I should update on something if I make a post, huh? Here's another chapter of the Ocarina of Time Video Walkthrough. Not quite as yummy as turkey, but we all do what we can.

Spirit Tracks Difficulty? Posted on November 25, 2009 in Spirit Tracks
Eiji Aonuma talked with Kotaku about the difficulty of the upcoming Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks. The past few weeks we've had some conflicting reports. It seems in interviews that the masterminds behind the game are insisting that it is a bit more difficult, but several previews and reviews of the game have stated that it still says on the easier side of things. Here are a few tidbits from the interview.
Development team members, including [senior Nintendo developer] Mr. [Takashi] Tezuka and myself, actually got stuck in several places. So the dungeons and puzzles pose a different type of challenge than what we have utilized in previous games, and will certainly require longtime Zelda fans to approach each challenge differently.
The one consistent piece of feedback we received about the controls in Phantom Hourglass was that it was too challenging to execute the roll move. You had to draw little circles at the edge of the screen to make Link roll. This is actually something we felt similarly about during development, but ended up not having enough time left in the schedule to implement another solution. In Spirit Tracks, this move is done by tapping anywhere on the screen, so hopefully players get more use out of it.

Spirit Tracks Multiplayer Trailer, Aonuma Interview Posted on November 24, 2009 in Spirit Tracks
Today we have the release of an official trailer for the multiplayer of the Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks. If you've watched the gameplay that we've seen recently, as well as taken a look at many of the screenshots, than there isn't anything overly new. It looks like a ton of fun, but the lack of wifi worries me, as many Zelda fans don't have 2-3 friends that have a Nintendo DS that they can play with.
In addition to this trailer, the guys at Wired sat down with Eiji Aonuma to talk Spirit Tracks. Below is an interesting tidbit from the interview.
Aonuma: One of the elements of the control scheme we feel has improved is how the player executed the roll maneuver. We heard that in Phantom Hourglass this was too difficult to consistently perform, so we changed the input to a double tap on the touch screen. Beyond touch controls, we’ve added more use of the microphone, such as the Whirlwind and Spirit Flute items. We feel these microphone-based inputs are the best additions to the game’s control scheme.
You can view the full interview by clicking here. Spirit Tracks is set to ship on December 7th here in North America.
