What are your favorite genres of... stuff. Books, movies, television series, games, ect.
I'm finding two main things that immediately capture my attention that I go to again and again.
Fantasy. Fantasy stories have been favorites of mine since I was a kid - magical worlds, sientient non-human races, strange creatures... I suppose you have enough evidence of my enjoyment of the fantasy genre from my being a Zelda fan. I write original work/novels and prefer to write in this genre.
Space Westerns/Future-set Westerns. This little niche-genre hasn't always been a favorite of mine like Fantasy has. I saw and fell in love with the anime Trigun several years ago and since then, have grown a real thing for sci-fi/westerns. I've always liked sci-fi, but wasn't so much into westerns, but... combine the two and I seem to find myself in love. Most of what I've seen has been in anime form: Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, Gun x Sword (though Gun x Sword is really more in the Mecha genre... it still has Western trappings)... and, of course, the (American live-action series) Firefly (recently discovered, sadly came to the game late)... This "mixed genre" is surprisingly believable. Think about it - if we ever go out to space and explore other planets and begin to terraform and settle them, it is easy to imagine new worlds as having wild, rough beginnings similar to the fabled Wild West. Analog guns and cowboy hats just seem to "go with" rusted spaceships and lost technology for me now.
So, your pet genres? What gets your attention in media?

There's already a thread for favorite movie genres (http://zeldadungeon.net/forum/showthread.php?3356-Favorite-Genre), so you might want to remove the movie part from that post.

For books, it is generally an interest within fantasy, non-fiction, science fiction, and folklore. If it is a book of my choosing, it is almost always non-fiction. Concerning movies and television, it too is within the same realms. I typically stick to platform and role-playing games. If there are characteristics of both a medieval and fantasy influence in a book, movie, show, or game - then I'm almost always eager to take it for a spin. For instance, I love the movie Merlin and The Elder Scrolls series. These two are fair examples for combining two traits which I love and producing an incredible piece.
Though, my interest in science-fiction is limited. Mostly through the literary works of Isaac Asimov; most through television (i.e. Battlestar Galactica, Caprica, and Fringe). Generally if there is any form of science (pseudoscience doesn't count!), fantasy, or folklore - then the media has successfully caught my attention.

For me, my favoirate reads are those in the range of fiction and science fiction. I'm not to fond of fantasy or medieval works, I am not a big fan of non-ficton, and you will rarely see a movie-book in my hands. If it came from a movie, I'm not a fan of it.
When it comes to the realm of fiction (this may be science fiction or drama, I don't know), I enjoy works such as the book Flowers for Algernon. Great book. If you have yet to read it, then I recommend you read it promptly. When it comes to science-fiction, I'm more a fan of works from Jules Verne. His works are great, especially 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

That's an incredibly vague and encompassing question. I like it. :)
Video game genres:
1. RPG
This was my favorite as a child, because it was the only kind of game I did well at. I was a Final Fantasy fan before I was a Zelda fan. I still love it, but they don't make RPGs like they used to, so I've been forced to try other kinds of games.
2. Action-Adventure
This is the genre Zelda belongs to (though some argue it doesn't), and I've also come to like other games in this genre, such as Donkey Kong 64, Banjo-Kazooie, Metroid Prime, and Star Fox Adventures.
3. Platform
The style of game is a bit dull if you're looking to be captivated by something, but it will keep you entertained for 10 minutes. I used to be terrible at this sort of game, which is why I don't like the increasing use of platform elements like requirement of good timing and instant failure when hit by an enemy in Zelda games. Let's just say that I could only beat Super Mario World up to around Vanilla Dome or Twin Bridges when I was little, and then had to beg my mother for help (and she would beat the game). I beat Super Mario 64 over the course of 4 years... in-between games I cared about, I'd play for a few minutes to locate a Power Star I hadn't gotten yet. Eventually, during one play session, I reached Bowser and defeated him.
Book genres:
1. High Fantasy/Mythology
Well, I love this kind of story from just about every author it has come from. J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Lewis Carrol, etc. I also like the old classics such as the Illiad and the Odyssey, Arthurian legend, as well as the Aeneid. For me, it all seems like one genre.
2. Science Fiction
I'm such a geek, I know. :embarrassed: But I'm interested in science, and I'm interested in fiction, so it's only natural. I love Star Trek and Star Wars books, as well as Douglas Adams' book, the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
3. Alternative History
In addition to imagining what my own life might have been like if various things had gone differently... I also do this with world events. What if the United States had won the Vietnam War? What if Germany had won WWII? What if the South had won the Civil War? What if England had put down the insurrection and America had never been founded? What if the Cold War had actually erupted into open conflict? What if the Roman Empire had never fallen? Some people call that kind of thinking pointless, I say it's entertaining.
4. Manuals/Practical Guides/Research
I'm not sure if this counts, but I often enjoy reading manuals and practical guides that are designed to help with a particular task, or simply offer a lot of factual information about the topic in question. The "for Dummies" books are one of the better examples.
Movie genres:
1. Science Fiction
This one overlaps with the book genre of the same name, and I like it for the same reasons. Star Wars/Trek, The Twilight Zone, Short Circuit, A.I., D.A.R.Y.L, Tron, Back to the Future, and more.
2. Situation Comedy
Aside from science fiction, the only other thing I really like is Comedy, particularly cheesy sitcoms. Seinfeld, Friends, Everybody Loves Raymond, The Office, and more.
3. Cartoons/Anime
I like the childish western cartoons, and the more sophisticated Japanese anime. There's just something about the exaggerated expressions, the slapstick action, and the unrealistic physics that remains amusing to me.
Music genres:
1. Rock
This is the genre I've always liked. My favorite bands consist of just about anything that was considered popular music between 1975-1990. Queen, Styx, Duran Duran, the Beatles, Billy Joel, and Foreigner are among my favorite bands.
2. Chiptunes
I have an unhealthy obsession with Game Boy music (and a few other consoles), I just love it. I particularly like the music from Final Fantasy Legend 2, and the Oracle games. The music from Super Mario Land and the original Pokemon sounds pretty good to me, though.
3. Synthpop
That doesn't quite encompass everything I like aside from Rock, but it does encompass a couple of my favorite bands. Assemblage 23, Covenent, The Cruxshadows, Wolfsheim, and others.

Hmm...Interesting,
For Games and Books:
1. Fantasy
A world made up by one's thought or one's desire to have something is a real teaser to me. I would love to see someone's thoughts, and usually a person's thoughts are relayed into Imagination and leads to Fantasy. I like fantasy because things that aren't real, or things that we wish we could have appear here. You watch on and listen to the story behind it and you enjoy it along the way, That's because your imagination is responding to someone's imagination thereby creating a feeling of delight and bliss.
2. Comedy
I like to laugh, a LOT. A book or a game that makes me laugh or makes me LOL are not bad. It's fun to laugh cause it relieves some stress and tension.
3. Adventure (This includes RPGs of games and a First-Person-View in a book)
Adventure is something that we all experience everyday. Things that are new makes us either want to explore it or to avoid it. An adventure is where you explore things and learn those things for yourself. I like adventure cause it quenches my curiosity. I want to know things and an adventure is a perfect way to do it.
For Music
1. Rock
I Love Rock. It's beat is catchy and it's fun to go along the beat, I tend to make up a dance as i go along for the heck of it.
2. Jazz
Jazz is something that relaxes me on lazy afternoons. Few people appreciate a good beat of Jazz, they don't know what they're missing.
For Movies and TV shows
1. Anime or something near Anime
I love anime. It just so nice to watch some anime. Some animes have deep stories and some of them are just for kicks.
2. Comedy
Same reason as from Games and Books
