The Legend of Zelda is a very difficult series to classify. You have a large world to explore, a "money sistem" to buy itens in shops, and a world and it's inhabitants to discover, much like an RPG. On the other hand, it's puzzles, combat caracteristics and gameplay are very action oriented. The 3D portions of the whole even have some platforming!
Some people call Zelda an "action/adventure with RPG elements" game! :hmm:

We can't clearly classify Zelda in a proper genre. This fact leads to only one conclusion: Zelda has (kind of) created a genre of it's own.

Now, I love the Legend of Zelda!
It's my very favorite franchise since I've played "A Link to the Past" in my counsin's SNES (the 2º place belongs to Shin Megami Tensei, as you can see in my avatar!). And the sad fact is that there are almost NO games that look, even a little bit, like it! The only one I can remember is Okami for PS2 (which is an awesome game!).

Of course, I don't want any cheap copies. All I want is more games that follow this "genre" that The Legend of Zelda has created.

So what you guys think about it?

I agree. While I really don't have the time to play many games, I just don't care for strict RPG games at all.

Beyond Good and Evil, for example and Okami, are pretty much Zelda-ish, specially Okami

Yeah Okami is the only real thing I could think of being close to Zelda. Then again thats why its such a popular game its unique in many great ways like the dungeons and equipment.

Have you played beyond Good and Evil?
It has some Zelda-ish feeling to it as well

I think Zelda is called an Action - Adventure RPG. A rare kind of videogames.
There aren't many games like this I think. Okami is quite a good call.

Another title that came to mind: Dark Cloud. It was on the PS2 long ago.
Dark Cronicles is suppoed to be part 2 somehow, but it's a bit different. Still quite good though.
If anybody knows more titles, please post them!

God of War(lolwutXD), Yes, I was trolling, but I've heard people comparing GoW to Zelda

I'm not sure what the genre is, but I think Star Fox Adventures (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Fox_Adventures) feels a lot like a Zelda game for some reason. Sure, it has a few more vehicle sequences than you see in Zelda, but the overall gameplay, puzzles, and characters have a very Zelda-esque feel for some reason.

It was one of the last games Rare made for Nintendo. Their games were really good, too.

There are a couple of other Rare games that had a lesser Zelda feel, but that I really liked. Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie, and Donkey Kong 64. Rare was pretty good back then... sigh.

@CZG
I've also heard a lot that Dark Cloud (especialy the 2º one) looks like Zelda. Recently, people are calling the new Darksiders a mix between GoW and Zelda! The game is receiving "good" ratings (about 8 up to 10). :hmm:

@Skull_Kid
o.O WTF?!
I'm remenbering a recent discussion, in another site. We were discussing that Dante's Inferno is just TOO MUCH identical to GoW, but then somebody told that calling DI a copy was ridiculous, since GoW was a COPY OF ONIMUSHA!!!

I was like... OMGWTF?! o.O

The storyline of Zelda actually comes from the story of King Arthur. What with pulling the sword out of the stone and saving the land. The time is even based like zelda too

To be fair, I would love it they could somehow incorporate a Zelda game into the style of GoW and DI.
With real graphic violence, and enemies that are 20 foot tall... while still keeping everything that makes Zelda itself there.

Problem is... that sort of game would only appeal to a more mature audience to what the franchise usually aims at... the childreeeen.

Zelda's Target Audience has lots of crazy variation. We have OoT, wich doesn't look like a child's game, but also not like an adult game. Then we have WW, that's completely childish. And finally, TP with a much more mature feeling to it. WTF?! o.O
(still, all the games are awesome!)

Oh yeah, all Zelda games are awesome... just would be epic if a one off game was made a 15 due to violence and gore or something or something like that, I dunno maybe it's just my psychotic side coming through.

Anyway, all of us want more Zelda genre games to be produced!
I don't understand why there are so few of them, since Zelda has always been an extremely well succeded franchise, I mean, if people followed succeful games like Street Fighter or Warcraft, in the past, why almost nobody followed Zelda's Genre?

Those games are incredibly difficult to make.

Creating a bunch of characters and a few cool weapons, a few locations and plot events is not that hard, but it's so hard to make a balanced story out of it. You have come up with something new again, while keeping a classic feeling to it. It's hard to be creative. Lots of things are already done you know.
If I would be making some sort of Street Fighter, all you'd have to do is draw some cool fights with unrelated characters.

That's why I like Spirit Tracks and the trains and such. It's new to me. And it's fairly Zelda-like.
Would ALttP be just as popular is Zelda 2 was just another top-view LoZ game? I doubt that. Somehow...

Starfox Adventures is a ton like a Zelda game, puzzles, getting new and upgraded item to get to the next area, an annoying sidekick and a damsel in destress. Also unlike any other StarFox game you use a staff not a gun

One of the reasons for me to have LoZ as my favorite video-game series is that it's completely different from any other game.
It may look the same, similar to an adventure game, perhaps, but no. Try it and you'll find out that the gameplay is truly unique, and you can even create another game called "The Legend of Relda", and create a character named Pink and dress him up with purple clothes.
Its gameplay will still differ from the LoZ one.
And I think it's a shame that most of today's games are only about explosions and fun stuff to do. That's perhaps the biggest reason I almost hate Playstation games :0
It's sad but I must admit I'm also getting sick and tired of the Mario series...

Yeah, the gaming market variety nowadays is killing me.
