What do you think the best level is to get to before going through the first temple. i say at least 3 and at the most 5

3 or 5 is enough before you go to the first temple. But I don't really know.

You mean in AoL?

I'd go for 4. But if you have the patience, go all the way to 8 so you can breeze through the game. There's no level higher than 8.

On the other hand, you DO get free level-ups after beating a dungeon, so it's kind of a waste to grind past 4-5.

I usually go to the first palace in AOL when I'm at level 4 in everything (Attack, Magic, Life). Sure, it's long, but once it's done, you can almost go trough the rest of the game without caring about it, since you'll gain a free level after each boss. And also, it makes the beggining a lot easier and the first palace is not as tough as it seems, for me at least.

yeah the first dungeon of AOL isnt that hard. Its just that if you havent beaten the game before like myself and you and others it is hard to get past the ironknuckles

I went in at Level 4 in Life, Magic and Power. I would have went to 5, but I didn't have that much patience.

I think Lvl 1-1-1 should do.
You'll problably have 1-1-2 though.

The first thing you want to do is to visit the town to the east, and get the Shield Magic. You problably have it already, but it's a very usefull spell, especially at the beginning of the game. For now, you don't need to preserve magic to cast other spells, you can just use it for armor all the time.

You should problably grab the 50 experience points bag in the one tile forest, northeast from the North Palace, where you start. Just some free experience. Just spend it on life, and you'll gain one extra level on Life. Not a bad freeby.

Notice that you can grab another Heart Container from the path that leads south, after going through the small cave to the east. I somehow always grab this one after the Palace, but you don't need anything to get it, so I suggest starters go fetch it right away.

I think you should be ready by now.
If you are not very confident, level up your sword attack by fighting Bit and Bot for a bit. The Sword / Attack is the most helpful one you can upgrade. You are very likely to get the first hit on every battle in the game. Upgrade your Attack, and they don't stand a chance. Fights are usually difficult and dangerous when it's the enemies time to move and attack.

If you have doubts about the rest of the game, because the dungeon seems quite hard. Just grab the Candle, optionally kill the Horsehead boss if you like to do so. But don't place the gem at the end of the palace, yet. Save it for later. When you finish the Parappa Palace, or any palace for that matter, you get experience points as much as you need to level up your lowest score. Come back later to claim 1000 or 2000 points instead of getting 300 points now. It'll help though the second part of the game, I'm sure.
