View Full Version : OoT Best Game ever?

I have seen many people rate this game the best even though i havent played that many games i can say that it is up there but certanly not best. Final Fantasy ( the original ) was one of the best ever and it never makes the list. Also hint my name i love mike tysons punhout wich is easily the best boxing game and it never gets recognition. Every body say what you think is the best and back it up. It serves no purpose to say OOT OOT OOT OMG ITS THE BEST EVER and then stop typing.

This doesnt belong in the Zelda thread if you dont want people saying OoT is the best or if you want people to say what do you think is the best game. Im sure there is already a topic just like this in the general gaming forum, go there.

no, OOT is good and has the best dungeon/area ever (spirit temple/gerudo valley) but the difficulty is too low and I have to take off marks for the water temple, that one was incredibly boring and went on forever. The boss while innovative was bland. The Ganon fight at the end was also too easy, he moves like a zombie. I love the music though and this game is one of my favs but not the best one in my opinion, there is still plenty of room for improvement in it.

My Fav. is A Link to The Past. It gets everything right and I love the ability to alter the difficulty to suit the player. The Ganon fight was also legendary.

How do you alternate difficulty

For once I agree with Punchout.

Yeah, how can you alternate the difficulty of the game? Oh wait, I know the answer, you can't. It's impossible to alter the difficulty of the game unless you like purposely don't collect hearts or something like that. Which you can do in any game.

Nice way to put it but yea. Anway i got tired of both LttP and OoT and Im gonna try phantom hourglass. Ive heard it has quickly become one of the better zeldas.

You say that because you're still fapping about how awesome and hawt TP was, huh?

What?

The only explanation I can put on altering difficulty is that as a player, you have certain options to make the game harder for yourself. (Don't upgrade the sword, don't upgrade your tunic, don't get any heart pieces, the 3 heart challenge, don't use any bottles, etc...) Although I'm not sure if that's what you meant.

I don't think its fair to almost ever consider a game to be the best above all else. Instead I like to bunch games in tiers, and Ocarina of Time is in the top tier. I would say that it is clearly one of the best games ever made for the Nintendo 64.

I'm just not about to start comparing it to Link to the Past, Super Mario 3, Grand Theft Auto 4, Half-Life 2, Chrono Trigger, etc... Games that are completely different genres and in some cases came out 10 years before hand or 10 years later. It's only fair to compare it to the games of its time and specifically of its console and genre. In that sense, I think of its genre, it is my favorite and thus (I suppose) the best game for the N64. Although I'm sure there would be plenty that would argue Super Mario 64, Conker, Goldeneye, Banjo-Kazooie, etc... Heck many fans here have even said that they prefer Majora's Mask in other threads.

Chrono

In that case you can alter the difficulty in any Zelda game. Maybe that is what he meant though.

don't upgrade the sword or get any of the mails.

hunh? I love TP but to be honest OOT is a better game.

Princeofdarkness, you could do that with pretty much any Zelda game...*sighs*

Ocarina of Time was as close to perfect as any game I've played. There isn't much that could have been added to the game to make it better at that time. It still is better than most games made today.

Majora's Mask was really good too. I hated it when I first played it cause at the first, you really dont know what to do, or at least I didn't at the time. But, once you get into the game, Majora's Mask is up there with Ocarina, just because of its depth. It's a weird game too. The parallel world is fun to explore.

I do believe, however, that Twilight Princess had the ability to be better than Ocarina. Two big things that threw me off about Twilight was the map, and the cutscenes. There was too much movie stuff involved with twilight i thought. And the map is hard to remember. In Ocarina, the entire map layout was simple, and I half the time knew where I was going when I went there. In Twilight, I just find myself teleporting most of the time to wherever I wanna go.

While OoT is not my favorite game ever, or even my favorite on the N64, is my favorite Zelda game.
I have to agree with what dark_link01 said about it.

How do you think Ocarina of Time is overated? You were three years old when it was released...Maybe at that point in time, but dude its been 10 years.

MrMosley
06-09-2008, 10:36 PM
Yeah, I believe you had to be born at least a couple of years within the release of Ocarina to really appreciate it as much as it should be. Its too bad that most young gamers today are stuck with games like Halo, which they think is the greatest game ever, because they didn't have the privelage to play a truly great game like Ocarina. They just don't make em' the way they used to....

A lot of people that grew up with the Nes say Halo is the best thing ever as well. I don't see it, myself.
But I agree about the younger people. They just turn away from games like Zelda, just because it's Nintendo, and too 'kiddy'.

Personally I think OoT is overrated as well, but hear me out before you start attacking me...

I think that people think OoT was so awesome just because it was 3D, not for the playing value. If you made LoZ, AoL, and ALttP in 3D I can almost guarantee people would think they're better. They already have a better storyline and most Zelda fans who have played all (or nearly all) of the Zelda games like them better than OoT. Turn a classic into 3D, and people would go crazy.

My point is, I don't think a lot of people recognize the game as the "best", but a lot of them do recognize the 3D and visual effects it has over the classics.

I personally agree with Masses first comment. That the games must be grouped together in the appropriate groups.

For N64 my order of best games are.

OOT
MM
Conkers
banjo twooie
Golden eye
perfect dark

I must say though, as some people found OOT easy when they played it, I found it very difficult and challenging. The reason for that is becuase I was 8 when I started playing the game. It took months to beat and thats why I love Zelda so much. I thought it was a great game and enjoyed the countless hours spent on attempting to beat it.

OoT is my second favorite Zelda game next to Twilight Princess, sometimes they flip flop too. It was a very creative story line, if only the graphics were upped more.

OoT is the best ZELDA game ever. It isn't the best game in the world though. But that is my opinion. I like a lot of game like Madden08 and NBAstreetV3. And I haven't played TP yet (my mom says it is to expensive and I have to wait untill the prices drop). But overall it is a good game.

OoT IS THE BEST ****ING GAME EVR. I AM DEAD SERIOUS. it's was a revolution when it came out for the N64. I've heard stories on how fanboys, like myself will be playing it after about 10 years and still say it is the BOMB:eek:

I still play OoT, still like it, but i think that majora's mask is way much better... Harder dungeons, better storyline, lots of sidequests, the whole mask/change/new powers stuff...~
For some reason i think the masks in MM were the inspiration for the rings in the Oracle series

I firmly believe it's the best game ever created. The sum of its parts--the music, the unique graphical style, the simple but well-crafted story--is of such high quality that it's the videogame equivalent to "Citizen Kane."

Part of the virtue of this game is that it fosters a spirit of adventure, of childlike curiosity and exploration, but also plunges the gamer into an environment of dark desperation later on. This is pivotal. Its characters grow up with the gamer, and it reached me, at least, on a personal level as a result. Not only does it bask in playful minigames, but explores genocide and dictatorship.

The point is, much like the movie Star Wars, it has something for everyone, and its deceptively simple plot masks an accessible and powerful story and game. It's as close to perfect as a game will ever get.

My thoughts exactly. Ever since I first played it, that bliss-like feel of running around Hyrule field for hours, exploring every crevice and alcove in Hyrule.

But it also touched on the darker aspects. It had, like mentioned, the theme of dictatorship and genocide, the woes of destruction and the like.

But what really captivated me was the sense of "shock", that engrossed me during my first play-though. Awaking to a world where nothing is as it seems.
Although it has an cunningly simplistic storyline that could be summed up in a few paragraphs, Ocarina of Time exploits every aspect of a world in shambles. From the bliss of childhood, and finding out your destiny, to fighting for the sake of a kingdom. I would say it is the best video game I have ever played. In fact, to me it doesn't even register as a game, but more of the cliche, "legend".

Now, if you are comparing Oot to all of the games in the world, then it is certainly not the best.

When you compare it to other games people will choose based on how hard the game was. I personally hated Oot for it's constant challenge. Though asking if it is the best will only get you answers based on opinions.

So if you ask me, Oot is not the best game ever.

Is it one of the few games that is highly praised a decade after it's release? Yes, so it is ONE of the best games in history.

I've played Master Quest, and it was a bit harder in certain parts, like the Fire and Spirit Temples. However, overall I didn't notice that much of a difference other than increased enemies in certain areas, or extra challenges in certain temples.
Overall, Master Quest was a good challenge, but I don't think that it was that much better than the original Ocarina of Time. Personally, I prefer the original.

There's also a thread about this here. (http://www.zeldadungeon.net/forum/showthread.php?t=1398)

I think Ocarina of Time has so many elements that are enough to call it the best game, but since everyone has their own likes and dislikes, it is quite difficult for me to dub this the official, greatest game yet.

I personally love ALttP and WW better than OoT, but this is only because of the elements in the games that I prefer over OoT. There can be many disputes through this topic, since it is generally an opinion.

Some people/lots of people say that OoT is the best game ever. But thats an opinion. They probabaly never played any SNEs/NES games. In my mind OoT is the best game on the N64 platform. Not in gaming history.

AlttP is actually my favorite Zelda but I would put OoT second with TWW third ^^

It really is such a classic game... mainly I think because of it being 3D

I remember playing it for hours and hours. I guess AlttP has a special memory for me.. and I find it has more reply value to. But thats just me ^^

Idk if I've already posted in this thread or not. I can't remember. However, I have a feeling I did, and that at I said it was the best game ever. So, I thought that I would change that and let everyone know I think differently now.

I still think OoT is the best zelda game ever, but not the best game ever. I believe the best game ever, to me, right now, would be Mass Effect, and Mass Effect 2. :3

Absolutely epic, imo. So go check it out people! That is, if you haven't already.
Idk about Mass Effect 3 though, because it hasn't come out yet. XD lol.

Haha, me either, so I'm posting right now myself. :P

I hear a lot that Ocarina of Time is the best game, and so many seem to consider it so. Then there are the people who hate it because of all the praise and think it's long since been surpassed (or never was as great as it's predecessors).

My opinion is that, outside of personal opinion (in which of course some people are going to consider it their favorite), the primary reason OoT is often considered the best is likely because it was the first 3D Zelda and it revolutionized the series. It basically founded the Zelda game as we know it. Most games since follow it's core control scheme, so it's the father of modern Zelda in a way.

It was also a really balanced game, with broad appeal themes and plot. Difficulty was decent, etc. etc.. So this is another reason for that. A lot of other games in the series are a lot more unique in feel, not as broad, and are either way harder or way easier than OoT.

I don't consider OoT the best game (or rather, my favorite), but I do place it as my third favorite game in the series. I think very highly of it, I just like some other games better. :)

I honestly don't think that OoT is the best game ever, more like the 2nd Zelda, and the 5th or 6th video game. MM is the best Zelda, and best video game in my opinion. Also, SSBB, Pikmin, SMG, those are like 2nd 3rd and 4th. Then OoT.
