This thread is about the four Light Spirits and what you thought of them.

I personally thought they were an interesting addition. In a lot of ways they replaced the Great Fairies (who, while they still were in the game, were moved into the Cave of Ordeals and given a different role). Their place is a bit odd, as they have been implied to serve the goddesses.

They first appeared in Twilight Princess, but I've always thought that they were just added in for the game; timeline-wise they would have had to have been there much longer, possibly even prior to Ocarina of Time.

Anyway... I liked them. The music that played when you spoke to them as cool (I actually really like it, it's a favorite song of mine) and they were neat looking as well. I liked how in their designs, they all had that same glowing ball, but all either stood on it or held it in a different way.

Somehow, I was a little disappointed with the Light Spirits, though... they appeared just once, really, and you never saw them again until the end of the game. Additionally, while they replaced the Great Fairies (more or less) they didn't do any of the same things. They offered no upgrades. :(

Opinions?

I personally loved the addition of the four light spirits. The design is just, remarkable. I do hope that if they are featured in future Zelda games that they give you upgrades like the fairies did.

My opinion is that YOU ARE WRONG.

They not only upgraded you to the more people-sociable human form, but they also gave you those awesome HERO'S CLOTHES!

Not only that, they gave you (or rather, Zelda) the Light Arrows!

The light spirits were interesting, and I have mixed opinions on them.

Positives: As mentioned before, the designs. I thought they were brilliantly done. I loved that each one was representative of the area it occupied. The gold coloring along with the designs draw on their bodies made contrast the the twilight beings, but made them similar as well. It effectively created the mirror image/concept that they were striving for with the light vs dark/twilight concept. The glowing ball that emitted light throughout the area was rather cool as well.

Negatives: I understood their purpose, but they really did not effect the plot of the story in my opinion. I know they were what held the light for their area and they were involved in the ending of the game with ganon, but in terms of plot advancement I felt they played no sigificant role, and that really subtracted their value to me.
Also, I will agree with Axle. After you 'released' them they were of no real use to you. They did not provide upgrades or any real supplement to your gameplay. I was actually partically annoyed that I had to complete the cave of ordeals to have fairies (or healing magic) in the ponds. I thought he light spirits could have at least healed you. I know standing in the water of the ponds did perform this, but it did not feel as though the light spirits had much to do with it, as they were not present.
Further, their only real role was in the first third of the game. I actually forgot about them until their appearance at the end during the cut scene.

Overal, I did not see the use for them, though their designs were really well done and they created greater depth to the light vs twilight concept of the game.

The Light spirits were a great addition, and they were a nice sight to see from the regular old Fairy in the fountain gig.

They showed little plot though, all they did was tell them about what should Link do, told him about the Twili and then soon they were forgotten till Zelda summons them and used their power to make light arrows. They may have given that, but I preferred that they did something while Link was at the temple or while battling Ganondorf. And they did not give anything to Link other than advice, the threads and the healing waters near their locations. And some fairies released by the Queen of fairies.

Maybe they should have appeared near Link when he confronted him for the first time and they were able to hold him back for awhile while link attacks. That would have been epic to see.

Haha, true. Well I meant in a more traditional gameplay sense. The clothes didn't really do anything, all they did was advance the plot. As for the Light Arrows, it was much the same, just something you used (actually, something Zelda used; you never got to touch them) to allow you to defeat Ganondorf in that one battle.

And agreed, Din and K4. I didn't think of it much, but you two are right: The Light Spirits had little to no plot importance. :(

They were awesome and the music was stunning and they told Link about the dark world and showed him the next direction to go but that's it.

They never appeared again which I disliked. And the only thing they added was the water would heal your wounds and fill your life energy. I hoped they would have done more things.

Yeah, I loved the light spirits, too. There was awesome music while they talked to you, I liked how they took the form of different animals, and they really helped you with the game. Imagine trying to beat TP without the light spirits. And midna wouldn't tell you the things that they told you. And midna wouldn't give you the heros clothes. Pretty sad game now, huh?

Also, the great fairies from OoT were just freaks!(especially the fairy of power) I liked how the light spirits didn't need to wear clothing, and didn't look so.....wellll.....interesting.

The light spirits were good aditions because (like others had said)
You would be completely and utterly lost without them, plus the music that was played when they were talking to you was absolutley amazing.

They reaplaced the fairies in Oot and Mm and I have to admit I really didn't like the design of the fairies in them, they kinda creeped me out and the laughing aswell ,whereas the design in TP was very clevely done the way they took the shape of animals, also I liked the ball of light they had with them as we returned the light to them (via the tears of light) changing how they appered.
The thing that dissapointed me was that they appered very little in the actual game and I thought this was dissapointing as the storyline could of been made better with this added...

Anything that isn't dressed solely in vines and doesn't laugh like a banshee is cool with me.

I do not think they were underused. They do not need to give you any upgrades, nor do they need to show up multiple tmes and become an annoyance like how Kaepora Gaebora did. They were great characters and personaly, I do think they were important to the plot. I was a little disapointed when I found out that ST had Tears of Light, but not Light Spirits.

The only part about them that throws me off is, recently I was playing TP over again and I already understood that Eldin, Lanayru and Faron where made to represent Din, Nayru, and Farore...and then there is Ordana...I don't understand where Ordana came from. I know it's the Ordon Province in TP but, unless I'm just faced with ignorace, I have never heard of this character before. I also noticed that Ordana was the only spirit you didn't have to gather light for. This makes me think that there is another part of Hyrule being added on. *Cringe*

But, other then that little bit of irritating confusion, I don't mind them. Yes, I loved the music that accompanied their presence. Yes, I thought the designs where wonderful. However...disturbing the great fairies looked in Oot and MM, I'm still a fairy girl. I get happy whenever I find a fairy fountain and forever will, no matter what brave apparel the ladies within are donning on.

The Light Spirits were a pretty interesting addition to the game, but they should have appeared more throughout the game. They really only served one purpose and only appeared once and then were gone until the end(as Axle said). It would have been nice if they would have served a bigger role. They obviously served a big role, of course, but something a little more would have been nice, too.

@Flatxsharp Many people beleive Nintendo is trying to confuse the audiance. They think they purposly took out the fourth triangle on the Hylian Sheild, but they put a fourth Light Spirit and purposly named them after the goddesses. They HAD TO HAVE known people will think this. Just because I am saying thier might be a fourth god that gaurds everything that is not in Hyrule, does not mean their is a fourth triforce and there is always a Tetraforce. Especialy since Ordon is apaart of Hyrule. Link did not need to collect tears in Ordon because, remember when three shadow beasts came down into Ordon Falls (or w/e it is called) and attacked Link? If link was not there until about an hour later, then he would need to get the tears because the Shadow Beasts are what attacked the Light Spirits.

Yes, I realize that Ordon would have eventually succumbed to Twilight as well should Link have not been there, but that wasn't really my point. I found it strange that Ordon had never been mentioned before, and then Nintendo decided to just give it a spirit that affiliates with the golden godesses.

I agree with many people when stating I think Nintento is messing with us just because they can. ^^ I like it. It reminds me that acumen is still wandering.
