Classic Zelda Commercial

For those of you old enough to remember all the way back to the 1980's, you'll surely know that video game commercials were certainly not what they are today. Much of this has to do with the drastically different target audience and social changes that the video game industry has gone through over the years.

During this time period, there numerous commercials for Nintendo titles, including our beloved, Legend of Zelda (http://www.zeldadungeon.net/Zelda01-the-legend-of-zelda.php). Embedded below is one of the many classic Zelda commercials.

Oh My God. If they made this an advert today. This would make NO sales. Lol, who was this aimed at? People who hadn't seen the advert? Or failed white rappers? Lol.

Honestly one of the funniest videos I have ever seen.

That is classic 80's commercial material!
Truly a horrible commercial by todays standards, but back then, it would have been...meh.

Watching those kids rap was hilarious, I couldn't help but giggle throughout the entire thing!

Bwahahahaha. I remember this commercial from a while ago, when I found it on the internet. And I just love how they have this nerdy kid hanging out with this guy that looks like he's probably one of the "higher class" kids at school. I guess that's their way to target a wide audience. I still like the AoL commercial better, though.

Oh...my...god... that rap was really wierd!! Seriously it's just so wierd that they rap about that in the flippin 80's but I give it half a thumb up! But then again the commercials for games now are even wierder...:S

I've looked up Zelda commercials online before. A few small fan sites have them listed. They're easy to scrounge up on YouTube.

Have you ever seen the one where this crazy guy is just running around screaming "Zelda!!!!" ? That one is even weirder.

My very favorite Zelda commercials, by far are this one really creepy one for Majora's Mask that's done like the world's going to end in a modern city. There were people looking up at the moon (our moon) saying "The moon's gonna fall." Then there were scenes of someone playing MM and people saying "We're counting on you, kid, don't let us down." --- I don't think the commercial lasted long because it was very, very creepy. I saw it on YouTube and loved it.

and...

One for Wind Waker. It featured a girl trapped in a tower with rain and ocean all around and she was telling the legend of a little boy who braved great dangers all to save.... "me." (I suppose whether the girl is supposed to be Zelda or Aryll is left up to interpretation).


Oh, and back in the 1980s, the graphics on the original Legend of Zelda *were* nice graphics. I remember the time period. I was there. I was a little kid, but I was there. Also, compared to the Atari2600 I had before I got an NES for my one of my birthdays? Yes, LoZ kicked graphics butt back then. *Laughs.*

I always love these commercials, especially the older ones, because they hardly make sense and I can't contain myself, they're so stupid that I have to laugh at them. I hope we upload all the really lame ones soon, although, I could look 'em up anytime, I suppose, well that is if I wasn't lazy :P

Now I am not from that time but I liked perhaps more than todays video game commercials. It did make me want to play the game again. If I were to rate I would give a 3 out of 5 for the following reasons.
One the game play.
Two the line what your saying you never played it ( or some thing like that )
Three last but not least the real use of the system and the controller played by the actual people doing the commercial.

Oh dear. I remember that ad first hand, which is dating myself. I know I thought it was lame then, and I think it's lame now! The shots of the gameplay excited me, I do know that, but I remember making a LOT of fun about the attempted rap in the schoolyard...

And while we're on the subject of ads, I rememebr the guy running around yelling "Zelda!" that Shadsie mentioned. I actually remember it best out of the two ads. WW's ad was probably the best one though of the lot.

I remember this commercial! I also remember the Wind Waker and Fourswords Adventure one. I would get excited when I saw a Zelda commercial. As well as the Minish Cap one, well I had to laugh at "Woah! Look at those graphics!". Really? :D

I'm surprised that this was one of the first commercials for Zelda! Usually the commercials are all action-packed like "One hero will rise" instead of "Zelda is cool, Zelda is rad, Ganondorf is pretty bad!" :lol:

I wonder if anyone decided to buy the game just because this ad? :P

My fav early NES ads were of Metroid where the kid got vaporized at the end, and the ad for Ironsword: Wizards and Warriors 2.
