What was the Zelda game that got you Interested in the series? Not your first but the one that made you a big fan. While I played Phantom Hourglass and the original Legend of Zelda first, Ocarina of Time got me hooked. I had enough experience by then that I didn't get as frustrated as I used to, and had much more fun because of that. Before three months went by, I had collected almost every game in the series.

Twilight Princess.

I'd grown up playing the original Legend of Zelda and Adventure of Link. I even played A Link to the Past a few times when my guy got it second hand for his old SNES...

But it was a birthday gift of a GameCube and TP that got me really hooked. I borrowed other games from a friend after that. TP is what got me online disscussing Zelda and what got me creating fan fiction and fan art. It's definitely the one that pulled me in and got me full-tilt obessed.

Hmm...Well the one that one that pulled me into the Zelda obsession probably would have been MM. I had played a bit of LoZ and ALttP before, but it wasn't until after I played MM that I became I full-fledged fan. :D

Although it was different from the typical Zelda game with the environment and the bad guy being totally different, MM gave me a taste of what the other Zelda games were like. It made me want to find other Zelda games to play, although I didn't get to really do that until TP came out years later.

But yes, MM was the one that pulled me into the Zelda fandom. :)

I'm gonna have to say OoT or WW, but probably OoT. I was old enough when I started playing that game to understand what my interests were and why those tihngs were interesting to me.

Before that I was playing Zelda games just because my friends were. But since OoT I've been playing Zelda games because I enjoy doing this. OoT is the game that pulled me in.

The one that got me hooked was actually the first one I played, and was coincidently also the first game. I played the original LoZ first hand when there was no other games to be had. So, even though I was hooked, I had to wait patiently for each subsequent release.

Ahh, to become a fan now and have so many choices of what to begin with... :)

Well while my first zelda was ww (it's great in my opinion by the way) I wasn't a truly big fan until I played oot in 2007 on my wii's virtual console.

Long story short the zelda that hooked(shot) me inm was oot. The best Zelda game as of yet also hooked me into Zelda.

For me, it's really hard to say which Zelda got me hooked. Was it WW or TP. WW was my first Zelda game. But TP was the first Zelda I owned personally. I suppose it was TP that REALLY got me hooked on the series. After playing and beating WW at my friends house, I was pretty interested in Zelda, but a while later in 2006 he got a Wii, and of course TP. At this point I really thought that TP was amazing. And I remember the first time I ever saw TP was when my friend had just pulled into Kakariko Village on Epona. And I looked across the canyonish village and was in awe.

Half a year later in 2007 I got a Wii. And of course TP. Of course later on after beating TP a couple of times, I wanted to expand my Zelda Library. I purchased OoT, LoZ, AoL, and ALttp... And then later MM on the VC. I bought PH when I first got my DSlite, and I had purchased LA, WW, and FSA from the local classic game place. And I got OoT and MM later again for my N64.

Even now that TP if long forgotten as my favourite game, I suppose it will always hold the place of the game that got me hooked..

I'm part of the generation that was hooked by Ocarina of Time, I started playing when I was 4 years old and still up to this very day play on it from time to time, I also still find it a challenge to complete sometimes. It was also OoT that got me active on forums.

But I didn't really bother after a while with any other zeldas, Infact I'd stopped playing them all together for a long time until I played TP and it reignited my need to play this awesome series of games.

Phantom Hourglass. My first one was Wind Waker but it was kind of hard for me (especially when you're a 6 year old who knows not too much about Zelda). Anyway, a friend recommended it to me and bought it for my birthday (kudos to her). I thought it was good, but now I forgot how to use the stylus and found it to be the worst Zelda game that departed from the traditional Hyrule setting. But alas, hither I belong, in the FoZ (Fanbase of Zelda) thanks to the annoying little Toon Link.

I started with TP, actually. When I first got it, I really only bought it because I was expecting 1:1 sword control and I knew that Link guy had a sword. And it was the Wii. So I fired it up, got lost for a couple days trying to figure out how to get a sword, and after learning that you couldn't 1:1 I traded it to my friend for Super Mario Sunshine.
So then I learned that SMS's stupid water gimmick was next to impossible to use reliably and the hub area was less than straightforward, so I traded back. Incidentally, he had done me the favor of advancing the plot (which I ineptly couldn't do at the time), so I started from right after the first Twilight portion, on my way to the Forest Temple. And then I learned that Zelda wasn't about swords, and got totally hooked on the world and lore of Hyrule and the compelling dungeon structure.
It's still hard for me to like LttP because of its odd timeline issues and the general emptiness and uniformity of the world in comparison. I also played a little of WW, MM, and OoT before ever playing TP, but back then I was a kid who didn't have the Zelda sensibilities to even get past the initial tutorial sections- got stuck in the Forsaken Fortress in WW, didn't know about the "jump from really high to break the web" part of the Deku Tree, and played MM on some wacked-out bootleg arcade machine when I was like 8 and didn't even know where the tunnel was to exit the first area of the game.

So yeah, TP and its combat, world-building, and dungeon design got me hooked, and taught a stupid casual that gimmicks don't make the game.

Well, I grew up with ALttP (I have never owned a current gen console, so I played a SNES while everyone else had a N64 :P) Then a few years ago I finally 'upgraded' to a N64. Let's just say I was thrilled and leave it at that...

Anyway, my N64 came with a few games, among those were OoT and MM. I did a little research and found out that it was best to play OoT and then MM. While OoT was a good game, it didn't get me into the series. I didn't really become a fan untill I finished MM. This was the game that made me a fan, it was a slightly weird game, had a great plot and NPC involvement, and it was the first game that madde me actually stop and listen to the music.

It was really a combination of ALttP, OoT and MM. Majora's Mask really sealed the deal though. After I played MM I decided I had to have all the zelda games, and I also became a fan of Zelda games and in consequence video games in general...

My friend brought over Wind Waker once (at this time I had never herd of the Zelda games). I thought it was a cool game so I bought it. A few months later, just after I bought my Wii, I saw another Zelda game in the Wii virtual console, OOT. I bought it and I was instantly hooked. And now I am the gigantic Zelda nerd you know as Peanutjoepap, who has nothing better to do in his spare time than play Zelda and make posts like this on ZD. :)

Probably OoT. The first Zelda game I got was Collectors Edition. I was probably about seven years old at the time. The gamecube was a Christmas gift, and Collectors Edition came with it. At the time, LoZ and AoL weren't the kind of games that I had an interest in or desire to play. Instead, I jumped in to OoT. And that's how it all started. I beat the game in about a year or two, getting in to MM midway the playthrough. Eventually I had all the Zelda games released at my disposal. But OoT was the one that really got me hooked.

Well, I had been a general gaming fan, really I still am. While I grew up on the old 2D games, it was Ocarina of Time that got me hooked on the series, but what got me even more into it was theorizing which started with OoT. So, it was far from my first game, but it is definitely what started it for me.

The first Zelda people buy is always the best in their opinion. The one I like the most is Twilight Princess. Though I did see Wind Waker gameplay before it, it was just my friends playing it. I was just looking for a good Wii game and heard the hype surrounding TP and I got it. It was one of the best games I've ever played.

It would have to be OoT for me. I'd played a few games before that: my brother and I got an original gameboy system for free from someone, and it had LA, but I was so young I couldn't figure out much of what to do; then later, we got a gameboy color, and my brother purchased OoA, which I was actually able to beat at that point, being a bit older, although I had some serious difficulties at certain points. Then a while later, when we got a gameboy advance, I eventually got MC; not because it was a Zelda game, but because it had pretty good ratings on game sites. But I still wasn't hooked on the Zelda series really, as didn't think much about playing other games from it.
Then my friend got a free N64, which we decided we'd share, and split the cost of games. One of the first games we got was, of course, OoT. We played it almost non-stop whenever we were both in the same place, and it was just totally awesome. Then of course, when I found there was a sequel to it (MM) we just had to get that. So I've been hooked on the Zelda series ever since.

I don't think that's necessarily true. Phantom Hourglass is the first game I played and I think it's the worst in the series (Other than the CD-i ones). Also, don't most of the posts in this thread go against that idea?

Twilight Princess

WW started an understanding that Zelda existed when I went to my friends house and he was playing it. Then skipping ahead a few years my other friends were talking about Minish cap and the new wii zelda. Note: I didnt own any zelda game at the time so I thought I see if the game was good. It was then a few years after that I tried a few other Zelda games and now I'm here.

I remember being around 6 years old when i first played Ocarina of Time. Well, it was my brother who did all the playing I just watched.

As we grew up my bro grew into a Sony fanboy while i remained true to Nintendo. 4 years later was when I played Oot again and remembered all the nightmares and joys that game gave me. I really enjoyed every moment, and that was the start of it all. Zelda played a crucial role in my childhood! I wouldn't want it any other way. :)

I definately agree! Everything's true except for the Brother turning into a Sony fan part... He turned into a no-gamer person!

Probably A Link to The Past was the real game that pulled me into The Legend Of Zelda. It was the first game i've played years ago, and i also wanted a new kind of Zelda game since i was really addicted with my old Link To The Past on the SNESS. The dungeons and the whole game play was very attracting to me, back in those times Mario was better for me. But that's because Mario has a lot of Games. I miss the old times, the 2D games.
But then they released a other Zelda game for the Nintento 64, exactly, Ocarina of Time. Well actually years later, but this game was also very attracting. The gameplay, the 3D, the adult Link and plenty more reasons. So OoT was the reason i bought Majora's Mask and the rest.

But my addiction started with A Link To The Past, till today i still love this game, same for OoT. OoT was like an improved Alttp. But i never played OoT if i didn't play aLttP, so i really have to say that AlltP pulled me into the games. However OoT was ways better and let me played the other Zelda games like Majora's Mask, Wind Waker, Minish Cap. I have to say that Majora's Mask was a disappointment in the past, but that was because i didn't understand English very well. The same was for OoT, but my parents bought a whole Walkthrough something ''book''. So if i was stuck i had always my help, hehe.

So it all started with A Link To The Past in combination with Ocarina of Time. After i've played Majora's Mask finally and The Wind Waker it started to be my Favorite game ever, i'm a huge fan of Zelda games with Mario still as my second favorite. Let it be for plenty more years.

The first Zelda I played was LoZ way back when, just a little before they released the SNES. Was pretty young back then, but I recall being somewhat impressed by the colorful Octorok's and wanting to play this game some more. Alas, my brother would have none of it as playing LoZ involved me sitting in his room in front of his TV all day.

I didn't really get into Zelda until I finally got an SNES and played Alttp. Was incredible; still is. I don't believe I could've ever really enjoyed the original LoZ without playing Alttp first. Alttp got me interested in the storyline, which caused me to buy many more zeldas in the future.

I've only played WW and the ones on the collector's edition but if I had to choose it would definitely be WW.

I really liked OoT and MM, but WW I found to be the most charming. The dialogue is so cute, (OoT's revolves a bit too much around romantic possibilities imho) and there were just some of those WOW moments, like the very ending and most of Windfall Island that made the game worth way more than the $20 I paid for it.

I am exactly the same as you. Ocarina of Time was the first Zelda game I ever played and from the first time I saw Link gallop across Hyrule Field at dawn on Epona, I knew that this was something special. It's still my favourite game out of all the ones I've played, Twilight Princess being a close second. Since then, I have never lost my love for the series.

I played OoT and MM, and I liked them a lot. Those games were like an introduction to the series for me.

The game that made me a real Zelda fan was WW. The change from the N64 graphics to the GC graphics helped a lot, I'm one of those people that actually love WW graphics. I get in a good mood just by looking at them!:) But it was mainly the story that had me hooked.

Then I learned about all the different games and even now I'm trying to beat some of them so I'm able to know more about the complete Zelda story.

I got the Oracle series at te age of 6/7 (not completly sure) and I did play boh games a lot, but I didn't know that this a game from one of the greatest game series ever, plus I wasn't able to complete any of them.

Then a year ago, I found this pretty cool website, it had a lot of N64s and GCs games, so I bought LoZ (as a NES Classic for GBA) and MM. So it was the original Legend of Zelda and MM that got me hooked. Then 5 months later, I had collected all the Zelda games but TP (I didn't have a Wii at that point) and I had completed 7 of them. Sadly, around X-mas time I stopped playing because I got interresed in Sonic Mega Collection. I've just started playing them again, I completed OoT again last week!!!

My boyfriend at the time was a massive Zelda fan, and one day I watched him playing through Ocarina of Time and thought wow, this is pretty cool. My first Zelda game however was A Link To The Past (GBA version)...although the one that I really really really loved was Wind Waker. No, I'm serious. xD

And since then I've managed to get hold of all the mainstream games in one way or another. There is no series I have better dedicated myself to. xD

When I started playing video games, my first system was Nintendo 64, and we had many games, my dad was a huge gamer, so he had tons of games, once I was old enough to play, I played OoT, at the time I was 6, and I sucked at the game, so I watched my dad play, OoT is the game that got me hooked, it's also the first Zelda game that I played, and is also my favorite Zelda game.

I first watched my brother playing zelda when I was about 4 or 5. but at that time, I thought it was just another one of those stupid "boy games", butwhen i was about.... 9, when I got my DS, my brother gave me Phantom Hourglass. I really loved the game, and have now completed it 9 !/2 times. (I would've completed it more, but I've lost it twice & had to get new ones) XD anyways, my brother then gave me his N64 and copy of Ocarina of Time. Truth be told, I still haven't completed it. :)

Well the one that pulled me in was Oot, I got for my 8th birthday, I had gotten a gamecube special edition that came with the zelda anthology disk. After everyone left in loaded it up and was amazed they had loaded these games on the disk, so I scanned through the menu looking for which one to play and the Oot picture caught my eye. So I pressed the a button and started playing it the graphics looked really cool to me but remeber that was the first game I have ever played. Anyway I played it and liked it the adventure aspect and the swords and sheild and the combat was cool I like it alot. Afterwards I stopped playing it and started playing Mm I like it to and it appealed to me even more until that night when I had to go to bed. But ever since then I have always loved the zelda series and that is why I love Oot so much. I like this thread I never though I would tell people about how I came to love the series but every minute playing a zelda game is like being the richest guy in the world.:D;):nerd:

It was MM when I was 6, and the whole deepness of the game (yes, I knew deepness and how to identify it back then) they hooked me. I played it on my perfect version of the Collectors Edition and I got to Ikana Canyon and immediately FELL IN LOVE. I then played OoT, and the pure nostalgia of it made my head spin. Though I hadn't played it before, I loved it for being the prequel of MM. Last month, my parents told me that they used to be Zelda fans before I was born. Of course, they admitted this once I was playing ALttP on the Virtual Console, which they owned the original. Ever since, I have planned out on how to collect every Zelda game.

A Link to the Past.

It might have been the first one I played, but it really did hook me in. I adored Link and Zelda so much! I loved how you had to go save the Princess and how you could go anywhere you wanted. When I first played, I didn't really understand how to do the dungeons that well. I was about seven before I could understand how the game really worked. It was the first one I played through and beat. I still remember how my hands trembled when I was fighting Ganon. When you're that young, it all seems like a big deal, you know?

ALttP really did bring me into the series. It was made of pure awesome. <3

My first game and the one that got me addicted are the same thing - the original Legend of Zelda, NES version.

Strangely enough, this was only last summer :P (You get desperate for things to do when you're sick in bed for two weeks.) I had actually purchased the game years ago and finally got around to playing it.

I remember a convo with my then-boyfriend regarding it, too:
me: Why didn't anyone ever tell me how much this game rocks?
him: [laughs] Wait until you play Ocarina of Time.

I was introduced to Zelda when I was like 4 or 5 years old with the Legend of Zelda on NES. It was my brothers game but It was just a game to us at the time, nothing too big. Since that was the only game I knew of, that was Zelda, until Wind Waker, I missed out on knowing about the other games like Adventure of Link, A Link to the Past, Link's Awakening, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, and the Oracle games. A big part of that would probably be because I was introduced to the first Zelda game in 1999 or 2000 meaning it was very late and I was too young to have any knowledge of video games, besides they were fun to play. It was until Wind Waker that I was older and understood things a lot more. My brother knew about Ocarina of Time on N64 but never got it because we weren't really big on Zelda. Then on the Gamecube he saw Wind Waker and was reading news on it, and seeing pictures and videos on IGN and then we fell in love. Now we actually looked up games on the internet and had more knowledge on games instead of going to the store and looking at covers of video games to see which one looks cool and get it, like we use to. He went to Gamestop and pre-ordered it and got a Ocarina if Time for free by mistake on Gamecube because he pre-ordered Wind Waker.(He was one of the lucky ones that got it free with the pre-order) Now he had a Zelda game to try out while he waits for Wind Waker. When he played and passed it and we knew it was a master piece and really interesing and memorable. So I never really played the games except the first one on NES, (which is long gone along with the NES) but I was still a fan and always watched my brother play because I never owned a console until 2004 all I had was a Gameboy Advance and later an SP and DS. So in 2005 I saw a cool commercial of Minish Cap and got my first ever Zelda game.

To be completely truthful, A Link to the Past was the game that pulled me into the series and got me hooked.

As much as I will get slated for saying this the one that got me hooked was Wind Waker. I had played Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time but to me they aren't as deep as Zelda games than Wind Waker is. Although that is probably because I adore side quests which may explain why my favourites are Wind Waker and Majora's Mask.

I know this is going to be cliche but the game that really drew me in was the original LoZ. I loved the map and the bosses were fun as opposed to the jump over the boss to get an ax. The puzzles were really awesome. I loved the save feature, the first nes game to offer it. And also who can forget 8 bit over world theme.

The games that pulled me in were Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages. My brother had bought them and I watched him play constantly. When I saw Link riding around on Dimitri's back, I was like 'cute dinosaur thing! :O' So I started playing so I could swim around. Then I discovered the games actually had more to them than riding around on cute animals. That's how I started playing Zelda games...

Well, I played a lot of Zelda in my lifetime before I even got hooked on the series, the first game I had played was Ocarina of Time, on an N64 (which I proudly still have), it was a great introduction to the series, but I was like 5-7 years old, and as you probably guessed I couldn't even complete it. I finally completed it in Collector's Edition and that's also when I finally got to play Majora's Mask (I had it for n64 too, but never truly played it, as it was so hard I didn't even get through the first 3-day cycle, and it somehow got lost) I beat it, and loved it, though they were just games to me. Then I got Wind Waker, oh Wind Waker, It was and still is one of the best games I've ever played, and I almost did everything in the game (that's how much I loved it then) and was in the process of completing the Nintendo Gallery, It made me a fan, but didn't get me Hooked, unfortunately the game broke, and shortly after my, GC got messed up. But I got a new one, and my brother got Twilight Princess for it, it looked great, but I never got to actually play it, that one unfortunately broke too, and my brother sold TP. I took a big break from games altogether, then when I got emulators for my iPod Touch, I played a little Pokemon, then I eventually took out my old N64 and a friend gave me Majora's Mask along with some other N64 games (I still had/have OoT) Replaying Majora's Mask got me HOOKED on Zelda, I explored the game and got all the masks, then got FD's Mask, I fell in love with the game and the series, after that my friend lent me a GC, I re-bought WW, bought TP and my love of the Zelda series grew, I eventually got a Wii just for Skyward Sword, and got SSBB to help me wait. I owe it all to Majora's Mask, and some credit to my iPod (Lol). Sorry for the rambling, I just couldn't think of another way to approach this, then my thoughts just went crazy @_@

The one that got me hooked was OoT. I never new a game could have so much story sam with MM. Wind Waker suprised me and got me rehooked into the series. I realized these weren't just games, but masterpieces.

Mine would have to be WW. The first one I ever played was Zelda 2, and that got me hook. But WW sealed the deal.

I think I've said it before, but I don't mind. The game that pulled me in is also my favourite-Twilight Princess.
While the first game I did play was OoT, I only got to Jabu-Jabu, I had no idea you had to give him a fish, so I gave up and quit the game.

Then in '07 when I got my Wii, my sis got Twilight Princess, and it was the story and the world that pulled me in. I thought it was such an amazing place, and I still remember after when I first beat it and kept thinking about Hyrule. And now I''ve almost made my way back to each game in the series.

My first Zelda game was Wind Waker, which I recieved for.... My birthday, I believe, when I was 6. I got up to Gohma in Dragon Roost Cavern, who I couldn't beat at the time, and I left the series alone until the summer of 2008 when I rented Twilight Princess for GameCube at Blockbuster. I stayed up playing for hours until I had to return the game.

Now, GameCube games are gettin' pretty old, right, and the disc from Blockbuster ws pretty marked up... So I told the guy at the desk about the scratches, and he said he'd get it fixed. Well, I still don't think it's been fixed. I went on a grueling search across my whole county to find the game at various GameStops, etc. Until, finally, we found it. Now, we found it in October, a week or two before my birthday, and at this point, the game was still kinda expensive... So I was told we'd buy it, and I'd get it for my birthday. So it sat at my house for days, unplayed, until my mother finally cracked and let me open it early. THAT adventure is why TP means so much to me. That and the actual game experience.... XD

I actually kind of liked Spirit Tracks, but the one that got me obsessed was Twilight Princess. It was one of the best Zelda games, and I love everything about it; the story, the dungeons, and the characters. If I wouldn't have asked for it for my birthday, I would probably not be here.

My first Zelda game was The Minish Cap, but the game that really made me a Zelda fan was the Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker. I was so sucked into the gameplay, and the story was amazing, after playing WW I was like "Yeah, I like the Legend of Zelda a lot!" So the WW really made my like it.

i played MC first, but the one that got me started was TP.

at first, i thought the zelda series was VERY overrated. i only thought this because when i played MC, i didn't like it very much, that, and the fact that people called it better than mario, which i thought was rediculous at the time. one day though, i rented TP only because a friend recommended it. i thought it was only ok, and i played until about halfway through the first dungeon, but i wasn't hooked by any means. a couple months later, i decided to rent it again. by the time i got to kakariko, i fell in love with the game, so i asked for it for my birthday that year and the rest is history...

The first Zelda I'd ever played was OoT and everything about it drew me in: the gameplay, the characters, the music, the story. I have to give credit to MM, my second Zelda, as well, since after playing that I got hooked.

Ever since I was younger, we always had Zelda games. Ocarina of Time was my brothers' most played game out of the tons of games we had for our N64.
I got out of the Zelda franchise, though, because I wasn't really into video games up until a few years ago.
It wasn't until Twilight Princess, of course, that /I/ got into the series. Now I'm a huge fan of all the games, but Twilight Princess remains my favorite.

Ocarina of Time. Played it at a friends and my Dad got it for me a few days/weeks later (hard to remember, time works weirdly when you're a kid). Best game ever!

The game that got me addicted to Zelda was porbably OoT. To be fair though the first Zelda game I ever completed was WW. In all honestly the first zelda game I ever played was the first one when I was really little, but I didn't even know what I was doing I was so young. So yah OoT got me addicted. I love that game.:D

Could have sworn I'd replied to this post before, but apparently not.

The very first game I played was the original Legend of Zelda. In a sense, it was the one that "pulled me in" because it interested me enough to seek out the others. For that matter, one reason I got a Wii was because of the virtual console and how it had some of the older Mario/Zelda games (I was looking for those specifically.)

The one that really pulled me into fandom, however, was Twilight Princess. I enjoyed the experience so much I wanted to seek out other Zelda fans, which also had the advantage of sparing my best friend's inbox, who kindly put up with updates to a game she wasn't even playing.

Definitely aLttP. I played it together with my best friend and it took us almost 2 years to complete 100%, from 1994 to 1996 (we were 6-9 years old back then). It was the first game that I was so addicted to that I often played until late at night, maybe 3am, which was extremely late by kid standards :). But it wasn't until 2007 that I played OoT and MM, those two really pulled me in!
