I decided to make a thread about this awesome music band. They are The Black Eyed Peas (B.E.P). They are my favorite band since 2004. Here is a small biography:
They are the best selling hip-hop group in music today, having sold over 26 million albums worldwide. In fact, they are one of the planet's most popular artists, and have toured more countries than any other artist. The group is composed of Will.i.am, Apl.de.ap, Taboo, and Fergie.
The group's earliest connections go back to high school, when Will.i.am and Apl.de.ap were part of Tribal Nation, a breakdancing crew.
Eventually, they decided to focus more on music and split off into their own as Atban Klann, their esoteric name is an acronym for A Tribe Beyond a Nation.
Eazy-E's Ruthless Records signed the group in 1992. But after Eazy-E died of AIDS, it signaled the end of any further deals with Ruthless. :(
In 1995, Will.i.am and Apl.de.ap met the rapper Taboo in a club. Taboo joined the band and they reformed as The Black Eyed Peas.
In 1998, their debut album Behind The Front won the Peas critical acclaim.
In 2000, their second album, Bridging The Gap was released.
Their breakthrough album Elephunk came out in 2003. It featured a new member, called Fergie. She is the replacement of the background singer Kim Hill who departed the band during 2000.
From Elephunk came the anti-war anthem Where Is The Love, which became their first major hit, peaking at #8 on the US Hot 100, but topping the charts practically everywhere else, including six weeks at #1 in the UK where it became the biggest-selling single of 2003. Elephunk had a total of 7.5 million albums sold worldwide, 4 Grammy nominations and 1 Grammy award for Let's Get It Started. :D
In 2005, The Black Eyed Peas released Monkey Business.
The album's first single, Don't Phunk with My Heart, reached #3 on the U.S. Hot 100. The song reached #3 in the UK, #5 in Canada, and stayed at #1 for three weeks in Australia.
My Humps, another song from the album, immediately achieved commercial success in the U.S. reaching #3 on the U.S. Hot 100 and #1 in Australia.
Despite this, the album Monkey Business debuted at #2 on the U.S. Billboard 200 albums chart, selling over 295,000 copies in its first week. It sold more than 9 millions album worldwide and earn The Black Eyed Peas 2 Grammy awards.
In 2006, Fergie released her solo album The Dutchess.
In 2007, Will.i.am released his solo album Songs About Girls.
The group's fifth studio album, The E.N.D. (The Energy Never Dies), was released on June 9, 2009.
The smash hit Boom Boom Pow was released on February 22. It became the group's first song to reach #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, where it remained for 12 weeks. The song also peaked at #1 in Australia, in Canada, and in the UK.
The album entered the #1 position on the Billboard 200, selling 304,000 copies during the first week. The album has sold a total of 1,140,320 copies in the U.S. so far. :P
The B.E.P chose the song I Gotta Feeling as the second official single from the album. It debuted at #2 on the Hot 100 behind Boom Boom Pow and later surpassed it, taking the #1 spot. Since Boom Boom Pow reached the #1 spot in April, the group has been on top of the chart for 26 consecutives weeks, more than any other artists. Their hit I Gotta Feeling has spent 14 weeks at #1.
Their new single Meet Me Halfway debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at #75 and jumped to #47 the next week. The song is currently at # 17. You can watch the awesome video here: :)
