Favorite Video Game Music

I have played some really good games that had very good music. So I wish to know if you've felt the same for some game, or games. Did you like the music in it? If so, share those games here.

Here are mine from most liked to least.

-- I thought Valkyrie Profile's music was great. I love it, I even have them on my Windows Media Player and I also carry them in my mp3 Pearl. I listen to them every day...right now I am listening to those songs. That is how much I love the music from this game.

--I also played Skies of Arcadia for the Gamecube. A really nice rpg. I thought the music in that game was also great, and so I have most of the tracks saved in my mp3 and WMP.

Other game music that comes to mind that is cool are from the following games:
Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind waker, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Gladius (ps2, GC) and the Advanced Wars Series.

Dig Dug's music was own. You just can't deny it. You walk around and you'd make the noise and dig around and make noise and blow those enemies up and make the noise and fire and the end stage music. Classic.

I can't pick simply one game, but I can narrow it down to 2 games: Chrono Trigger and Banjo Kazooie.

Chrono Trigger just had so many songs, and they were all amazing. They were either really happy, really creepy, really emotional, etc.

Banjo Kazooie's songs I find bring back a lot of memories for me from when I was little. Plus, I like what Rare does with the Overworld in that as you approach a level, the style of the music changes. And, I actually think it's the music that got me back into the game after a serious lull.

I've personally always been quite partial to any game which has its own orchestrated music, which has become quite popular with some of the newer games. Twilight Princess was one particular game I liked for this, and I also liked how it was the same song only played in forty-seven different ways for Hyrule Field, the mountain, and the Gerudo Desert, plus several other places, that was cool. All of the Zelda games have always had some of my favorite music, and I've actually learned to play a couple o' tunes on my pipes. The overworld theme of LoZ played on the bagpipes really gets a crowd to go crazy.

I also quite enjoyed the music in Halo 3: ODST. The first Halo had a pretty cool, blood-pumping theme that came up every time you were about to suddenly fall into a firefight with forty billion aliens, and a few other neat songs, but I really like the turn that ODST took with the music. Through a large part of the game, you're running around through the ruins of a city that had been destroyed only a few hours prior, and it's got this dark overtone as you run around, dodging alien fire and sneaking through to your objective. The score is quite different in these parts from the previous trilogy, and it's actually an amazing listen.

These are the ones that stood out to me as among my favorites in the past few years, but other games I enjoyed the music from particularly included the Tales series, SSB Brawl (That crazy cool operatic thing), Braid, and I love the simplistic soundtrack in Super Mario Brothers as well as several other old school games.

I would like to say that Dearly Beloved from the Kingdom Hearts series may just be the most beautiful piece of music I've ever heard in any video game. The Song of Healing from MM is also way up there, as it gives me that emotional vibe that Dearly Beloved gives.

I also must say that the Eight Melodies from Mother/Earthbound made me cry the first time hearing them. Now I feel a little sad when listening to them. I also love every Metroid track in the original and super versions. Especially the ending in the original.

I just love the song. It's so incredibly epic that it makes me explode with pure joy from the beauty of the song. There is no doubt in my mind that this is the greatest song to ever grace my ears. There were quite a few contenders for my favorite FF song such as the final battle theme from VI and A New World from V, but Searching for Friends just takes the cake without a doubt. And no, that cake is not a lie.

This is going to be tough, but here are mine, in no particular order. I also will try to avoid spoilers if I have any spoilers come from scenes with the music.

Single game - Astal: The Crystal Palace (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pp4AZvCO8mA). Astal actually has some pretty great music, but this one sticks out to me the most. It's a calm yet amazing track, plus the fact that it's close to the end of the game makes it have a bit of an uplifting effect.

Atelier series - Mana Khemia: Nefertiti (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5FMRpDhhko). This is just a really great boss battle theme, in fact, I found it hard to choose between a lot of music from the game. This is one of the themes that most people consider the best, so I chose it. There's no real deep meaning from it for me, it's just an awesome battle theme.

Final Fantasy series - Final Fantasy IX: You're Not Alone (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHsXNkI1rfA)!. This was even harder, I had to choose between two XI tracks and another from IX. I picked this one because I know the XI tracks may wind up being posted anyway. Also, this one is actually one of my favourite things of music to listen to because of how oddly uplifting and powerful it feels.

Disgaea series(Makai series? Not sure.) - Phantom Brave: Heaven's Garden (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxPWAfcz14E). (Warning: Vocals) This was another hard choice, Disgaea 2's credits being the other one. But this song really just seems like everything in the game combined into one. There's not really that much I can say about it other than the way it's used in the game works in a way that makes me love it more.

MOTHER/Earthbound series - MOTHER 3: It Is Finished (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-EKQp4Hedk). This, just this. This is what most people who have played MOTHER 3 heard as they realized there was water coming from their eyes and running down their cheeks. In fact, I beat the game 2 years ago and I still tear up just from this. I also wind up getting chills from most of the tracks in the entire series. It's probably the most emotional track in a game I've ever heard, next to the Love Theme, which this essentially is, I just chose this version because of what's going on when it plays.


Well, that was the hardest list I've put together and I'll take this time to say that I recommend the music from each of those games and series, not just the songs I posted, they're all great.

I too like all of the Krazoa music in Starfox Adventures. It adds to the feel of exploring those areas. But my favorite SFA music is still the rock version of Starfox 64's Meteo that plays in SFA's credits. "I am reborn, the mighty Krazoa god! Kneel, all those that stand before me!" To me, Cave Story had no bad music. I love that game in general, it's just a work of art.
Mario 64, possibly my favorite game of all time (Except when Zelda: OoT is...) had some really great, memorable soundtracks, specifically ones like Rainbow Ride.
I love most all of the Donkey Kong Country music that I've heard.
Metroid Prime had some AMAZING atmospheric effects in it's music that I don't think could be reproduced and still capture me in the same way.

There's a lot of good video game music. I listen to vgm more than "real" music to be honest. However, Sonic will always be my favorite.

Mother/EarthBound would probably be in my Top 5 of best vg soundtracks, I don't know where to put it. Mother 1/ EarthBound Zero has some of the best 8-Bit music you will ever hear. I don't need to explain Zelda music, maybe in a different thread but if there was any music that can make you feel like your in a different world, it has to be Metroid. Metroid's music shoves atmosphere down your throat. It makes you feel alone, by yourself, with no help. My favorite song has got to be Kraid's Lair from the original Metroid. It sounds so creepy yet beautiful at the same time.
