View Full Version : Stupid Little Things

I could have sworn there was a "Little Things that Make the Games" topic, but I cannot find it. Perhaps it was one of those taken away in th forum wipe.
Anyway, I was fiddling around in Oracle of Seasons tonight and paid a random visit to Malon's house. I realized again just how much I love...
... that baby chicken that follows you around. There's this little chick there among the cuccoos that tries to follow you wherever you go in the house. It really likes Link.
It's the stupidest little thing, but I love it. I think that litlte bit of programming is adorable.
So, what are some of the most random, little stupid things in the Zelda games that you love?

Ah, let me see now...Ah yes. One little random thing that I loved in the series was the fact that you could cut up the signs in OoT and MM. :D And to top it all off in MM once you cut the signs, you could play the Song of Healing to make the pieces magically float up and come back together again. :) Sweetness!
There's probably other little random things that I love in the Zelda series, but I can't recall them at the moment.

Well similar to your post Shadsie, I love in MC, the little chick that just sits on top of Swiftblades house and you can only get to it when you are a minish. Then, once you get to it, it says something like 'I won't attack you, I'm not like my brothers.' The little chick itself has absolutely no storyline significance and I believe all it does is fuse a Kinstone piece with you which you can then easily just do with someone else. I just found this little chick adorable, the fact that every time you went near him he would tweet like mad aswell in the hope you'd go talk to him.
Another thing in MC I really like is when you get the sound test. It is officially the most pointless reward of all time, but it is so satisfying to know that you have finally collected all the figurines that it is a,lso one of the most rewardding rewards of all time, if that makes sense lol. Finally for MC, is the little dog who belongs to the store clerk. He is so happy when you feed him, it's so cute. I also love turning to Minish and he'd say something like 'My owner never has time to play with me anymore.' So, I'd spend like 15 minutes just running around the room with him. Poor little guy.
Link's grandma in WW was one of the MOST adorable Zelda moments of all time in my opinion. I loved how sweet she was, running around making you that stew. One of my most memorable little moments that always makes me go 'awwww' is when she sends you a letter with all her savings. It's 20 rupees. That's SO adorable. If you went outside and cut grass for two minutes you could make that, and that is from Link's grandma saving up for a long time. It just wouldnt have been the same if she sent you like 100 rupees or something, 20 was just perfect.
That's all I can think of for now unfortunately. I'll post or edit later when I think of more.

Lol, I remember in Wind Waker, in a few cutscenes where Link gets an item, he'd actually hold that pose and then be all "Huh? Oh, right. Um, yeah". Like at the beginning, where Grandma gives you the shield, and you see him holding his silly pose and then looking behind him and quickly stepping back to normal. Same thing happened when you get Din's Pearl from Komali, and a couple of other times. It's just a funny little meta gag that made me laugh.

When you approach the group of kids known as the killer bees, they block your way and follow you around, I thought that was a little cool. Stupid, but cool. (Get away from me, dang it, I want to pass)

I love the moment in TWW when Link meows to avoid detection. It was so unexpected, and it's exactly what a kid would do. I was lulzing all over the place.
Or how about the way Hena scratches her back just like her ancestor. I thought that was really amusing and such an interesting way to pay a small homage to OoT.
Or even the tiny bit of personality they showed in TMC's Princess Zelda. She was jumping up and down and running around all excited at the festival... it was so adorable.
Like others have mentioned, I love how Link does that traditional holding-up-new-item pose when he first gets the tunic, but he has a reluctant expression on his face instead of a triumphant one. Haha, that was great.

Oh yeah, that was cool.
Also, when you go to some Island to get the Iron boots, when Link is on the ice and you make him run then turn direction quickly, he falls face first to the ground. That was funny as heck. :P I remember I spent more than five minutes doing just that, because I was trying to make him fall near the edge of the water just to see if he would fall in it face first. I almost pulled it off too.

My fiance' was watching me play WW for the first time when I came to that part. I jumped and I SWEAR, I was looking around all over the place for the cat (on screen. Our cat doesn't have quite that kind of meow). My guy was all "I think it was Link!" Then he did it again... and... wow. It was just so hiliarious!
Oh, and Medli. I've slammed her into walls on purpose just to see her get the stars and to talk to her to see her dizzy-speech.
Man, Wind Waker is hilarious.

It's even funnier in the second quest when he's holding nothing.

I still enjoy to hit the cuccos in any Zelda games until they charge at you. That is always funny. Same thing for the pigs in WW, especially the big black one!!! :)

I wasted so much time in TP just walking around with the cat, and occasionally the dog.

You can fill an encyclopedia with all the epic details throughout the zelda series XD. The little details are half ofwhat makes the games so great (well...)
anywho, those said were great. I also loved PH's lolmoments. like when linebeck shakes you, then gives you a key and link stumbles around like a drunk holding the key in the air...ah, good times

I too liked how Link slips on the ice in WW. That was so much fun to do for a while. :)
I also really liked how enemies would run away from you when you held a bomb, just like in...somewhat real life.

It's similar to what you said.
If something follows me in a game, like when you put on the Bremen Mask in Majora's Mask and start marching around, the dog will follow. Makes me giggle, and earns me a look of stupidity with whoever's around...

Hrmm.. Let me see. One of my favourite pointless little things in the Zelda games are jumping off high things. Such as in TP in Kakariko Village in the very tall outpost. Or Outset Island in Wind Waker. I also really like fighting the pigs on Windfall Island in Wind Waker. On time I actually spent about four hours and four bottles full of fairies battling a pig. I believe it was during a podcast, and I eventually one by launching it off of my shield over a wall and into the sea.
I also have an unhealthy obsession with playing around in the Laundry Pool. And I love pushing the frog into the water.. It's kind of creepy actually. But these are some of the things which really make the game for me.

I like the animals. Getting them to follow you, picking them up...it's just soooo cute!! I don't like hurting them, though. In MM, I loved going to Romani Ranch to see all the animals there, especially the little chicks. And, since cats are my favourite animal, I would always pick one up and carry it around with me in Hyrule Castle Town in TP.
Link sneezing in the Ice Cavern in OoT is also adorable. As is crawling around in WW, or sidling. Sidling is especially funny if you tilt the control stick the tiniest bit from left to right, and instead of moving his whole body, Link will only move his eyes, giving him the whole shifty-eye thing.

Yah, I love doing that I found out you can cut it up to five times, it looks so cool when it just flies back together.
And in Oot you can do this trick to with Zelda's Lullaby.:nerd:

In Phantom Hourglass, taking the grappling hook and targeting two cuccos so they are forced to crash into each other. Then they go “Baaw-gawwk‼” I don’t know why it’s so funny, but it is.

In MM, I liked ringing the bell at the laundry pool and the boy with the Keaton Mask opens it for a short time. I try to get to him but he closes the door before I actually get to it though. It doesn't do anything, yet I think it's fun :)

In Twilight Princess, I get amused when I break Iza's pots and then she's like "Com-pen-sation!" It's a great way to offload your oversupply of rupees. What I like even better in TP is running around castle town as a wolf. Everyone screams when I get near them, it's hillarious.
My favourite thing is probably int he HIdden VIllage of TP. When you decided to play the 'Find the Cats' game, and you talk to one that you already found, sometimes they say something like 'We're already pals'. Either way, it was the sort of thing one of my friends would say, so I just pictured her voice coming out of the cat, and I started to laugh.

I *loved* scaring people as a wolf. One of my favorite things to do is to go outside the Star Game tent and "scare the fangirls." You know, the trio that squees about how the new challenger (Link) is "sooo handsome!" and gasp when they watch you play the game. I've never beaten Star, but I heard they get even *more* fangirly when you beat it, so... "Scare the obnoxious squealing fangirls half to death as a wolf!" is quite amusing to me.
There's also that guy with the puppy you speak with as a human who talks about his love of dogs, how dogs are so cute. You go to him as a wolf and he's scared half to death. I was expecting him to be one of the few people who liked Wolf Link, but no. I guess he doesn't like *all* dogs.

Hrmm.. Let me see. One of my favourite pointless little things in the Zelda games are jumping off high things. Such as in TP in Kakariko Village in the very tall outpost. Or Outset Island in Wind Waker.
I couldn't agree with this more. Like you said, Kazumi, in the Wind Waker, you could jump off the big cliff on Outset Island in the Wind Waker. I also liked bringing little pigs up there and just throwing them off. You could also bring the Big Black one (named after Link) up, put on the iron boots, and then fall down, and the pig would go through the rock. Cool little glitch right there.
In OoT, it was fun to put on the masks and scare people in Hyrule Castle Town (I think that's what it's called), I loved their reactions. And while no one ever reacted strangely, it was fun to Z-target random people in Clock Town in MM and then do the Kamaro Mask dance. And that's just one of many pointless things I like to do with masks in that game.
And in PH, all the priceless Linebeck cutscenes. They all made me laugh. Sometimes quite a bit. I especially liked the one at the end of the Ghost Ship, where he knocks down Tetra's stone-covered body in the Background, then struggles to get it back upright. I also loved how right when you first meet him, and you've saved him, he shakes Link a bunch, and once he gives him the key, he's all shaky, and wobbling around everywhere. Just classic.
In TP, I would go around in Hyrule Field, and kill enemies with the Jump Strike. The Jump Strike is the most amazing move ever, and Link's yell when he does it is awesome. I was way to obsessed with that thing my first playthrough of TP. I pretty much killed every enemy I could with it.

Hitting the pigs on Windfall and Outset island were my favorite things to do on WW. I used all the weapon, bombs, arrows, the skull hammer, and the boomerang. Then they would get angry and chase you. The cuccoos just aren't as fun...

In OOT, I remember when you first talk to the Boss Carpenter and he lets out a weird scream. My brother and I at first thought it was my mom yelling off in the kitchen, and then when we realized it was the game we nearly died laughing!!
One thing I always enjoyed doing was talking to the random people in each zelda game, looking to see what they have to say (sometimes its hilarious, and other times its mysterious)

I loved in OoT running over cuccoos with Epona, and then sitting there astride Epona as you were unharmed, but cuccoos still swarmed you.
I loved Link's expression in WW when Tetra fired him out of the cannon. As the countdown got lower, his expression was priceless.
I loved in TP when you're in the market district of Castle Town, you can pick up an apple and the 'item' theme plays.
I loved how Link ran way screaming from Darunia when he offered him a hug since they were "brothers." It was so funny. Imagining Little Link being hugged by a huge Goron is pure gold in my book.
I adored the western music choice in the Hidden Village when playing games such as sharp-shooting the moglins or finding the cats. It was so awesome! I kept pretending Link was a gunslinger in a spaghetti western.
I love the way wolf-link sways when he howls! It's like he's just chill, and jamming out.
But my all-time favorite little thing in Zelda EVER,
is in Twilight Princess.
I LOVE the sword-spin/flourish Link does when he kills an enemy with a Hidden skill. It's so cool! and there's the little 'SHING!' as he resheaths his sword. SO COOL.

I think WW Link's expression as he heard that countdown is one of the funniest moments in all the games.
TP Link also finds "a pretty flower" in Castle Town. It's so cute.
In OoT, the "brotherly hugs thing?" A friend of mine said it best, ahem: Link: Nooooo! I want to keep my ribcage!
Link as a gunslinger in a spaghetti western.... I've written a fanfic that was just that! Yes.... I'm weird.... It's one of my best reviewed fics, too, and it's *not* humor.

One of those little things that I love about Twilight Princess is how Malo, Collin , etc ( Cant remember their names at the moment ) actuelly duck whenever you swing a sword at them or shoot an arrow. Normally you would swing your blade at people and they wont even flinch, or do anything at all , so I always get a little excited whenever I see the kids reactions.
...There are othe little things that I love but I cant really think of any at the moment. Also where in WW did you here Link meow like a cat?

Taking a chance that by reviving this thread, other people will also have moments to post.
One of the things I loved in MM was how Link waved when Great Fairy and Turtle left. It's such a natural action that I couldn't tell you why it resonated with me, but it was so cute!
Also in MM, the first time I did Anju and Kafei's quest I was walking through the Eastern Part of Clock Town at night and couldn't figure out where the weird noise was coming from...then saw Goron Link sleeping outside the hotel, snoring. It made me laugh pretty hard.
In TP, there's a part in one of the final scenes where Zant makes a sudden movement and Link makes a motion with his sword so that he's protecting both himself and Midna. I love that detail.
Same game but totally different touch, I like how you can pet the goats and it will bleat. Totally pointless, but cute. They really did a good job with the animals for that game.

I completely agree! When I first discovered the "pet" option I was all :D and proceeded to waste a ton of time on the ranch doing so over and over. I also like how the goats get super pissed off if they see you in wolf form -- they turn red and charge you lol.
Also in TP, I like the pictures in the houses that you can only see if you survey close enough. At Impaz's house there's a black and white picture of a regal looking man in a hat, at Link's house, there's pictures of Epona, a goat, and Fado.
In OoT, I've always loved the little gasp for breath young Link makes after surfacing from water. He goes "Bleh!" all high pitched and it stays adorable every time I hear it :3

I find it amusing that I revived the thread last time and am reviving it again. But since it fits...
I am replaying TP again and I love the first cut scene where Link meets Zelda and he starts growling at her because he doesn't know who she is (which I think is quite smart of him, as all the non-spirts besides Midna have been enemies so far.) Midna, of course, is all giggly because she knows the truth.
This. I simply adored it.

^ One of the main reasons why I love Snowpeak. :]
I always liked how, in TP, after some crucial or emotional moment, the post man would just randomly appear and deliver you some letters. And he'd hum one of the get item tunes while handing it to you. I found that to be pretty snazzy.
Also notice Link's expression when you first meet Ooccoo in the forest temple and she's added to your inventory. Priceless. :]

In TP I loved playing in Ordon. I'd make all the pumpkins grow, then I would make the hawk transport them to the water. Afterwards I would use them as target practice and start all over again.
Also in TP I spent hours gliding with cuccos. In mid flight I would put on iron boots and laugh for no apparent reason.

Okay, I kind of love this thread, I keep coming back to it. Anyway, new game (to me), new little details!
In Minish Cap, you ride mining cars in certain parts of one dungeon. Ezlo and Link are unaware of what they are to start with, and when Link gets in, they hurtle along the tracks, screaming all the way. At the end of the ride, Ezlo says, "That was awful! Why are you smiling?" I like that they're in the middle of a dungeon and Link is enjoying an unexpected roller coaster ride.
Also, when you go home and you take a nap in your bed to recover health, Ezlo takes a nap right beside you. I know he's actually not a cap, but in appearance, it looks like Link is sleeping with a favorite toy or something like that. And then he is apparently the one who wakes up first and shakes Ezlo awake. Cute!

I had to find this thread today, I remembered one thing i really liked about the Province names TP. The big three provinces all had a reference to the goddess in them; Eldin, Lanayru, and Faron (close enough to Farore) I feel kind of dumb that it took me so long to pick up on it, :bleh: but I like how they made that cool little reference without making it totally obvious.

Wow!! I remember all the little thing previously mentioned, and I laugh every time!! ZeldaHam, not only do the pigs "oink" when you carry them, but some even fart while you're walking! Years ago, while playing WW, my friend and I spent a long time trying to get away from the kid on Outset Island with the snot hanging out of his nose!!! In TP, I always enjoyed riding Epona during a thunderstorm. (Emo, much???) I'd ride her over to the North part of Hyrule Field (North of the Castle) and fight a lizalfols with lightning in the background. It made me feel all "hero." :D But I don't remember Link meowing in WW!!!! I'll have to play it all over again... It sounds funny!

In Twilight Princess I was swimming around Zora's domain before the Snowpeak Mansion, and while I was swimming a Zora jumped right over me. It was pretty cool.
I like Link's little "Come on!" in Wind Waker.
I liked hitting the King of Red Lions in the face and seeing him flinch everytime.
I like the glitch in Majora's Mask where you can run around as Fierce Deity Link and seeing everything screw up.
I like how shiny Link's sword is in Wind Waker

In ST, during the Tower of Spirits when Link and Zelda first met Anjean, Zelda looks at Link with a death stare and each time she has something new to say, she gets closer to Link and makes some angry noises. I always thought this was funny since it showed how desperate she wants her body back.

Yes, I love how Zelda shows as much emotion as Toon Link. ^ -^

I love how in WW, when you put all the stones in the statues and then on the last one, link thinks the statues is going to explode so he run, but it didn't, he goes up to it and *BOOM*, he goes flying.

I liked the cow switches in OoT: MQ. I especially liked the one that went up a little every time you hit it, and you had to hit it three times in order to activate it. I think it was in Jabu-Jabu's belly, but I'm not sure.
They were very... a-moo-sing. :)

Dodging Cuccos for sure. I'm thinking of organizing a "Cucco dodging survival challenge"

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw cow heads in jabu jabus mouth. Seriously who comes up with such a weird idea :P
Anyway, one of my favorite 'stupid things' is Salvatores epic storytelling before you start with his 'mini game for kids in windfall'. He tries so hard to make his story very realistic and epic with his cardboard cutouts. That scene and when he shouts 'KABOOM!!!....SPLASH...' always makes me laugh.
I also like the guy from the Star game a lot. He thinks his game is impossible to beat and when Link beats the game he is totally surprised. When you want to play the next Star game he is like: "Not you again?!" but in a more subtle way. It is so useless, but so funny :xd:

I like in TP how you can play fetch with the dog in castle town.

I liked flying with the cuccos in Spirit Tracks to get to all the rooftops and get the treasure. I also loved boomeranging the phantoms and watching thm turn around and go: huh? In Twilight Princess I loved the cats and dogs wondering around. :cat: :dog: But the best thing of all was the dolphins in ST, when they jump out of the water it is really cute. :)

I am playing A Link to the Past with my group, and I noticed this time that when you first come across flute boy in the light world, he's playing his flute for various kinds of animals and birds - including a turkey or ostrich or something (hard to say with the 2D sprite). I don't know why the presence of that large bird made me laugh so hard, but I really liked its inclusion.
Also, I can't find the exact wording, but I was reading the instructions for sumo in Mayor Bo's house. The first two have normal instructions about the maneuvers you can use. The last says something to the effect of, "Raise your leg and stomp your foot. It's very manly." Again, laughing ensued.

Lets see
I love all of link's expressions in TWW.
The animals in TP were awesome imo.
I loved how Zelda acted during ST cutsceens.
I absolutely love the signs in zelda games.
Out of all of them however my absolute favorite little thing in Zelda would have to be when in TWW you smacked the Miniblins with the Skull hammer and they would either go flying to the side or be squised into a pancake :xd:. I love that.

I love in TP how you can talk to animals. I found it so amusing that the animals didn't notice that Link was an oddly-colored, blue-eyed wolf, with a TWILI IMP on his back.
They never once said a thing about Midna! (Exept for Louise, but that doesn't count. <X3) I mean, wouldn't that be the FIRST thing you notice? Oh well.
Another adorable moment was in TP when you were a wolf and went and talked to Agitha outside and she was all, "Awww, a puppy!" That made me smile.
Also, how Makar in WW JINGLES when he walks! Oh my gosh it's like the cutest thing ever. I would seriously just run around the Wind Temple for a few extra minutes just to hear his little walk.

ok where to begin... on of my favorite things was WW link's face right before the pirates shot him to the forsaken fortress
when link get's "engaged" to princess Ruto, he doesn't even know what that means, and Ruto says, "Don't Tell my father"
waking up Talon with a Cucu
Ingo freaking out when you beat him in the horse race
beating minigames =)
talking to people with different masks in both MM and OoT
catching a fish in any zelda game
My favorite: getting a new item (Da da da daaaaa!)

i really liked in TP how if you tap A after you kill an enemy with a hidden skill, link will sheathe his sword like he just beat a boss, that made me smile =). i also really liked how you could pick up pieces of a sign ater it had been cut, for some reason i always really like that.

oh i remembered another one
cutting a sign into pieces and putting it back together with the ocarina XD
oh and the thing that really made me laugh, is in MM when you pick up the ocarina as a Deku shrub and you try to play it and its the Deku pipes! that surprised me big time!

I love in TP how when you talk to Epona as a wolf and she tells you that she still understands you and that she wants you to turn back into your true form. I had a major rush of affection for her. :)
Also, in LA, you know when Marin follows you around? Normally, when you attack the Cuccos, she's all "No! Poor hen!" but sometimes, she'll randomly be like "KILL IT! C'MON!! Oh, um..."

I also like it when you shoot Malo in the face with a sling shot. WHIPLASH.

My favorite little thing is the baby goron that has a shop in Kakariko Village in Twilight Princess. He is so cute that when i first talked to him I couldn't resist NOT buying anything, even though i didn't need anything he sold. I bought the milk.

In WW the little kid who never agnologes (spelling?) the snot coming out of his nose, or when you go to the pig peoples house later and they say the pigs were delicious and they named the last one after you... hoped that wasn't a sign... ;)

I like the dog that follows you around when you're in someone's house in Ordon Village in TP. It's also cute when Link picks the dog up.

The first time I enter the Ikana throne room in MM I put on the Captains Hat which triggers a very funny cutscene. I found that easter egg not knowing that you didnt have to wear the mask at that point. It was rather funny.
Another thing I love is found in TP. When Link is close to any cat or dog, they'll follow you and if you grab one, Link will hug it so tenderly. I thought it was a rather nice touch.

In OoT (and MM I think too), the fact that the Gossip Stones do different things depending on what you hit them with.

In TP remember when you get the wooden sword, and the kids tell you to use a spin attack? Well by some mistake I accidently used a spin attack on them and they ducked.O.O'

I love the fact that you can pick up and carry the small animals in Ordon.
I wasted so much time in TP just walking around with the cat, and occasionally the dog. I loved that too!!! Haha. :D
I also liked it that when you slashed at the kids (I forget the names. :/ ) In TP. They would dodge your sword all pro-like. Haha.
