View Full Version : Ocarina of Time Is Navi Annoying?

In my opinion, hearing Navi say "HEY" or "LISTEN", is probably the most annoying thing i've ever heard.
Plus, she says it like every ten seconds if you dont do what she wants you to do.

I vote that there should be a mute option for Navi. Don't you?

Navi is not annoying. With out her she could not help zelda find his way to the princess and save earth. She is a serious part of the game. I get annoyed when i hear people talking bad about navi.. Tingle too.

Yes, but if you beat the game already multiple times, you would automatically know what to do.

Not sure if you have done that on purpose but it's Link....not Zelda. I probably sound annoying right thar.

To be honest playing through OoT again recently, I don't think she s that annoying if you block out the "Hey....listen". I don't find her annoying then, It is just towards the start where she has to tell you how to do everything, Like open doors and when she is pointing out the obvious .

I have nothing to say to equal fifty characters other than that.

I dont think you sound annoying. Lots of people get mixed up with Link and Zelda....even though its pretty pathetic, no offense.

See, that the thing. Pointing out the obvious and frequent reminders of what to do, even though you know exactly what's going on, always gets on my nerves. I usually shut the sound off because I hate hearing Navi's voice....

Oh god she is annoying. HEY LISTEN! HEY LISTEN! EVERY FIVE MINUTES

Its not so much the constant "Hey's" and "Listen's" that gets on my nerves, because you can basically avoid pressing Up C and just not listen to what she has to say at all. The part that gets me, and I hadn't remembered how aggrevating it was until playing Master Quest a little bit ago, was how when she automatically tells you something, it takes forever. The game explains how to open a door, or a box, or use a weapon, through Navi, and the text goes by so slow that it really just makes me not want to even play.

I totally agree with you darklink. I just have the master quest. I think it would be better if Navi was only there when you wanted it...

Thank You, I said this above, I find it more annoying at the start when you pick up A Deku stick and she explains it to you, You pick up a deku nut she tells you how to use it, You find an item and she tells you how to use it and also at one point I believe she tells you how to open a door O.o.....I found that so annoying, You couldn't even avoid her saying it.

After playing Majora's Mask, as it turns out, Navi isn't really all that annoying. The only annoying thing is that she tells you the obvious (Except for bosses/enemies)....but she repeats it over and over again! Her "Hey," "Listen," "Watch out!" and such weren't that annoying.

I'm not trying to go off topic, but Tatl was more annoying with her bells and such. Navi isn't really that annoying when you think about it, but she makes a darn good parody character. ;)

Am I the only one who doesn't think Navi is annoying? I know it's used in a lot of fan-humor, but it's not really that annoying...

I found Midna more annoying in TP than I did Navi in OoT

I really didn't find her annoying. Her "Hey!"s and "Listen!"s I found amusing, and she's probably my favourite of the fairy sidekicks. I especially like how she follows you around, and how you can store and call her. I really thought she was a great addition to the series.

I suppose a lot of people's beefs with her are escalated based on the amount of times they have played through OoT. It seems the more they play it, the more annoying she becomes since she retreads information that's mainly essential to first-time players.

I have only played OoT once the entire way through. I have begun another file awhile back, and I've played through later parts of the game on friends' games, but otherwise, I've only done it the once. And even with starting a new file, it was many years after I completed the first file. Because of this, she never seemed to be repeating herself, or became annoying in stopping me when she wanted me to pay attention to something or where I should be going.

I know a lot of the game, but I don't know it like the back of my hand. So, I still need her to an extent as a "first time player". Therefore, I suppose she really hasn't had the time to get on my nerves.

I suppose my only annoyance with her is how she began the tradition of fairy sidekicks. I found every time there was a fairy sidekick I felt a bit gypped. I know other fairies had better character-based stories behind them, but I always found to an extent that it seemed the developers couldn't come up with a new design. Finally, someone came along and said "Let's just make them another fairy." So, my annoyance is that Navi started a trend of lazy sidekick visual designs, but even then, it's a small annoyance.

I don't find Navi annoying from about after you first meet Zelda as a child, After that she doesn't point of the clearly obvious, I mean.....come on.....How to open a door? O.o.....

Straying off of topic, I thought that Midna was by far the best sidekick, She was actually useful and you learnt about her history. She is a tad annoying at first but after you leave Ordon Village as a wolf and head to Faron I liked her, Now I like her from the start.

Navi was never useful except really for a few boss fights, Even then it isn't that hard to work out to do.

I suppose I should've clarified why I was annoyed with Midna. Her Character, I loved. It was the stupid fact that she was like the only character to have a full-time VA. Btw, was she speaking Japanese?

She was speaking jibberish, but some people claim they can hear certain phrases both in English and other languages burried within her dialogue. It's not a reversed language track as many believe either. Personally, I have never been able to hear any of the English phrases people say they are hearing.

I agree with Midna as a sidekick. She is the perfect example of what Navi should be.

Navi isn't that annoying when you first start the game, since she tells you what to do when you don't know what to do next. Navi did actually helped me during the game since I really dunno what to do next. I really can't tell you how much I was stuck in the game. Ocarina of time was a really hard game for me the first time around, but I was really disappointed in the last 2 dungeons since the puzzels were easy... Thinking of which I really want to play Ocarinca of Time again! =^_^=

I never found her as annoying as everyone said she was. Yeah, she always said "Hey! Listen!" and maybe in excess a bit, but it wasn't that bad in my opinion. I guess I learned to tune her out when I needed to.

I never really found her annoying seeing as how I have tolerance for partner characters and such. I mean yeah sure, after playing the game once or even twice you don't need her anymore and yet she keeps ranting to you to tell you what to do. I mean sure its nice that she tells you what you need to do; but really they did have to do it that often? Does she need to remind you every five minutes that you need to save Hyrule? I wouldn't think so.
Her "Hey" and the "Listen" were adorable in my thoughts, I mean she has a small sweet voice, that's so cute. When you target an enemy, she again says "Hey" ad sometimes I can swear she says "Look!" I suppose that's her own way of saying "I have something useful to tell you about the enemy!"
Then I always wondered, if she lived in the forest, how is it that she always knows everything about the enemies that are outside of the forest? Either way, again, I'm thinking too deeply about it. <3

I find Navi very annoying.
Part of the problem with Navi is that she's too helpful.
Another problem with Navi is that she bugs you all the time, which gets really annoying when you try to do a sidequest.

It seems to me, that Navi was created to help people who are new to playing video games, which would not be a problem if there was a option to turn Navi off.

I think that all the sidekicks are useful. Navi is not all that annoying, just think in all the times she and all the other sidekicks had told you pretty useful info.

Think how hard the game would be without those characters helping you in your first play...

Also, some of them have interesting stories, like Ezlo and Midna. They're there, helping you, because they need you for their own purposes.

Ok, that's just me. I know there are some Zelda gamers that had listened to the sidekicks too much, and they are tired. Just remember that we all have our oppinions.

I didn't mind Navi, I acutely found tatl much more annoying. I mean She robs you, hits you in the face and then insist on coming along with you, and shes a jerk the whole game. Navi on the other hand is much nicer.

I'll have to agree with you on this one. In fact, I did find Tatl more annoying than Navi, but alltogether, neither one was favored on my lists.

Navi is super annoying, if you don't listen to her she does not shut up. I hate that, I love OOT, but I hate Navi, she never did anything in the game for you, so I think that she is the most annoying character in OoT!

The first time, Navi is actually helpful because she knows what you have to do and you really don't.

The second and third time around is when she starts pushing your buttons, because you don't remember a lot of stuff from the first playthrough. But beyond that, she gets annoying. I mean, you know this stuff now and this fairy who interrupts you when she feels like it, saying "Hey" "Listen" is getting on your nerves. She repeats the stuff the majority of the time even though it's incredibly obvious when you get there. There's also the problem where she takes over your first person view and thus you either have to wait for her to finish or wait for her advice to appear. That's what I have to say about Navi.

She is annoying when you just want to play the game over or ignore the story to do something like the sidequests.

That is exactly how I feel. She should only be there when you actually need her. Like I said: Mute button!

We seriously dont need her for the basics, because we've all probably completed OoT several times, and need no help because we know what to do.

I do a lot of fan comics in which Link's ears bleed from Navi's ramblings, but I honestly don't think she's THAT annoying. I usually cannot tolerate her and get mad every time I play the game, though. Here's a re-enactment.

"Ok, finally, I made it to the end of the shadow temple!"
"Oh **** the boss killed me!"
"Oh well, let's get some fairies and come back"

5 minutes later.

"Ok, i'll play the Nocturne of Shadow to warp back..."
"Ok, i'm at the entrance."

Navi: "HEY LINK HAVE YOU PLAYED THE NOCTURNE OF SHADOW THAT SHIEK TAUGHT YOU YET"

"Yeah, i've played it twice already, you @$#%!!!"

I hate it when that happens^ Basically the only annoying thing about her is that her advice is never the advice I need, and repeats it over and over again, even when I've already done it.

Yes, she is annoying as hell Lol; especially in the first couple of dungeons! Listen! Press A to open this door, Listen! You can look around a corner by Z Targetting!

Annoying unless your a new player and actually benefit from her tips, but most of them is just common sense; i.e the door opening one lol; if you've picked up a video game controller before you'd probably know the main action button on the controller (In this case A)

i only find her annoying when i want to look around only to be interrupted by what useless information she has to say, though to be honest in all my life i've only had two playthroughs of the game, my first playthrough was on the original N64 version and the second one was on the 3DS version so upon my second playthrough i thought it'd be best to just use the weapons you aim in 1st person with like the slingshot, it works for me and because of it i don't get annoyed by Navi nearly as often

Yep exactly as I feel. I've played through the game about 20 times, and I genuinely want to kill Navi. It's like Nintendo assumes people will only play their games once or twice so they don't bother letting you turn off tutorials.

I've never found her that annoying. I like her voice, I think it's cute. Unless I'm already frustrated and annoyed by something else, her reminders never annoy me. I'm actually weirdly fond of her, the game wouldn't feel the same without Navi shouting at me, lol. Most of the time I kind of ignore her, though, so I don't have much else to say.

Flashback:
NAVI! SHUT UP

O.O I said SHUT UP.
Michael, we need to save Hyrule!
Ò_Ó *kills Navi*
Michael we need to...
*sits on her* >:)

Nope, never.

But anyway, I understand some people find it annoying that a fairy keeps telling us the same thing. I've just done the Biggorron's sword side-quest and she keeps telling me: MICHAEL, WE NEED TO SAVE HYRULE!!

But, actually this topic was bumped. So I don't know if it should be closed or not?

navi is the only reason i dont hate fi. Whenever fi states the ridiculously obvious and i start 2 dislike her a little bit, i just say to myself, REMEMBER NAVI!!! and all the hate goes away cuz i know this isnt the worse compainion legend of zelda throws at you, and i start to like fi a little bit more.

My first experience with Navi was when I was 4 years old watching my dad play through OoT. I never thought she was annoying at all. I didn't find Navi all that annoying. My first time playing the game I thought she was pretty helpful throughout the game. The other times I played the game, I was a little annoyed to hear what I already know, but I didn't mind it all too much. In all honesty, I think Navi is one of the less annoying helper characters in the series and I thought her advice was helpful for the most part.

Navi does not tell me when I'm running low on hearts... when I already know I'm low on hearts. She also does not tell me when my Wii Remote's batteries about about to die when I can clearly see they're about to die. She is therefore not all that annoying to me. In fact, I found her rather helpful my first playthrough of OoT way back in the day. Subsequent playthroughs, not so much, but she's no Fi.

I feel so disappointed whenever I see a thread like this or see a fellow Zelda fan complain about this. Navi is not annoying at all. Not at all. It's so over exaggerated it makes me sick. Navi's "Hey! Listen!" is not annoying at all, and if it bothers you so much just shut the volume off. And to the person who complains that she stops you too much for stupid things in the Great Deku Tree, I'd like to point out that she stops you for about four to five seconds tops. That's not long at all, and certainly not long enough to incite any ill-will. I'm sure you're not in that much of a rush.

In conclusion, Navi is not annoying. All of the ill-will and hate towards her is just nothing but tiny complaints that have been over exaggerated to the point that they look like a game-ruining experience. It's just like all the hate I've been seeing for Fi; she is not that bad.

I think Navi is pretty annoying, in the same way that every support character in the history of the Zelda series has been pretty annoying. I think it has been pretty over exaggerated, but having her stop you to tell you how a door works is pretty obnoxious. I personally don't feel that she is annoying enough to earn the reputation she has (that reputation should belong to that tiny subhuman freak, Midna).

Navi is simply not annoying. How often does the fairy truly intervene? Not very often. Only the disillusioned would find Navi to be annoying. What you truly have is one of the most memorable and caring supporting characters in franchise history. To be frank, an assistant such as Fi is much more annoying with her mechanical voice but even that's bearable. Navi is one of the most cherished characters from arguably most people's most remembered Zelda game and Ocarina of Time wouldn't be the same without her. Navi was a great step forward for the series and a template for future helpers and such frivolous and superficial matters don't deserve to tarnish her reputation. Ocarina of Time is a blueprint for perfection.
