View Full Version : What Would You Call Your Child?
Durion

I have not seen anyother threads on this so far and I thought it would be interesting to see some peoples answer.
Anyway back to the topic, As the title says what would you call your child or your children, Even though I am still young me and my friends already have ideas of what names we like.
For a boy I would call him either Neal or Paul (Both my brothers names) and I prefer Neal compared to Neil (Neal being the Irish spelling of Neil which is the English version). For middle names I would give him Colin (After my Grandad) or Andrew (Which is my first name). All these are the names that I like most for a boy.
For a girl I would call her either Elisa or Amy (Amy also being a name in our family), For a middle name I would give her Karen (After my mum) or Janet (Once again another family name).
So what would you call your child

I have decided that if I am ever stuck with a child (I don't really plan to have one), I'd give it a unique-sounding name. I am not fond of the oh-so-common, bland American names like "Melissa" or "Andrew" or "Samantha" or "Daniel" or stuff like that. Bleh.
For female names, we've come up with:
Italia or Sicily (my fiance is Italian/Sicilian), Josélleña (my middle name), Alejandria Daniela (after my best friend and my brother), Legendia, or Hylia.
For male names, we've come up with:
Alejandro Miguel (after my brother), Sicilio, Italio, or Legend.
I'd prefer to stick to a Hispanic name, but I'm very fond of "Hylia" for a girl.

Haven't thought of this at all. Let's see...
For a boy-Damen, Kai, or Eric
For a girl-Chrystal, Naomi, or Yuki
(Don't really want to have kids)

I suppose some underestimate the power of a name, but a silly name causes more hardship than needed for young children and the taunting is not appropriate or appreciated, which is why the names of which I like are not too unusual in meaning or of popularity. I appreciate names that reflect origin, as well as providing a positive meaning. The following names reflect the countries of origin of my ancestors:
Female
Evelyn Sofiya (desired wisdom)
Male
Liam Nelson (desired champion)
Smitie

After some thinking I came up with these names for a future child (I don't have childrenplans though). I want my kids to have a Dutch name, but not the standard top 10 names like Sophie (my sisters name :P), Anne, Lars or Tim. I don't want to give a name that sounds silly like Boas or Onky (I swear that I know people who are named like that D:)
Anyways here are my favourites for children names
Boy names
Mark
Rolf
Girl names
Mariska

Yeah, I'm terrible at the name game. And it is hard trying to find names with my last name. So, I'll just throw some things around and see where it takes me.
Guy
Christopher, jr.
Thomas
Timmothy
Girl
Alison
Marissa
Courtney
See, I'm not the greatest at the name game. I would just have to let the wife (If I ever find one) name them...
:.:Mikki:.:

Hehe.
If it was a boy, I would either name him Timothy or Anthony. (Timmy or Tony. =P)
Or, if it was a girl, I would name her Abby or Kelly.
This is a hard decision to make. I've always wanted certain names, but they're really just been random ones that I've liked. Lately, I've been thinking more about family names that I like.
Of course, that's if I were to have kids.
But these are probably my favourite family names at the moment.
Boy: Robert, David, Thomas, William
Girl: Alice, Elizabeth, Sara(h), Hannah

Oh geeze. I think I'd have to have the husband help me out XD
Uhm. I haven't given it much thought, really. But here's what I've come up with:
Boy:
Mark, Riley. Jack is okay, too.
Girl:
Aya, Jess.

Well, I haven't thought about it much, me being 15, but I have already come up with a name for a girl. Sedona, named after Sedona, Arizona. It's a beautiful name. :P

If everything goes as planned, my first born will be a boy, and he will take my name, that being Eric. My second will be a girl, and her name will be Lindsey. My third will be another boy, and I'm torn between naming him Kevin or Cody.

Well Im only 16 but in about 5-10 years Id love to have children, as for names there are not many names Id want but there are a couple I like. Unlike a lot of people on here I would prefer to have a normal/usual name but hopefully Ill get a mrs. and she may have some ideas. For me I like:-
Boy - Oliver (A cousin who looks exactly like me when I was 4), John (my name)
Girl - Olivia (A friend I have) - thats all I have at the mo
Yes I Know Oliver and Olivia :p

Well, I have idea. Although obviously I would have to consult with my wife whenever I do have kids. :P
I have several favorite names, and I'd probably consider these:
(Male)
Lester, Loki, Aster, Seth, Aaron
(Female)
Beatrice, Sherise, Lilly, Sasha, Kanna
I posted more in another thread about names. I can't remember all my favorites off the top of my head, so maybe check there? :P
I also might consider stranger names, but probably for middle name. I might even pick geeky stuff if it sounded normal enough. Sephiroth would be something I'd definitely consider, but a bit more for the religious meaning rather than the video game character. :P
The name "Norfair" (a location in the Metroid series) always struck me as an awesome name, although I'd never name my kid that. :P

Tehe I love threads like these.
When I was younger, I wanted to name a baby girl "Zelda Verity" but seeing as most of my zelda fettish has toned down... to the point of NOT naming my child after her. I've come up with this pretty name
"Castella Verity" and for short she'd be called Stella.
As for the male side, which I am destined to have only boys... as my fiance's side of the family is cursed.
I would like to name them. Anthony Alan, or Andrew Alan, or possibly even Zachariah (I've always liked the name Andrew and Zachie... but my fiance's brother is named Andrew and goes by Andy... which is a waste seeing as the name Andrew is so strong and wonderful... so I will probably never get to name one of my boyz Andrew v.v)

I was thinking Erin or Amy for a girl, and the only good one I was able to think of for a boy was Kade.
Well Let's see:
Boy
Alex. Or Alexei. I like Alexei most though. Don't ask me why. I would name my child that if I was in russia or Russian, but alas I'm not. I still like the name though.
Caleb too. Definitely Caleb if I can.
Girl
I don't really care about too much. I'd probably pick a horrible name, and just let my wife decide.

If it is a boy, Crassus, Cyrus, Locke, Cicero, or Demothenes.
If it is a girl, Alice or Marie.
As you can tell, I like boy names better. But even so, these are increasingly rare names.

Boys names:
Link - Pfft, i'm allowed one not so serious name, and i've been informed i'm not allowed to name a child of mine Billy Hillbilly Hill.....
Van - I just like the name.
Leo - Short for Leonis, the name I name all my random RPG characters that are nameable. That aren't Link.
Glen - Personal reasons I won't specify.
Sam - Also personal and unspecifiable.
Girls names:
Totally up to my future wife as long as they aren't something so horrible I couldn't bring myself to say said name.

When I Think of A name, if the child was a girl, the name "Persephone" Springs to mind. I think that was the name of a (greek) Godess, amrried to the god of the underworld.
I can't think of what to name a boy, though...

In this day and age, I really don't want to give my child a name every one and their mother has. I want to give it a unique and original name that very few people have. So far I tend to favor the Biblical names and names of historical people.
If it's a boy: Isiah (Biblical name, the Great prophet), Horatio (named after a famous Naval captian from the Napolean wars), Jebediah or Jeremiah, Jai, Xian, Johann and Leopald.
If it's a girl: Barbara ( like Streistand and Walters), June, Zara, Fatima, Sookie, Loralei, Angelynn, Evangline, Angela, Minerva (Roman name of Athena), Johanna, Mariah (a mountain in the Bible but the singer is exceptional), Ruby, and Margarita (nickname Rita)
Now all I need is a man...or adoption papers. Lol...

I dunno, I thought I had responded to this thread already...guess the bug is to blame, eh? Hehe :D
If I got married one day, not likely though, I'm too ugly :D --the kid would be named Rad.
If it was a girl, then I guess Shayla. Why? Because my favorite friend at my school was named like that, she's very special to me, I'd honor her by naming my kid like that. Why is she so special? She was what I call a true friend, someone unique, never met anyone like her.

I'd be careful to pick a name that people wouldn't tease.
Alexander seems like a good choice for a boy, while Alice seems like good choice for a girl. Having "A" names is also an advantage, because people who have them are usually placed at the front of alphabetical filing systems and some queues.

If it was a boy I would love his name to Daniel or his middle name or I would to name him Link. If it was a girl I would really love if her name was Wendy(for my mom) or Carmen(for My grandma, RIP)or Dannielle/Daniela or Zelda or Saria or Malon. but I know those videogame names won't come trough my wife. For Girls:
I looooooooove Greek Mythology and my name is Greek, (don't worry... I'm not Greek...) so I really want really cool Greek names
Trinity (first, wish I was named this, even though it's not Greek, well... I'm pretty sure it isn't!)
Athena (middle, there's a tradition in my family that for the first born daughter, you have to name her middle name with the same letter that starts with your first name)
Iris (first, love, love, love flowers!)
Alyssa (middle, love it because it seems like it's fresh and new)
Cynthia (first, but I just love this name)
Selena (first, sounds like my bff's cat''s name, which is Serina, but I also love Selena Gomez cause she does lots of charity work)
Amber (middle, I love the color)
Autumn (middle, it sounds so sophisticated to me)
April (middle, if she's born in April or something...)
Skye (first, makes me think of rainbows for some reason...)
Dawn (first, love the time of day)
Mei (first, if I really dare to give her a Chinese name...)
For Boys:
I really don't want to give a boy a Greek name because all of the ones I heard suck
Edward (first, I'm a twi-hard, I know)
Jacob (first, I'm a twi-hard)
Lucas (don't care, just like this name)
Cameron (don't care, like the name)
I'm not so sure on boy names because I'm really picky on what they mean and girl names sound more elegant to me.

Michelle or Sarah for a girl, Mike or John for a boy. I'd probably let my wife pick at the time but those names get my vote.
