I was thinking the other day and wondered if it's strange to try to play music from your favorite games on whatever instrument you play, and then I guessed it would probably be sort of normal as long as you played something that was not as archaic and just plain "Out there" as me and my bagpipes.
Anyways, do any of you guys play themes to games or movies or whatever on whichever instrument you play? I play the overworld theme from Zelda 1, plus a couple of Ocarina songs and the theme to Star Wars on the pipes. How 'bout you crazy musical people?

I don't think it's that strange... I commonly play music from Zelda and pieces from movies on piano. In fact, I rather enjoy playing some of the Zelda music, I'll commonly look for sheet-music, or just listen to a song from the game and try to figure out how to play it.
I rather like a lot of the music from Zelda, it's one of my favourite aspects of the series.

It's not strange. I can play Epona's Song on my Ocarina and Saria's Song on my violin. It's fun to play video game music. I'm trying to learn Destati -Dive Into The Heart- from Kingdom Hearts on Violin. Wish me luck! ;)

I play piano, and I love playing music from video games, anime, movies, and the like. I've learned how to play about 30-40 different Zelda songs on my piano, some Mario songs, Earthbound songs, etc. I just recently started playing themes from some of my favorite animes as well. I'm currently learning to play Life is Like a Boat from Bleach, Bratja from Full Metal Alchemist, and Every Heart from Inuyasha.

I personally don't see anything strange about it. It's music, and most of the time, very beautiful music that gets looked down upon simply because of where it came from. I say that because I know people who think that just because a song comes from a video game, it's not good.

One of my friends in school has a band that I'm a part of called "Gamers for Music." Its quite interesting, we have played Mario Underwater, Brinstar, Super Mario Star theme, Legend of Zelda theme, and now we're working on Super Mario Bros. Theme. I'm actually one of the best there (I think I'm perhaps the 3rd best out of the 6 there, besides the fact I'm a freshman, but I'm a decent saxophonist), concidering that the 3 trumpets can't pull off their line.

Okay. I suppose it's just that it's odd to play good music on an instrument that nobody else would think it would go on. I really like the Zelda music, and I think if music is good enough that John Feckin' Williams composes his own orchestration of it, it's probably good. I suppose it's mostly that I'm weird because I checked YouTube and other such sites, and as far as I can tell, and as far as I think anyone can prove, I'm the only person in the world who can play a theme from Zelda on the bagpipes.
It might be because bagpipers are generally not gamers. The closest thing I know is my instructor plays WoW. Other than that, I've hardly held a conversation with a bagpiper about video games for more than a few nostalgic seconds of looking back on how we both wasted our childhood playing Mario.

I play a lot of songs from video games and movies on the piano. I can play quite a few Zelda songs, most of which I figured out myself. I can play songs from a few other video games, like Final Fantasy and Mario, and I've learned the Star Wars main theme and the Imperial March (or Darth Vader's theme).

I think it is awesome to play songs from your favorite movies and games on an instrument.

I play piano and one if the first songs I learned was the "Imperial March (Darth Vader's Theme)." After I fell in love with Zelda I taught myself "Saria's Song" by ear. Shortly after I learned the "Star Wars main theme." I fell in love with Lord of the Rings and learned "In Dreams." It is a very special song to me.
I then learned one of my most epic pieces on piano, the "Pirates of the Caribbean Theme."

I started taking guitar lessons and just yesterday I looked up how to play the "Zelda Main Theme" and "Bolero of Fire." Both sound great so far. I might even record me playing them sometime.

I only got hold of Zelda songs just recently. They are for the clarinet, and I can mostly play them. So far, I am good at playing the Song of Healing, and Song of Time. ( the complete versions)

Definitely joined this site just to respond to this post haha

I've been a piper for a few years now and have also been searching around for zelda tunes transposed to the pipes. Haven't found anything: youtube, recording or even sheet music. I was pretty stoked to find this post!

I've tried piecing together pieces of the overworld theme but haven't had much success in getting the whole thing to sound "right". I've got some of the ocarina tunes down, but thats about it. If you've got any sheet music for the tunes, I'd be glad to check it out. I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only bagpiper out there looking for zelda tunes!

I can play what seems like a thousand songs from different Legend of Zelda games and a couple themes from the anime Naruto (and Naruto Shippuden) on piano. I can play a couple songs by Linkin Park and a lot of songs by Green Day and Three Days Grace. I can also play He's A Pirate from Pirates of the Carribean.

I can play some Banjo Tooie songs on my trumpet (I'm new to trumpet though). Other than that I can't really play any other video game songs on my trumpet or bass well I would be able to I just Don't have time to learn any. This summer I plan to learn some video game songs on both trumpet and bass.

I can play the Earth God's Lyric from Wind Waker on guitar. I used to know all of the Ocarina songs - ocarina notes only - but eventually forgot them.

I can play Ocarina and Guitar. I'm pretty good at flute, too, but we were forced to do that in 5th grade, so yeah...

I learned the Mario theme on my clarinet in grade school, and our school band even played a Harry Potter medley in one of our concerts (I had a solo -- I was so proud!). More recently, I've been transcribing Legendary Hero from Wind Waker on the piano by ear. ^^

I enjoy playing movie and game music on my ocarina (and sometimes the guitar- although I don't play that well enough). Most of what I play is Zelda, because that's the easiest to find for the ocarina, although I can play the Sailor Moon theme and the Addam's Family theme, as well. I think that game and movie (background) music in general translates to various other instruments better than, say, a song you would hear on the radio, especially for those of us who don't play 'mainstream' instruments.
