As the title says What is the game that got you gaming, Maybe on an old console game or in an arcade.
Mine is probably Pokemon Yellow, I remember I used to play on that game all the time, I was a huge Pokemon fan back then and it was all I used to play. It is not even the first game I played, I think that the first game I ever played was probably Diddy Kong Racing on the N64 or Mario Kart on the N64. I actually still own my original copy of Pokemon Yellow, I let my cousin borrow it until he finished it.
I am pretty sure that there is not a thread and I did not find one sooooo

Well, my first game was a Disney game for the GBC, but that didn't really get my INTO gaming. My first had to be Pokemon Blue. I found it in a hotel room and started playing, I was instantly hooked. I had over 150 hours on my first file. Gosh I have such great memories of that game.

I'm pretty sure it was Link's Awakening. Me and my brother were given an original Gameboy a long time ago, with a bunch of games. LA was with it, and me and my brother spent a lot of time getting through it. I was very young, but I managed to finally get to the egg and beat it. Ever since, I've loved Zelda and video games i general.

I think it was initially me watching my dad play games on the computer, and my N64 that got me into gaming. I played it (N64) practically every day with my friends when I was little, and loved the games I played on it. And I remember when I was like 3-4 years old, and I was playing games like Doom, Star Wars, and a bunch of other computer games with my dad. He didn't tell my mom about it, cause she would've been mad, but he let me play them all the time. =P
So playing games that I shouldn't have been playing with my dad, and my N64 got me started on gaming. What got me where I am now (geek who goes on the internet to talk about games >_>), was Twilight Princess. I had been interested in playing a new Zelda game since it had been so long, so I picked up TP. I played it, beat it, beat multiple times, and then I immensely craved Ocarina of time and Majora's Mask (which I had gotten rid of). So I bought those, played 'em, beat 'em, and then somehow got on the internet and found some Zelda fan sites. Which got me into waiting for Nintendo news, playing a bunch of other Nintendo games, etc.
So yeah, that's how I became a gaming geek.

I played a lot of games on Commodore 64 and a local computer system called "Nabu" in the early 80's, but the big push for me to get into gaming was the original Super Mario Bros and Legend of Zelda for the NES. I told a similar, abbreviated story in the "What got you into Zelda" thread, but essentially, my friend had the system with these two games (and Duck Hunt, I believe...) and they were just so exciting.
My love for those games extended beyond all of my friends' interest in them, and I soon becamee known at school for being a major video game fan. As a side note to this, I used to even get calls from friends of friends asking for video game help sometimes, which was kind of weird because sometimes I never knew those people...

My first game I ever had was on a floppy disk. I don't remember the name of that game, but it was so awesome that I played it so often that it eventually crashed.
It wasn't the game that really got me into gaming though, that was pokemon Red. It was the first game that was actually mine (so i didn't have to share it with my sister) and I was so proud of it, that I even hid it in a jar so that my sister couldn't play it :xd:.
Pokemon Red. ;)
But Mario vs. DK 2 sorta renued my passion for gaming many years later. Not the most obvious of titles. I know.

My dad had bought a used car from a dealership, and when I was digging around in the seat pockets I found Pokemon:Crystal. I already had a GBA, but the only game I had for it was some Pac-man special edition game, so I didn't play it too much. So I just popped Crystal into my GBA, and soon after, I became hooked.

It must have been Super Mario Bros or Ice Climber, guess I must have tried it over at a friends house. But I am not sure, this wasn´t yesterday, it was a long long time ago
Pokemon Red as well. :)
I think it was when I was....4? 5? somewhere around there. Got it, happiness ensued.

Super Mario Land for Game Boy and the Super Mario Super Show are what got me into gaming.
Here's a quick story, when I was about 4 years old I locked myself in a hotel room, playing Super Mario Land on my Aunt's Game Boy.
My Mom was scared that I was locked in the hotel room, while I was busy playing Game Boy,with no care in the world.
Interesting way to get in into playing video games.:)

Hmm, the first game I remember playing a lot was Combat for the Atari 2600. But the game that cemented gaming in as my hobby was probably Super Mario Bros. 3.

Super Mario All Stars. I played the Super Mario bros game and I wanted more SNES games after that. I felt so good about myself when I finally finished the game. It took over a year though ^^

It would be the first Super Mario for me, that i played at a friend's place. that was the very first console game i played. So i decided to save money to buy my own console when i was a kid, and well, as a kid money saving takes a really long time. But after the N64 came out, then i didn't wanted the SNES anymore and continued saving money until i owned a N64.

Super Metroid on the SNES. First video game I ever played. Loved them ever since.
Thinking back on it, that was a good game to get introduced to video games with. Even today, that's one of my favorite games. ^^

I'm going to be perfectly honest whenever I say Ocarina of Time. It was one of my first video games, and it just wowed me. Well, I was only around 8 at that time so I guess it didn't really wow me. It was more of a, "Did you see that thing explode and that giant eyes and those spiders and the burning webs!" sort of thing.
Eh... I can't remember the name exactly. I think it was The Lone Ranger or something like that. For the NES. I was like two or three at the time.

Super Mario Bros.
My parents originally bought a NES for my sister. Yet she hardly ever played on it. A few years later I was born. :P In a sense I kinda grew up with the NES. He was like a friend to me, someone who understood my feelings, y'know? Oh yes, we talked for hours. Words like "brah", and "goo-goo" were no exception. Then something terrible happened: my parents sold the NES. I cried for days, weeks even. Until they bought me a SNES, that is... ;)

Yeah, either mariokart64 or pokemon yellow. . . not sure which came first.

I have no idea what happened to our NES. One day when I was looking for it, it was just gone. I know it wasn't stolen. Because that never happens in that tiny town. It is a mystery... I was upset. But then soon bought me a Game Boy for Easter in 1994. And with it, Link's Awakening. But that's another story.

Hmmmm what got me into gaming? I have a combination of what got me into gaming. When I was like 3-4 years old id play my grandmas SNES/NES, and I loved it. I remember always teasing my big sister because she was horrible at Duck Hunt :P. There was another game I played but I can't remember the name of it for the life of me...but I found it really fun too.
On the other side of things, my aunt had a Sega Genesis, and I used to play Sonic Spinball (really a great twist on pinball) and Sonic 2. I remember we would spend like 5 hours at her house ont he weekends and Id be in the basement sitting on the floor playing Sonic.
ALSO arround this time was when I got my N64. I played the crap out of that thing. I mean from using my allowance for renting games for my freinds/movie stores, to sneeking up late at night to play, all I have is good memories with that thing. As I have stated in other threads, me and my friends used to have SSB/Mario Kart tournaments for candy or whatever we had.
So I guess Mario Bros on the NES got me started gaming, but multiple other things got me hooked. The N64 was like the final nail that made me a gamer.

Donkey Kong Country. Not the SNES version though, the GBC remake. It wasn't the first game I played, but it was the first good game I played. I got it for Christmas in 2000 and quickly became addicted to eating bananas and jumping on crocodiles.
For me it wasn't a game, but rather my N64. Sure, I had played the Nes, but that was only like SMB/2/3 and AoL.
With my N64 I ended up with about 9 games, so I had spread out a little bit. I'm not a huge gamer, so, for me 9 games is a lot. :P

Our cousins had an NES at their house and we'd play it there. After that, my Dad gave us a choice of a NES or a Sega, we chose NES.
That's also when the Nintendo fanboyism began.

Sonic the Hedgehog for Sega Genesis.
Lots of good memories there, first video game I ever played. Me and one of my best childhood friends would play Sonic 1 and 2 every day, and this was when we were like...4/5? By the time we were 6/7 years old we almost beat the game, Chaos Emeralds and all. We never did beat it, but we got pretty close. I still haven't beat it...and I don't talk to him much anymore, he had to move a while back. I guess I owe it to him that I'm a core gamer. Otherwise I'd be...NORMAL. O_o

The first game that got me hooked was for N.E.S. and it was called RYGAR. I would play it daily, it didn't have a save option so I was restarting it over and over. No matter how early I'd start to play I would get stuck against the same boss. :xd:
That faded, and once I was out of it, I was out of games, till one Saturday morning. When I saw a Nintedomanía walktrough to release the carpenters from the Gerudo Fortress, inside of me grew a lot of interest for that game. I keep on seeing the Tv Show, if only to see more of this game. I learnt then what was it called so I could ask it for a birthday present.
This game is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time!

For christmas a long time ago (I think I was 8-9), when GameCubes first came out, I asked for a purple GameCube. I got the system and it came with Super Mario Sunshine. I fell in love. It was like a new world had been revealed! Needless to say, I played oot a few short months after on my bro's N64 and fell twice as hard in love ;)

Watching my dad play video games on the play station when I was about 4 or 5. It was a Teen rated fighting game and some times I would play it on my own. Pokemon red was my first personal game that got me into video gaming. Never completed it because it was in Japanese.... still have it though!

The first video game I ever played was Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the Sega Game Gear. My father actually purchased the Sega Game Gear around the time of my birth, along with Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and a few other games. After new handhelds were released, he eventually handed the Game Gear down to me.
It really was addicting growing up, because at that age (being around 5 years old), the puzzles were incredibly challenging that it kept me drawn in until I could complete the game. My introduction to gaming was through Sega and Sonic, and quite frankly - I still think it is a good game, because if it wasn't I probably wouldn't have kept an interest in gaming and the gaming community. The first few games after that were Mario, Donkey Kong, and Pokemon titles.

Definetly Zelda OoT. It was the very first game I ever played. It was so good that it was the best game I have ever played in my life. Ever. Of course, I also had the original Mario Party, and Glover. They gave my gaming gauge a little boost.

The first game that I played was Ocarina of Time on the Nintendo 64, I use to watch my oldest brother play for countless hours, solving all the puzzles by himself, then I got into the Legend of Zelda series, and played Majora's Mask.
Ocarina of Time was such a legendary game, I played it for many hours a day, even thought I only ever got up to Dodongo's Cavern, then I'd restart, or I'd just ride on Epona in my brother's save file. Ocarina of Time got me into playing games, then I played things like Mario Party and Pokemon Blue, Red & Yellow.
I'll never forget the first time I defeated Ganon in my own save file, I can remember from right here what clothes I was wearing, what today it was, and how great I felt.

Well, there were two games that got me into gaming. First was that, when I was six, I got a Yellow GameBoy Color with Pokemon Yellow and Pokemon Pinball. Those got me into gaming, but my cousins had/still have a N64 and SNES. I didn't much care for the SNES (I kinda do now, but I'm kinda 800 miles away from them...), and I would play on the Nintendo 64. The games I mainly played were Super Mario 64, Pokemon Stadium, and Donkey Kong 64. I would play them, even though I had no idea what the heck I was doing. I remember Bowser's intimidating laugh would scare me. Sadly, at the time, I didn't even think of picking up a Zelda game. >.> I didn't think that they were "colorful" enough, or wasn't as exciting as the Mario games. Then, in '07, I bought a N64 off of a friend, and it came with Ocarina of Time. I played it, I fell in love with it, I joined Zelda Dungeon, and look at me now!

The game the got me into Gaming was Pokemon Ruby. I remember turning it on, seeing a Zigzagoon and thinking "What the heck? Is this like that fake Pokemon game I bought? (Pokemon Jade and Pokemon Diamond- The Latter name was taken for the 5th Gen game)".

My first game was Pokemon Blue, me and my older sister both got a gameboy, and she got Red and Super Mario Bros Deluxe and I just got Blue. I had no idea what I was doing at first, I remember evolving my Bulbasaur (who I picked because it was the first ball I tried) into an Ivysaur on Route 1 cause I had no idea where to go:lol: Somehow I managed to understand it and I got to Cinnibar before something happened & I had to restart. But I had gotten Red too at this point & got to the Elite 4, but couldn't beat them.
Then I got Pokemon Yellow, the first game I beat from start to finish, I remember the joy I felt when I beat Gary at the end. This is the game that I consider the one that truely got me into games, with Blue just kickstarting a love of the Pokemon games.

I started gaming as a very young lad, playing Super Mario Bros. for the NES, and Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Genesis. The Nintendo was technically my sister's, but I still played it when I could. From there, I moved on to Super Mario Bros. 3, but the really big thing that got me into gaming hard was the Sega Genesis.
When I finally got my own system, which was the Genesis, Sonic 2 came with it. I was about 4 years old at that time, and learned everything about that game. To this day, I still have every level mapped out in my head, and will take the level select code to my grave. From there, I just played Mortal Kombat and Sonic a lot. I also played Link's Awakening on the Gameboy as much as I could.
So really, it was a combination of a lot of games at once. The Sega was the big hit, but it started with the NES and GB. Good ole Mario and Zelda. (and Tetris too).

The game That got me into Gaming is... The Legend of Zelda(Original)
By the time i was 6, My dad gave his NES to me on my birthday.(i have absolutely no idea how or when he got it.)
At first i thought it was a piece of junk , but it turns out it was really fun and addictive. i loved the excitement, the unexpected tough opponents, the creepy Old man (i was 6, sue me).
Today i still can't believe it still works. :S (It was even more freaky when my N64 Didn't break for 12 year even though i hacked it numerous times)
The Legend of Zelda was the spark that made me love video games.:)

I'm quite surprised at the number of people who got into gaming because of Pokemon. I was never a fan of that series, possibly because I was too old for the target demographic at the time of its release, or possibly because I worked in a comic shop that sold the cards, and was driven batty by the amount of people buying them. :)
Regardless, despite my dislike for the series, I am glad that is seems to have reached a certain audience and brought so many people into the fold of video games. I find that quite impressive.
(And just to clarify, I am by no means saying anyone here is wrong in liking the series, it's just not my thing!)

my first system was the SNES and after a few years, man my library grew... aside from that was the sega genesis and that was cuz my cousin had it... so my first games were Super Mario World and Sonic the Hedgehog...
so those got me into gaming but i also had a game called Mystic Quest by Square (when they were Squaresoft) and this game got me really into adventure games... but soon after that i got Crono Trigger and this is the very first game that completely blew me away it is the only game that i compare to the Zelda series when it comes to story, adventure, and feeling. Then came Mario RPG and after that i knew i was an RPG player

The first game that got me into game was, of course, The Legend of Zelda for the NES. I got it when I was very, very young. I was almost 2 years old (yes, YOUNG), but I could comprehend things and speak well. Of course, my dad helped me (a lot) and read it to me. He even read the instruction booklet to me so that I'd understand the story. It sparked my love of the series as well as gaming in general... probably because it's a fairytale, and I was and still am very fond of them.

Oh, mine was, without a doubt, Mario64. I got an N64 when I was 8 and never came off the thing. *hugs N64* good times, good times. We got Turok2 and Lylat Wars with it too, they were awesome.
Jet Force Gemini. Nobody I talk to has ever heard of that game, but it remains one of my favourites to this day. There are few things quite as satisfying as the boom of a tri-rocket launcher and the splat of rainbow blood. It was the very first video game that I bought with my own money.

Shining force, or sonic the hedgehog on my Sega megadrive :). I used to love Sonic massively. I bought like all his games, and the best sonic game, to this day is sonic and knuckles. LOVE KNUCKLES! Also, Shining force was my best game of all time until like 3 years ago when I discovered MC.

It was probably Legend of Zelda Ocarnia of Time, I still see it as one of the best games of all time to this day.

Oooh let me think...
Pokémon is the big one of my childhood, Blue in particular, and Squirtle as my first Pokémon. From that pretty much stems everything Nintendo-wise, I got a N64 for Pokémon Stadium, played a few other Nintendo games, wasn't much of a giant fan, but then I saw Pikachu was in this new "Super Smash Bros. Melee" game, got a Gamecube for it, and that began my love for Nintendo pretty much.
Outside of that though I usually played my Mega Drive (Genesis) as a kid, and I fondly remember Sonic the Hedgehog, Toejam and Earl, Ecco...
Oh and the game that pretty much got me interested in the English language as a whole (as in Literature and the like) was Final Fantasy VII.
Yep, I played the game with terrorists, swearing and cross dressing when I was a little kid. Funnily enough I didn't complete it until last year, heh.
So yeah the big three are probably... Sonic Jam (it was a compilation of the first 3 on the Sega Saturn and it was brilliant), Pokémon Blue and Final Fantasy VII.

The game that got me into gaming has to be the best Zelda ever (OOT and TP fanboys look away now) Wind Waker!

Well my first game would have to be this horrible pathetic degrading Barbie Genie game for GameBoy Advanced... I cringe at the thought of it now, after experiencing amazing games like Pokemon Blue and Super Mario and of course, Ocarina of Time *cough OoT>WW cough* ^_^ lol I have nothing against WW! Just my opinion.

Um. Replaying Majora's Mask got me INTO gaming, before that I was already playing games. Before replaying it, I wasn't all that into games, I just played some Pokemon games and stuff, but after I replayed MM, I joined Zelda communities and stuff. So yeah.
Also.

The game that got me into gaming was either Super Mario Land for the Gameboy or Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the Sega Genesis. The only other game that I can think of that got me into gaming is Pokemon Blue version. I played that game for hours and hours. Too bad I lost it.

I believe it was Super Mario Land. First game I ever played and I played it addictively. I think. I can't remember how old I was when I played it nor do I remember if it was actually my first game ever. But I think SML was my first game and the game that brought me into the world of gaming.

Well my first video game I ever owned was actually two; they were named "Elf English" and "Lilo and Stich: Trouble in Paradise" . They were both for the PC, and the elf one was an english learning program for kids. I never reallly learned anything from it....The lilo and stich game was an adventure game, but I could never finish it and gave up on it a long time ago. Even though I do not play these games, they were still my first video games I have ever gotten.
The only game that got me interestedin video games was Spirit Tracks. Ever since then, I have been a video gamer. :P

I got into gaming when I got a DS and Pokemon Diamond for Christmas three years ago. I loved playing it, and sereously got about 350 hours of play into it before I lost it.
Then, my brother's friend Anthony lent me PH, which introduced me to the Zelda series.

Ah, yes. Lego Star Wars. That was actually my first, I had the computor version when I was 6 or something. But I actually don't think it counts for me, since technically, correct me if I'm wrong, it was a computor game.

I have memories of when I was about 4 years old and sitting on my dad's lap playing pac-man, galaga, asteroids, and tempest on his computer. I was always around computer games, and when I was a little older I got a 64 and GameCube. I was given an NES from a family friend when I was 9 I think because they found it and knew I always wanted one. I got a DS when I was 10 and a Wii last April. The game that did it was probably Pac-Man and then that showed me Nintendo was totally Super Mario 64.

I started playing video games every since I when I can remember things. (Age 3-5)
One day, my father brought in the NES gaming console, and I was all like, "What's this daddy?" Played some Mario and then Bam! Started playing Sonic, Final Fantasy, Legend of Zelda, Mario, Fire Emblem, Castelvania, etc.
But what game that really got me into gaming? It would be the Mighty Bomb game for the NES. I enjoyed it so much that I explored some more. :3

Probably the original Super Mario Bros. for the NES. I had Atari games before that, but I'm not sure I would count those, since I don't remember a lot of them and they didn't make a big impression on me. On the other hand, my dad and I played the Mario games together, with a little friendly competition (though I was young, so he usually beat me) so I remember them fondly.
I had a huge gap in my gaming years, and then the Zelda series brought me back into playing again - specifically, replaying the original Legend of Zelda. :)

It was Pokemon Gold, my friend showed it to me once when I was younger and loved it. He let me borrow every now and then, and then a few years later he sold it to me.

My first video games were Donkey Kong Game and watch and Pac-Man. I enjoyed these but Mario Bros. 3 really got me into gaming.
Ocarina of Time and Mario 64 got me into gaming. They are still some of my favorites. Mario 2 and 3 also get honerable mentions.

Well... there were many games that I played before I was seriously into gaming. Super Mario Bros, Astro Blaster, Mortal Combat... etc. But, going back I would have to say Gun Star Heroes for the Sega. I used to just play games just to have fun. Then, one day I say down and though... "I'm gonna get as far into this game as I possibly can." In this game, could play singular or co-op to be this rad little man with all sorts of guns. You would travel through a city, through the sky, and then through... I'm not sure what it was but I think it was space to fight bad guys and bosses. To my surprise, I surpassed my siblings and cousins, who were also into that game, and beat the entire thing. I couldn't believe it! It was the first time I had ever gotten to the end of the game! After that, though, I didn't take another game seriously until Mario Kart 64.

First arcade game:

Pac-Man. Coincidentally, Pac-Man came out July 1980, making it exactly as old as me.
First console game:

Popeye, by Shigeru Miyamoto. Fun fact about Popeye: Nintendo lost the rights to the characters Bluto, Olive and Popeye when Miyamoto was in the planning stages to create Popeye 2. He replaced those characters with Donkey Kong, Pauline and Jumpman (later renamed "Mario"), respectively. Makes you think how the gaming world would look like today if Nintendo hadn't lost the rights to Popeye.

My sister owned an original Game Boy, our two primary games were Super Mario Land and Donkey Kong. I remember being all excited when she let me play, despite the fact that I had no idea what I was doing. My dad also introduced me to Pac-man and various arcade games around this time, a game that he was obsessed with for a while. My cousins also owned a SNES, so we would sneak away from family gatherings to play Super Mario World. Later on, I got my own Game Boy color and Pokemon Red, which kind of 'solidified' my interest in gaming. Zelda came into the picture later on and I only recently beat those first two Game Boy Games :bleh:
