The Temple of the Ocean King

I have about five minutes past the yellow portal when I first find out about the Phantom Sword. I have to go deeper into the temple to find the first chart to find the first metal.

I keep running out of time. Should I go back and try to complete the first part quicker? Or is five minutes enough?

That should be more than enough time. Make sure to camp the hell out of safe zones, kill as many of the enemies as you can, which will open up secret chests, and look for golden pots. They help oodles.

I'd go back through the temple and try to get a better time. Especially if it's your first time playing the game. So I suggest you go back through the portal, and then make it back to the halfway point with more time to spare. I suppose it depends on how well you know your way around though.

Right. Make sure to figure out the quickest ways through each floor. Don't be afraid to scribble all over your map with notes. Most floors can be completed in mere seconds. In fact, the ideal time in completing the whole temple is with no time spared.

True story. You can finish the whole thing without wasting a second of sand.

Also, when you go back into the Temple of the Ocean King with new items, try to use them as much as you can, cause sometimes, they open alternate passages, or help to complete each floor's puzzles faster

Oh really? That's convienient! I'm at the Ice Temple now. I'm afraid I'll be making a new trip the the Temple of the Ocean King very soon... -_-;

Yeah, the new items can help you finish a room twice as fast. I suggest trieng to get some more sand. Or using the guide at http://zeldadungeon.net It really helps. I got 0:00 as my yellow portal time^^.

if you don't have the phantom sword yet get the flame sword ,from leaf, you can stun phantoms for a long time by slicing there back
