Yeah, I admit it, I'm one of the nerds who likes 8-bit styled music. Its true, and I've got two soundtracks of them (One of the original LoZ and a song from 1943: The Battle of Midway). I'm just curious, is there any other nerds out there who adore 8-bit music as much as I do?:nerd:

I loves me some 8-bit gaming music. Nothing says video games more to me than some wonderfully catchy MIDI theme from the NES.

I quite often find myself looking for downloadable 8-bit or even some 16-bit music. I also search youtube as there is some poplular songs converted to 8-bit. Its pretty cool. Me and my friend actually download it onto our PSPs and listen to it while walking (lol). Its awsome listening to music from classic games.

Adore I guess would be a to strong word for how I feel about it! But I really enjoy some of the tunes, like the ones from Super Mario, Metroid, AoL etc. 8-bit was and is great imo!!

Also, one thing that makes me get hooked to Harmony of Dissonance for the GBA is that it has 8-bit music! The Sky Walkway theme is so jaw-dropping! I love this game more and more every time I pick it up

I love love LOVE 8-bit musik. Sure... it is canny sounding and old and some tunes can be annoying but I just love the 8-bit mario and Zelda musik. There is something about the sound of it that I love. I almost wish games would use 8-bit musik ^^

I'm a big fan of 8-bit music, as long as it sounds like music. There's some lesser quality games where it just sounds like beeps and boops, and it's very poor. Quality titles though (like Nintendo's first-party titles) are fantastic. I currently have playlists on my iTunes of Legend of Zelda, Adventure of Link, Mega Man 2, Mega Man 3, Metroid and Metroid II. I'm always looking to get more of games I enjoy, and the playlists are good to kill 10 or 15 minutes because there's really not that much music in the 8-bit games compared to modern games.

I find it pretty cool that in the days of the NES they could manage to make music fun to listen to with only three or four sounds going on at once. They could usually get a bassline, a drumline, and some sort of lead rhythm going on and that was about it, but despite that, we still got rockin' themes I still enjoy headbanging to like in Ninja Gaiden, or very well orchestrated pieces such as the soundtrack from LoZ or the first few FF games. Looking at their music, I'm actually really impressed that they could find out such ways to make it sound so good with so little going on because my favorite part of music is harmony. When I'm singing and it's harmonizing with two or three other parts, there's some feeling in the back of my throat that is probably the coolest feeling ever. Then you can add an accompaniment and compliment that even further and you can have harmonies to the accompaniment and realistically, you could have like forty instruments with your eight part harmony chorus and if you did it right, I bet you could make it sound really good, but that's with so much. These guys had a system that at the time was top-of-the-line, but now you can put songs into Guitar Hero with more things going on than they could, and it's just cool to see how so small a thing could go so far.
Umm off the topic of gaming, but on the topic of 8-bit.
You should try listening to an artist called Unicorn Kid.
He does such good 8-bit/techno.

I like some 8-bit music, but I generally prefer the old Game Boy music to the NES 8-bit. The only NES song I really like a lot is from the Japanese Final Fantasy II... the one from the castle in Altair.

Video game music in general is amazing but when you take it back to the roots like 8 and 16-bit compositions you can clearly and quickly understand the fundamentals of this inspired genre. 16-bit is more to my liking but again there could be no 16-bit without those 8-bit wonders like megaman, metriod, Zelda and a whole library of other classic games featuring what are now the original chiptunes. 8bitpeaoples and 8bitcollective are great sites for this kind of music (chip tunes that is) and feature various artists from around the world.
One game in particular really defines the genre for me... no it's not Zelda lol But it is a Nintendo classic and one of Natsume's best RPG's in my opinion and that's the Lufia series. Specifically the one for GBC, Lufia the Legend Returns. I have the Soundtrack for the whole game which is nice.
I plan on going to NY at some point for their annual blip fest to see what that's all about... hmm Toronto also has a big chiptune scene and it's even bigger over in the UK by my guess. Ever since LSDJ and Nanoloops has been made available it has become a huge genre with with a giant fan base (pretty much the entire gaming community) and just as many aspiring dj's and artists.
Sometimes I even like to mess around on those programs and make a little melody or beat with a GameBoy emulator, but it's actually quite difficult! and the pros are very skilled these days.. =) making bass on Gameboy is awesome!!!
