Name sequels that you were looking forward to that you thought were a letdown when you saw them.
I'll start by saying that Spider-man 3 was a huge letdown.
They tried to do too much and they made Spider-man look emo.

Can we do prequels too?

The Star Wars prequels were more than disappointing. The action was way too cheesy, and the young Darth Vader bored me to death.

Well... Terminator 3-Rise of the machines was a major let down... the first Terminator and the second ones where awesome

Yes you can do prequels, and I agree the Star Wars prequels were a letdown.

Yes, definitely Star Wars! Most sequels I have ever seen have been terrible. Exceptions would be LOTR, Toy Story 2, and Prince Caspian. Oh and the Bourne movies. Let's see...a really terrible one...Spiderman 3, definitely.

I always love the idea of sequels, to continue stories, but most of the time, the story does not need to be continued.

Anne of Green Gables 3-The Continuing Story. The other Anne of Green Gables were amazing and well directed. This one was very violent though and I for one, am against violence. Though it was greatly directed just had so much more potential.

Lets see: Majority of all Disney movies (Pirates of the Carribean being my ONLY exception), and SpiderMan 3. That is all I can say for the moment.

I second Disney sequels (especially The Land Before Time.)

I'd also like to mention Mortal Kombat 2: Annihilation.

Midna666
02-03-2009, 01:48 AM
Yeah Mortal Kombat2 was a huge let down.:(
Rush Hour 3 was pretty bad.
Shrek 3 was a waste of time that I'll never get back.

I do not know if it is the worst but there is a sequel to a nice movie namely: Carlitos Way. The sequel looks so bad that I will never ever consider look at it! I hate when they change the main actors, it is a good indication though (of something bad).

I've never really encountered any bad sequels. I've watched many that just weren't as good as the originals, but they still weren't bad. The closest ones to being bad IMO, was LotR. I really enjoyed the original, but I didn't care for the second one at all. The third one was better than the second, but still not as good as the first.

I'm gonna have to disagree with the majority of people who disliked the Star Wars prequels. I actually loved em. Part 3 was my favorite.

*MK: Annihilation was horrible
*Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 - Was kinda kool, but didn't compare to the first
*TMNT 3 - Was flat out crap. Had kool toys tho.
*Pumpkinhead 2 - Didn't have anything to do with part 1. Was such a bad film once I got old enough to realize it.

-The Mummy: Tomb ofthe Dragon Emperor: pfffttt that one was HORRIBLE!!! 1st-They change O'cconel's wife 2nd-They put that good-for-nothing son in the movie 3rd.It had a lot of sexual content compared to the other two.

-The Exorcist 2: Gosh that THING was horrible!!

-Shrek 3: In my opinion was REALLY boring.

oh yeah and MK 2 :anihilation: I almost faint of how bad that sequel is

Well, being a Star Wars geek I can't say the prequels since I actually like them. I can see people not liking Episodes I & II but I absolutely love episode III. I'd say all disney sequels (except for maybe...Lion King 3...taht one was very funny lol), Superman IV, Superman Returns (kinda, mostly because of the time facts screw ups...aka...superman's son...wtf) Batman Forever, Batman & Robin (oh god why...), Shrek 3, MK: Annihilation, Matrix Sequels, Spiderman 3, Catwoman (well, not technically a sequel, more of a spin-off from the Batman franchise)

The Matrix Revolutions. Reloaded wasn't bad, it just didn't the "WOW, I've never seen that before!" that the first Matrix had. But how are they going to solve the cliff hanger of Reloaded and end the War with the Machines?

Neo: Hey, can you stop this war?

Machines: Okay.

*Neo uses kung fu in air, dies*

There, I summed up the entire movie. Never have I been so let down.

I actually didn't care for Pirates 2 and 3. The first one was awesome, and I can watch it over and over again without getting tired of it. PotC 2 was okay, and I still enjoy watching it. But 3 was only good the first time around. I laughed like crazy in the theatre when I first saw it, but the next time I watched it, it didn't seem like anything special.

I liked all the Star Wars movies, including the prequels. Not the best movies ever, but they were okay.

Disney sequels ftw. Like Amelie mentioned, Inspector Gadget 2 was... Poo. Only a few disney sequels are actually worth watching.

The Mummy 3 was a bit of a let down too.

I've got a list of crappy sequels in my brain somewhere, but I don't have the time to fish through it right now...

I was the complete opposite actually. I thought the first and second movies were okay, but nothing special. Whan I watched 3 for the first time, I loved it, and I still like it to this day.

Disney sequels? Yeah, they're almost always horrible the Little Mermaid 2, Aladdin 2, Mulan 2, the list goes on and on, but they were never as good as the first ones.

Notice how the original Disney films (Mainly the old ones and the Disney Renaissance) are very original. When compared to their "sequels" that were made a good 5-15 years later, the sequels lack a significant plot (With the exception of Pirates of the Caribbean) and are pretty much just repeating a lot of the plot. Sometimes, such as Little Mermaid 2 (Please don't ask, I was very young), all they did was just twist the plot. Cinderella's sequel had nothing to do with the original plot. Face it, Disney sucks at sequels.

I have to agree that Diseny Sequals are crap... I saw Pirates as one big movie in 3 parts like back to the furture. Tmnt 3 is bad. Star Wars ep 1 sucks and me and my friend ryan hated ep 2 but 3 on part with 4 5 and 6. All of the Matix sequals were bad and kinda ruined it. Jurassic park 3 was pretty sucky... however that whole series is goofy anyway. Spiddy 3 sucked because the dicurtor hated venom...

I am quite surprised no one has mentioned Scream yet, werenīt there a bunch of them? Me myself didnīt even like the first. And we shall not forget the halloween movies and the friday the 13th (are they called so in english?). We also have the shark movies etc. I guess the only sequel that was better then the first is Godfather 2, awesome movie and a good exception of the rule that sequels must be worse.

Then again most 3-D movies are bad anyway.

There are plenty of exceptions to that rule:

Terminator 2
The Empire Strikes Back
The Dark Knight
X2: X-Men United
Spider-Man 2

Those are some and I'm sure other people could give some more and opinions are always different.

I guess I should said that to my knowledge only one sequel is better then the prequel, would be more clear :) And I guess if I thought about it I could come up with some more myself! I never watched The Lord of the Rings series but wasnīt the second movie better then first in many peoples opinions? (I really need to see those movies!)

my biggest let down for sequels is the pirates of the carribeen 2 and 3. the first was ok and you can understand it but the 2 and 3 i just got lost and didn't understand any of these two movies

All disney movies excluding pirates (which is one of my favorites) Spiderman 3 was just messed up! I definately agree about the Star Wars prequels weren't that great. Jurassic Park 2, they took 20 pages of the book and and made it into a movie.

Yeah I agree. I loved the first Matrix. Matrix Reloaded had a few good action scenes, but it felt to me like the writers were reaching with the story for the sake of turning it into a trilogy. And Revolutions was just .. I dunno lol. I couldn't even stomach watching it more than once. .. it was a struggle to make it through the first time.

I guess I'm one of the few who actually enjoyed Spider-Man 3.
A lot of people will disagree with me, but I felt really let down from Iron Man 2. Don't get me wrong IT WAS NOT A BAD MOVIE. In fact it was a really good movie, but it had a lot less Iron Man, and a lot more Tony Stark than I wanted. It was hyped up to have action action ACTION! So when I went to see it, I thought I would be getting mostly action. Instead I got a good mix of action and drama. Like I said, it was not a bad movie, but because I was expecting something else, it felt like a let down.

Hmmm this is a tough one. If you had asked me about prequels I would have said Star wars 1.2 and 3. They were horrible compared to the original trilogy. But this is about sequels. So maybe Matrix 2 and 3?

43ForceGems

Definitely Pirates of the Caribbean, both 2 and 3. They were just terrible, the first one made me expect too much! It was awesome!

(I know I already posted, bear with me!)

A few others I felt worth mentioning are the second and third Pirates of the Carribean movies.
Okay, so the first one was awesome. Great characters, good action scenes, witty humour...
The last two made me want to take a brick and repeatedly beat it apon my head.

The plot in these are the main problem. They make NO sense, they have NO point, and they're just RIDICULOUS.
Seriously? The ending for the third one? So dissapointing. The plot twists were dumb and silly, half of the second movie doesn't even HAVE a plot, just Jack Sparrow running away from natives. The third one was slightly better, but had waaay too many subplots. And that whole weird JackxElizabeth thing? o____o -shudder-

I'm sorry if I offend you if you like these films, but... auuuugh.

Well I do not think it is fair to call the Star Wars prequels bad. They were never a new idea. The story was how George Lucas always wanted it to be. It was his original story. This is the same for the Lord of the Rings, as well as Narnia, the books on those already exist. So the quality of the sequels depends on how well they adapt it. On that note. I can get into what I think is the worst movie sequels. The Harry Potter movies. Each one progressively departs further and further from the book it is based upon. The sixth one was just absurd. They left out the entire end-battle sequence. That's what everyone was looking forward to, and they cut it out. all they had was the thing with Snape. It leaves a huge plot hole. Why even get the others in if they don't do anything? They ruined it.

I'm really surprised no one has mentioned the big horror franchises Nightmare, Friday, Halloween etc, these are usually the very first ones I see when I see movie threads (although I loved all of them) am I the only horror fan here? :-0 The only really absolutley horrible piece of crap sequel I have seen was Halloween 3: Season of the Witch. Had nothing to do with the rest of the series and does not even mention Michael Myers. I know what they were trying to do with it at the time, which was to make an anthology collection thing like stories from the crypt, but really it was horrible.

I would like to start out with Highlander 2, the remake of 2, 3, Endgame, and The Source. That is five unbelievably terrible sequels to a genuinely great movie that I love to rewatch. But anything that comes after that..............ugh....

From Dusk Till Dawn. Obviously it is not art. But it was still a fun movie. But then someone else decided to make a few sequels to it, and they were horrible. Gettng worse with each sequel too. It was like the director was trying to top himself with each new title. When I think about it, I really don't think the new director has even seen the original or has any idea what it was about. He just knew it was vampires in Mexico doing general vampire stuff.

I agree mr Hoskey.

Yes i love the star wars prequels.
Some of the best films ive ever seen.
Yes they where cheesy in a way but i love cheesy films.

A sequel i didnt like was the 2 neverending story films.
First one is one of my all time fave films.

Ghostbusters 2. It was so bad, even more cheesy then the first one. You could bearly make sence of it, it had no plot. The best part was seeing them control the statue of librady with a nes advandge controller, while cool, shouldn'd be the best paet of a movie.

You guys probably haven't seen or heard of these movies. The Alien series. Alien (the first one) and Aliens (the second) were amazing, but when I watched Alien 3 (obviously the third, unless you are particularly retarted) was AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It may have been the worst movie ever! The director was the actor of the main character, which is by far the stupidest thing I have ever heard. She was trying to do too much at once, which made it a terrible movie.

I'd have to say Indiana Jones 4: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Don't get me wrong, it was a good movie, but it just didn't live up to the awesomeness that was the first three movies. The biggest problem I have with the movie is the fact that they waited to long to make it. By that time, Harrison Ford had become the Brett Farve of the Indianna Jones movies; it was better when he was younger, but now he's lost his touch and it's just gotten sad.

Has Transformers 2 been mentioned yet? Michael Bay did such a good job with the first one, but then goes back to typical Michael Bay with the 2nd one. I believe some of the crew actually apologized for how bad it was. That being said, I'll still more than likely see Transformers 3. The trailer looked decent.

Oh, and The Ring 2 was equally as awful.

If no one has mentioned Battle Royale 2, I will. A horrible sequel. What a shame Kinji Fukasaku (R.I.P.) died before he could completed the movie. His untalented son Kenta finished it.

Another worse sequel may be Mortal Kombat 2. When I was young, I really loved this movie. Now, years later, I realise it is so cheap and bad acted, it is embarrasing.
But there are much more worse Sequels to name. But these would be too much to list (total movie Nerd).

I gotta disagree with all you people who didn't like the Star Wars prequels. They were better than the originals for me... as a kid, original Yoda scared the crack out of me. Back on topic, I hated Shrek 3. Then, to top it off, my fool of a sister dragged me to watch Shrek 4. They just lost complete interest in the series by then. Toy Story 3 wasn't that good, and while Planet of the Apes was a great movie, Battle For the Planet of the Apes... just from the title, you could've told it would be disappointing.

Id say Alvin and the Chipmunks Squeakual.

I took my girlfriend to see it, and we got the last two tickets. The two seats left were on opposite sides of the theater, so we sat on the stairs. It was a crappy movie. That day would have sucked with anyone else, but i was with her, so it was an awesome day, :D

I think most sequels in general go overkill. there are exceptions (i.e. Toy Story 2 and 3) but in general, all sequels suck.

Movies that are open-ending normally deserve sequels, but movies like Cars and Alvin and the Chipmunks really didn't need sequels. i mean, i get they were popular, but seriously, girl-chipmunks and spies? WTF!?!?! Like, Toy Story had a good plot and was extremely popular. the sequel built off the first one and in turn made for a great story. they even added some characters. and the last one, made 10 years after the second, made you feel like those 10 years actually went by (cuz Andy's older now). that was a good story, and the ending was very open.
Now, a movie like Cars 2 was WAY overkill. i mean, the first one was cute, Larry the Cable Guy was awesome, but then they added spies to the second. WTF?! wow, Disney must be WAY in over their heads if they're added SPIES to a kids movie. but eh. nothing in this world is perfect, so i can't really complain.

so yeah, most sequels are pretty bad, but you will be lucky enough to find a good sequel.
