View Full Version : What the HELL was Nintendo thinking?!

seriously I was in the Best buy site looking for a game for my wii and then BAM I stopped with some crap like "My littliest Pet shop", "Dora saves the snow princess", "Petz horses", "Pedy paws spa", "Disney sing it"(and all that Hannah Montana and HSM crap etc), "High School Musical 3 DANCE!"(?????). and I was like "WHAT THE HELL?!" what was Nintendo thining when let a bunch of retards in crack make all this games for their 2nd best console (my opinion is that N64 was the 1st), is the same with the games for Nintendo DS. But overall the wii wins with the most crappy games out, I know maybe you're thinking "BUT THOSE ARE LITTLE KIDS GAMES!!!!!" I now but is not nessesary to make GAZILLIONS of them there are like 25 maybe 26 good games that I can play because they say that there's good games lie "No more heroes" but it's rated "M" so I can't play but most of the games that i can play are REALLY crappy ughhh. So what you think about this? plz tell me.
Yeah I tend to see those types of games more often now, and I think that's due to one the games are now able to be easier and super able to use for every little kid ever, and I will admit that sucks. There's like the 90% of games that are for like 5 year olds, and then another 10% that comes over like a 5 year time. I mean I only have like 5-6 games for the Wii, and that's because there's nothing to get my interest.

I remember those games...Apparently Nintendo wants a lot of companies to put random $5 productions on their systems. I think the producers were like, "Hey, it is a cheap console with the least controversey. I think we hit the jackpot..." I don't think they hit the jackpot. Half the games on Wii are mini-game games. And out of those, only a quarter of them are enjoyable (Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, WarioWare games, etc.). Then you have the games that seem like they were made with the budget of fifty dollars. I mean, the Petz series was stupid from the start. The GBA ones involved you owning an animal for 2 game weeks (a half hour), then the game ends. Then, Petz starts to imitate Nintendogs, and each game seems like the same exact thing, only with different animals (Nintendogs does not annoy me with this, for Nintendo had a tatic with this that they do the same with Pokemon). Then you have games that seem like they took the same production time like the old Atari ET game (Remember, they had six weeks to make it, so it was horrible!). Look, if they want to release a bunch of games like that, put them on the PS2. I mean, the PS2 is still alive, right?

It's all about money.
Nintendo's obviously getting TONS of money from games like this, so they'll continue to let the company make those type of games.

Unfortunately that is the curse of being the most popular platform but with most 3rd parties being utterly retarded.

I have a few games for Wii. The rest slide off. This is what happens when money gets in the picture. They go for the easyest buck. Its kind of the same thing as selling out ><

I hope you guys aren't blowing off good games just because they don't fit some inane perception of what you consider good. I'm not telling you to like the cheap cash-ins that 3rd parties make because they are too lazy to make good games (I'm looking at you UbiSoft) but there are some games out there that you can't judge solely by the cover.

It's a way to make sure Nintendo has games for every audience... I don't blame them, it's the best move to do, Nintendo has games that go from Resident Evil to Zelda, to Metroid, to Okami, to Barbie goes wherever she wants, etc... This way, they make everyone happy(even though little girls have way TOO many games to chose from)

I said "Let those retard in crack make those games for their systems" I never said that nintendo made those games
You weren't even born yet when Nintendo had a near tyrannical grip on what games came out on their systems. Back with the NES every company was given a certain amount of licenses to produce games for the NES. This was done to keep away the problems that led to the industry falling apart prior to the NES, a severe overflow of games that nearly destroyed the console market.
People criticized (and in some cases sued) Nintendo for this strict control and they started loosening up gradually. They are were they are now in terms of game flow because of this.
Also if anyone brings up the myth of the "Nintendo Seal of Quality". That never guaranteed game quality, just that a game would work on the NES.

The other companies, who don't like to put effort into making games, like the Wii and think more people will buy their game because it's on the Wii. I hate to see a clutter of Wii games with only 2 or 3 that are remotely good. At least most of them that are remotely good are pretty darn good, like Brawl and Twilight Princess. I really wish that Nintendo would make more of their own games, though. We still need to see a Kirby, StarFox, F-Zero, and Pikmin game for the Wii. If they were to revive the Kid Icarus series on Wii or make another EarthBound game, that would also be nice.
All these little girl games are ridiculous, though. Even if the Wii has choices for everyone, it has too many choices for 5-year-old girls who aren't even old enough to have to make decisions out of huge numbers of things. XP
Luckily, I have probably 20 Wii games and over half of them are pretty good. I fear that I may own every good Wii game out there.:S
chrisbg99

The problem is that it takes awhile to make very good games but little time to make the weak crap that most 3rd parties have made. It seems a lot of developers were taken by surprise by the Wii's success and most had their horses on the 360 or PS3 so most of them resorted to trying to make quick cash-ins.
Things are shifting a bit though. There are going to be a good flow of good 3rd party games coming out and the Wii even took Dragon Quest X, which if you don't know anything about Japan and their DQ fetish is a pretty big deal. Personally I can't wait for Madworld.

yeah, im not too fond of the games either... really, the only wii game i have is super smash bros. brawl... but of course since its dual-layered and the wii seems to have a harder time reading those, it kinda damaged the disc a tiny bit, enough to present me with a "disc read error"... so now i basically have NO wii games.
all i use my wii for now is playing VC games... i have a slightly different taste in games than most people i guess, i dont care much for games like 'no more heroes' and stuff, they dont interest me, i kinda like games like 'harvest moon' and 'animal crossing', but those are atleast playable for all ages as long as you arent closed-minded, the truly childish games are a bit... sickening.
i fear for zelda's future, what if they turn it into a childish thing too, making link fight with plastic swords that resemble baby bottles and no more harmlessly nude characters like princess ruto or midna?

What I hate is seeing these games take the top ten games on wii/DS for a few weeks, its disgusting. I dont want another video game crash of '83. At least nintendo pumps out some good games but they need do something about this. This is the reason why many hardcore nintendo fans feel cheated and start going for other systems.
3rd party companies (I hope) should see a decline in the selling of these games. But the problem is Most people who have a wii have a mom like mine who wouldent know a good game if it bites her in the rear end(though she is getting better, she called my games story games XD).

If they can extrapolate games out of commercials (Yo! Noid, Spot, Chester Cheetah) they can do it off a 30 minute Christmas special.

That's all pure opinion. In my humble opinion, I've yet to see a PSP game that I would spend more than 10$ on.
On topic, Mike has summed the entire thread up. Junk games means you rule market (which the Wii does). The PS2 had plenty of them when it was on the top, now it's the Wii's turn.

I'm not really sure why this surprises you. Nintendo has always been more geared towards younger kids. X-Box and PS are more geared towards the older, more mature crowd.
A lot of kids are playing games now and Nintendo is being SMART about it by making games that appeal to younger kids. They are making money off of it. That's the point.
MalonMaverick11
07-22-2009, 10:29 PM
the name of the game is making money, and expanding the fan-base. The way to do both of those things is to make games for all ages. Today, more young kids are playing video games than older people. This is especially the case for the Wii. Most parents don't want to buy their kids a gaming system, but they see that the Wii controllers help their kids move around. This is why they feel justified in buying a Wii, so they need a ton of kid-appropriate games to play.

I have to say there are little kid games for little kids but they do make A LOT of them now. I like my good old Action games not some learning game. Zelda can't end up like Mario Preschool (yeah there is a game about that). I honestly think that at least 60% of the games should be for older people. Who sees young kids beating games that quick anyway? It is no tlike they beat one game and buy another.

I don't know why anybody'd make such a big deal about this kinda thing. It's obviously all about the money, and of all of the games for Wii, there's still a bunch of good games. The convenient thing is, Nintendo's real, true games may not be dominant compared to all the cheap, girly, stupid, and crappy games, but each of Nintendo's games has a longer span of playtime, and the games are usually good enough so that we can continue to play them over and over again (Super Smash Bros. Brawl comes to mind) until another decent game is out. And with the addition of the VC, we can play all of the great oldies too.
I really don't like that they're letting all these people make boring, cruddy, cheap games either...but we've got enough to go on.

Well, Nintendo doesn't make those games you know. They don't make every single title available for Wii. Most of the games they make are great, it's just the third part developers making all of the "junk", and even then many of the third party games are pretty good. It's getting kind of old, but I'll say it again: All of the junk games are a sign of a healthy system. Remember how the PS2 was the obvious winner of the last generation? It had many junk games as well, just like the Wii does now. Does that mean all of the PS2 games were horrible? Of course not. The same thing applies to Wii. Junk titles are actually a very good thing for a system. It means it's winning the current generation. :)

There is one thing I believe about this. It's better then the other way. I mean all those 7 year old Grand Theft Auto players on a bigger scale (uuuugghhhh) and it's part of an audience thing kids buy it make kid games if 80 year old men buy it make 80 year old man games.
But the true answer always leads to money

*Sorry if I repeat anything and sorry to revive an old thread, I don't have time to scroll through 5 pages of replies right now xD also excuse me because my faith in nintendo is pretty down atm*
I agree with you totally. The other day I was in Asda, and there was this thing going around on the speakers, advertising various games. For PS3 it was a pretty epic sounding fantasy game, for Xbox 360 it was a cool sounding FPS... for ds it was "Puzzleworld" or something. Okay... that's just about passable... but for Wii it was some Disney Hannah Montana singalong game. I facepalmed so hard surrounding people stared at me looking concerned.
I don't mind games aimed at the younger audience... but the market's just flooded now. If anymore crap gets made it's going to be the Video Game Crash of '83 all over again. But that probably won't happen because the sad thing is, people buy this crap. Young children like it.
Stupid sony fanboys used to tease me when I was younger, saying nintendo made "baby games". But now, actually, I have to agree with them. They as good as make them anyway, letting everybody make crap for the wii. The good games are being buried in the middle of a mediocre sea...
It's just all about the money, isn't it. :c

Yeah there are alot of little kid games. Alot of family friendly games with the wii. Which I think is great. But there are little kids out there who think those are the best games ever.

So don't buy them.
People act like this is a new trend. This has gone on since Atari. Part of being a gamer is wading through all the crap to find the good games. If that bothers you, find a new hobby.

That about sums it up. After reading through a lot of the posts in this thread, they seemed all very similar. There is nothing wrong with "Nintendo's thinking", they are just trying to make money. Name a console that doesn't have any of these "kid games" you are all crying about... I will say that the marketing of games for a younger audience is a lot higher now.

Bravo.
I would also like to point out that the ones ragging on Nintendo just because they have a bunch of junk for their system obviously don't think before they type. I've said this so many times that it's no even funny: Nintendo doesn't MAKE the games. I'll say it again: Nintendo doesn't MAKE the games. Other developers make them FOR the Wii system in hopes of making money, and it's not Nintendo's fault in the slightest. The PS2 had the exact same crap on it back when it was number one all those years ago too; like Mike said, this is nothing new at all.
So please people, think. Nintendo doesn't make any of it, therefor there's no blame to be put on them.

Ver-go-a-go-go has basically summed up a correct answer for the thread. Congrats, this thread is now pointless.
I'll repeat him just to make sure it's clear: "Nintendo doesn't make the games."

As long as Nintendo continues to release first party games like Mario and Zelda, I'll still continue to be a strong supporter.
Unfortunately it seems like Nintendo is slipping away slowly from the first party Nintendo we knew and love back in the '90's with the SNES and the N64.

Those aren't what we're talking about (suckish though they may be)
We're "talking" (more like repeating each other) about the edutainment "games" like Dora.

I'll be honest and say I have no idea why people think that. Do recent first party titles really suck so bad in the eyes of old time fans that they just cannot accept them? Is it that they long for 2D so much that anything that was 2D and now is 3D cannot possibly be better? Or is it just that nostalgia is so strong that it blinds them from really trying to appreciate recent games? I just have a hard time understanding hoe Nintendo supposedly gets worse over time when their first part games continue to get stellar rankings that improve with each installment.

I don't know, I just think the N64 had better first party games. Some of them are my favorite games of all time. I think Super Mario 64 tops the list.
