well, im almost at the end of the game, and i've heard of quite a few things in it that i havent come across yet, one being the mirror shield...

so i read about how to get it, and apparently it can only be received AFTER you beat the game... um.. who needs it at that point, seriously?

theres also a couple other things im wondering about in this game, i've heard you can get light arrows in the game, and read about how to get them, apparently you have to do something early in the game and you receive them later... does this mean i've missed my chance at them? and why are they so out of way... another useless item, i suppose?

and the magical boomerang, i cant remember what you needed to do to get that... fusing kinstones with tingle and his brothers i think is what i read...

in most other games the mirror shield and light arrows would be a absolutely required to get past a certain point, but they seem like just little extras to pass a few minutes in this game... and the magic boomerang seems like a real pain to get for a little extra reach...

i guess im just confused about these things being so easy to miss and why they're even in the game at all, never seen so many useless inventory items in a zelda game before, sure some games have items that become useless after they serve their purpose, but these things never had a purpose to begin with apparently. >.>

Yes, its a real pain that the shield is a inventory item. heck even the sword is a inventory item. Why doesn 't link just carries his shield like Alttp. really bad move from nintendo or capcom.

But its not the items, it the lack of equip buttons. it has only two equip buttons, and you always use your sword, so that makes 1 equip button.
in Alttp you also have 1 equip button, but at least you can use your shield and pegasus boots all the time.

yes to get the magical boomerang, you have to fuse kingstones with the 4 tingles brothers. its not that hard. and the boomerang is also pretty handy. its not just the range that is upgrated, but also you can curve/steer the boomerang.

The Mirror Sheild is Useless. But the light arrow do come in handy if you Free the guy from the demon. You don't have to do the thing to get the light arrows too early in the game. Just do it before you get to the real Wind Palace. And like Oni said, the Bommarang is really handy.

Yes, the Mirror Shield is basically useless. I see at as one of those things that you have to do to get 100%. Although it is kind of fun standing in front of an octorok with it out, and then watching it shoot a rock at you, and get zapped =D.

The Magical Boomerang is actually quite handy, I think, and it's not hard to get. I thought it was pretty cool being able to influence the direction of it after you throw.

The light Arrows were also pretty cool. If they hit one thing, they just keep going until they hit something solid, like a wall or an enemy that it doesn't affect. It also does a bit more damage, I'm pretty sure.

The mirror shield is useless, and ugly, i think it is the worst mirror shield design... And if it was received before Vaati, it could have been useful, but in that way, i don't think so... Also, the Magical Boomerang was pretty useful, just like it's Oracle of Seasons version, being able to "guide" it is awesome

Oh yes, thats the only time that the mirror shield comes handy, the fight against vaati. but like you said, why after the game? But i like the design, its just the same design as in TWW. But yeah in TWW at least the design matched with the design of the master sword.

But about the buttons, they could have simply made the A or B button the standard sword button, and at the same the the action button like in most zelda games. rolling is pretty a ussless thing if you ask me (especialy in 2d).

And that the other A or B button was the equip button.

and about the R button, they could have either made is standard button for the pegasus boots (like in Alltp its automaticly always equiped). Or hack they could made a standard shield button or also a equip button.

but still, as i said before, i would have liked it better that link was also holding its shield.

The Magical Boomerang is not useless, it is pretty useful, imo, specially in the Palace of the Winds and Dark Hyrule Castle... but the mirror shield made me hate the game for a couple of days!

All and all Minish Cap is quite strange. To much kinstones as I guess I have stated before. And the Mirror Shield is a mistake if is true that you can only obtain it after beating the game (I never got it).

I got the mirror shield and it was too much work to get it, because I never used it. But I did find the magic boomerang very helpful. It was a way to save arrows when you had to hit switches.

ummmmm...... isn't that how it was with most handheld zelda's? why would they make minish cap any different? :hmm:

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't you have to finsh the game first to get the Mirror Shield?

Anything where that is the case is piontless as far as I'm concerned.

^No need to correct you sir, it has been discussed the whooole thread so far to be the way you said.

Myself, all I was told was that I needed to talk to the big Goron, he never gave it to me, my friend never understood why. Now I am having a good laugh realizing this. XP

The many useless items in Minish Cap are fun to play with, so I call them "Toys". The mirror shield was fun to kill octoroks with. Remote bombs annoyed me. They were an upgrade, as they added more accuracy when attacking enemies, but I hated it when blowing up walls, I kept forgetting that you have to press the button twice.

Anyway, no matter how useless, those "toys" are very fun to mess around with. :)

The mirror shield seems useless most of the time.
I only use it when I'm surrounded by Wizzrobes.
The magic boomerang is one of the best boomerangs IMO.
And the light arrows...
I never use arrows, so I don't know.
But I have light arrows. :P

The Magical Boomerang and Light Arrows are actually quite handy, I used them a lot and got them both on my first run-through. ^^
I guess the mirror shield is just something for you to have 100% and for when you are bored after you beat the game.

yeah you have to let the biggoron eat your sheild. yeah i'd say the mirror sheild is pointless. but i found it fun going back after i completed the game and finding the mirror sheild. and not only that, its beautiful. its the best design of mirror sheild without a doubt. similar to that of TWW but better shaped and amazing. and not only that, it actually looks like a mirror. not like that **** in LTTP which is pretty much just the same shield as the standard one but red or something. i love the mirror sheild in MC

ah and the light arrows are pretty damn cool aswell. but it is very annoying that you can miss them. i actually played the whole game through again just because i had missed them lol.

Yeah, that happened to me.
I started over the game just to get the light arrows.
And angelkid, please don't double post; you're not supposed to.
It's against the rules.
Just letting you know.

I thought that you had to get the magical boomarang to get past a part in the wind temple. That is how I got past the temple because there is a part where you need to hit a switch but your regular boomarang can't reach and you can't shoot it with an arrow

But however I do agree even though I haven't got the mirror sheild it sounds to be practicly useless. But that funny watching an octorok shoot you with a rock and then you deflect it and get's killed.
(I think it's suicidal, hahaha!)

And the light arrows you get form saving the guy in the top floor of that house before you can get to the wind temple, by using your gust jar to suck up the bad omen and then you talk to him and he gives you the most helpful item in the game beside the four sword (or that is my opinion).

Ahh, yes. I still don't know exactly how I'm supposed to get the Mirror Shield, but when I first played through the game I missed my chance to get the Light Arrows, so I had to start over and play through it again to get it...

The Mirror Shield sounds pretty useless. All it does is reflect magic attacks, and that has barely any use even if you were to acquire it at the beginning. At the end it's... useless. I haven't actually gotten it, mind you, but I don't really see it being any other way.

The Light Arrows were odd in that there was a point where they could no longer be acquired. I actually hated that. Never in the history of Zelda has that happened. I blame it on Capcom doing the game. Anyway, aside from that, I had no problem with them. They were a cool addition, little charge-up arrows, and I found them quite useful, especially against the Gibdos in the Palace of Winds and Dark Hyrule Castle.

And the Magic Boomerang? I loved that thing. Sure it was a bit of a pain to collect, but all you needed to do was find all the Tingle brothers. It wasn't that bad. And it was a great item. Not only did it have twice as much reach, but it could be controlled mid-flight, which was cool because it more closely resembled the Boomerang in the 3D Zeldas (and that's one thing I loved about Minish Cap, how it was a 2D Zelda incorporating many elements of the 3D games).

I always like, in Zelda, having special optional items or upgrades, so I enjoyed these. It was a little disappointing at times how few opportunities you got to use them, but that's really my only problem with it. I can understand complaints about the Mirror Shield though. That's... kinda lame... -.-

i found remote bombs very usefull in the part with 3 darknuts at once right before vatti. plant a remote bomb, wait for the darknuts to be between you an the bomb, set the bomb and they get stunned , damaged ant launched right into your sword.

i managed to get all upgrade and i would like to say that the mirror shield can be conidered a part of the goron sidequest for the fourth bottle (had to trade with mysterious walls), it is only obtained after killing Vaati but it isnt 100% useless maybe 99% useless because it is handy for removing annoying octorocks. the light arrow you need to trade with the traveler in castler town market and t will open a portal to the wind tribeshouse where you can get rid of the guys ghost and once you return before you enter the place of wind you can get them a fairly late item but is very usefull. i found the magic boomerang not ver helpfull (mainly coz i use arrow soooo much)
