Was anyone else freaked out when they played through the Shadow Temple for the first time?
I was about 8 when I first played it, and I thought the skulls and the music were extremely creepy! Not to mention Bongo Bongo and his severed hands!
I wouldn't say I was really freaked out by it, I was more:
.....wtf.
Just kind of like a what the hell happened to this place?

I played the Shadow Temple when I was 14, so it wasn't scary at all. I liked the Shadow Temple. I would've been pretty freaked if I was younger though.

Yes, this temple deserves its own topic.
now here is my little story.
Back when i was a little kid, and on my first try wih OOT, i was actually scared to go in the temple... but still i need to play it. it was nervewrecking.
Stupid wallmasters, Din 's fire FTW!
anyway the ironic part is, this became my fave temple for some reason.
even if it was scary at the start, i really liked the idea of the temple when i grew older.
weird huh?

I was never freaked out by it, just aggravated a lot. It was a cool temple, but not my favorite. It felt very claustrophobic to me. Even though it wasn't really small, there were a bunch of walls and close ceilings everywhere that made it seem very inclosed, like a large crypt or something. My favorite temple is probably the Spirit Temple to be honest, though I like them all for different reasons. The Spirit Temple just had the koolest layout. And the fact that you got to play it as kid and adult Link was pretty neat.
The only part that freaked me out was the Boat with the stalfos. But that's only 'cause I hate stalfos.
The Forest Temple always creeped me out more.

Now that you mention it, on my first try, i also was kinda freaked out with forest temple.
I was expecting something like: yay, forest...lot of green and flowers...and..stuff...
But it felt more like a haunted evil forest. I kinda like the whole idea of the temple, but it was unexpected for me, its kinda hard to describe it.
Oh yeah, and one important thing of the forest temple that really gave you that strange feeling was the music. mysterious music, like all of a sudden a enemy would pop up from link 's back or something.

When I was little it was dark, creepy, and scary. Like this movie where you think something is going to pop out around and corner and how there was blood on the floor in that one room of the temple and it was all freaky... and the spikes from the ceilings or whatever, I think I'm still talking about the Shadow Temple, it's been a while. I found that temple really freaky and scary whenever I was younger, but it doesn't bother me any more.

I was scared when I played through it, but it was pretty fun. I hated how many wallmasters there were and Bongo-Bongo was so cool.

I would never play it as a kid. When I finnally got to Bongo Bongo (2 YEARS later) I wondered why people thought he was so scary. He was an aweaome boss and alot of the time I purposely don't save afterwards just to battle him again and again. ^^

Yeah, he's one of the funnest bosses in Zelda history IMHO.

Those two bosses are simply awesome.
Also, in the Shadow Temple, I forgot to jump off the boat. I was scared when I started it and then I thought you had to defeat the Stalfos to get off.
Whoopsies!

That ghost ship was a nice touch, and as always stalfos appear out of nowhere to attack
But anyways, I agree with the thought that the Shadow Temple is creepy, like one big crypt. I think thats exactly what it is. But I always thought the bottom of the well was scarier...

The Shadow Temple was the worst for me. Not only was it creepy and hard, but it just happened to have my least favourite enemies, including Stalfos, Redeads/Gibdos, Wallmasters and Dead Hand. Plus, the dank crypt surroundings got boring after a while. By the end, I just wanted to get out of there.

I actually think the bottom of the well was more scary, it was actually psycho in my opinion. Bongo bongo was not scary at all but a great boss.

yeah I thought the bottom of the well was scarier cause I didn't know what I was doing and I ran into a redead and a like like Readead really creep me out but the shadow temple wasn't that scary Stalfos have always been my favorite enemies so well they didn't scare me but the Gibdos and Readeads were probably the only things that actuall scared me and also like El bagu said Bongo Bongo wasn't even close to scary but he was a great boss and the dead hands scared me a little ooh when wallmasters fall from the ceiling without me knowing (luckly Navi helps there)

Yep. The Dead Hands are just about the most disturbing mini-boss ever, Nintendo did a great job making them scary and it fit into the well level quite well. Another thing was the constant dead moaning of the ReDeads, it was quite an unnerving noise.
The swinging scythes and the guillotines in the Shadow Temple were cool, but I agree by the end all I wanted was to get the heck out of there!

I'm definitely with you there on that one, heck when I played OoT for the first time I was like 9 years old. But aside from those three, if anything scared me more than those it was the Happy Mask Salesman and the Moblins. When the moblins charge in the Sacred Forest Meadow I used to freak out
Deadhand.... jeez.... he belongs in some awful fantasy horror movie...

Agreed.. I never really got scared of the moblins.. rather they pissed me off.. I was like 7 when I first played OoT
I wasn't scared of it (I was like....15 when I bought OoT) but that particular temple always had me wondering wth happened there. Same thing about the Well. You see this kind of....crosses or X's made of wood with chains and blood all over the floor like they actually tortured prisoners or something. Maybe this palace is the one most related to the war mentioned by the Deku Tree. Another Reason why I think a "prequel" to OoT would rule. To see that war un full scale and get a more complete vision of the kingdom, its history, and why not....the shadow temple.:)

The Shadow Temple is great. I don't understand what you people are so scared of. I guess I just favor more darker things, which is why I'm not scared of it.

I did not find the Shadow Temple to be scary.
Then again I first played the game when I was 15.
Did that many people find it scary?

I remember that the music from the Shadow temple scared the crap out of me, and it gave me shivers when a room the walls said "This is the bloody history of Hyrule and the royal family" something like that and those Wallmasters creeping in there *shivers* (I guess I double posted in here but I don't want to go back 10 pages just to see so forgive me if I double posted).

I wasn't creeped out by the Shadow Temple when I played it. In fact, I loved it! Even though I was considerably younger back then, it didn't really matter. I've always been a huge fan of creepy things and monsters. Although some things used to still creep me out, the Shadow Temple just wasn't one of them.
I will agree that it was one seriously freaked up hellhouse, though.

yeah the part when I was in the room with the invisible floormasters creeped me out a bit I didn't know what was happening and then it looked like link was having a siezure, then I turned on my handy-dandy eyes of truth and I realized it was, a floor master then well I took it as a regular battle so they didn't really scare me much:)

Personally, I think the Sacred Grove full of Moblins is more scary then ANYTHING in OoT. Oh gosh......I always yell "Ah!" at least once when going through there the first time in a play through.

Im in the beginning of the Shadow Temple! I think it's very different then the other temples! It creeps me out so much, especially the rooms that are tombs. And don't you hate it whenever you try to walk through a door and it has to stop you and say that the darkness will yeild to the one with the eye of truth? I mean, that gets very annoying. But, overall, I like it alot more than the bottom of the well. Oh gosh that place was soooo scary.
