Every girl in my class is obsessed with Twilight it's taking over my world -.-
Like every girl says they're gonna mary Edward (the boy at the front of the pic) and I say uhhh no your not he's an actor, its sooooo annoying.
Hate it. Hate it to the core. All day, nonstop, it just gets pounded into my head by every girl in my school and I hate it.

I saw the book once in a book store and I picked it up. (This was before I had even heard of the movie). I didn't start it yet but my dad said that only girls like it. I think it is one of thos movies that I call a "chick-flick". I don't think it will be that good but in the first page of the book someone dies, so it can't be that bad.

No more 4chan for you, mister.
But anyway, I never really read the books or watched the movie, but all of the girls in my school are like obsessed with it.
I've heard mixed things about the book (I'm not sure about the movie). Some love it more than life, and others hate it more than... death.
From what I've heard it doesn't sound great, but I'd have to read/watch it first.

There are a lot of reasons to not like the movie or book.
The lack of fangs isn't one of them.
Everyone at my school keeps raving about it. I don't know much about it but from what I can tell it's a vampire romance, not interested.

I really hate Twilight, because from what I've heard the plot and characters are really stupid and I am sick of hearing about how great it is.
I can finally test this myself, as I received the first book for Christmas from my aunt and uncle. I decided hey, what the heck, so I have been reading it and trying to be as unbiased as possible. So far, I have noticed that everything is insanely and unnecessarily drawn out, chapters, descriptions, etc.. Also, Bella is not a very likable character. She is very shut off from everyone else and cannot find the good in anything. I do, however, like the way that Meyer has written the romance.
As for the movie, I have no idea. I have no desire to see it due to my prejudices against it, but people have said that the special effects are really bad and the acting is a bit off (made worse by lines taken directly from the book).

So Caleb and I went to see the movie a week ago. I didn't think it was that bad (he did) and decided to read the books. I'm liking it all so far, but I tend to like cheesy stories. *shrug* But I am definitely not going to start blabbing about it to all of my friends or on here. The obsession is a bit much.

The fact that the book is poorly written, on par with fan fiction is a much better reason to hate it.

Like pretty much every other girl I've met, I have been through that crazy Twilight obsession. I read all of the books in about 3 weeks. Every night I would read a good 6 or so chapters. It's all I could think about all night! The movie didn't do the books justice, but they still sucked; I just didn't realize it then. Now this Twilight stuff is annoying the heck outta me, but it is just a silly fad. People will (hopefully) get over this book series. I'm sure glad I came to my senses before I got really obsessed and attemped to eject vampire venom into me.

That "sequel" is going to be callled Midnight Sun. Part of what she had written was leaked onto the internet, and then Stephenie Meyer decided to let the fans read what she had so far. It was decent, and kind of amusing. It was a fun read if you are a fan of the books.

The movie was okay. I think most girls only like the movie due to Robert Pattinson and the whole concept of forbidden love. If it wasn't so girly I think the movie could've been better. The book was okay I guess. It was very dull in the beginning. It did get better thought towards the end due to the thorough description. I think Twilight was a pretty good movie but it's a movie I'd never watch again.

Shadsie
08-04-2009, 03:36 PM
I have not read the books, nor have I seen the movie, so I really cannot form valid opinions. All I know is that, from what I've heard of it, it never seemed like anything that would be my cup of tea. I've never been into vampires much - and if I feel in a vampy mood, I have three manga volumes of "Hellsing" on my bookshelf. - And that features blood, gore, fangs and all that - while many anime/manga fans think Alucard is "hot," he is most definitely a monster and poor Seras is just someone he picked up on a whim, as I recall, and it's an action/horror series, not a romance. Then there's the "Crossfire" side stories in the back of the books about the assassin-nuns and that's just fun.
Shadsie prefers good old-fashioned blood to emo?
Anyway, online friends who tell me they've read these books in part or in whole tell me that my writing is a lot better... which makes me wonder why I'm not a published author yet when they're so successful. But, I guess the publication world and the public prefers vampires to morally-conflicted gryphons and peaceful, young, traveling scientists. And I don't think I can write a good, sappy romance to save my life (it's not even a heavy presence in my fan-fictions and they're a lot easier to write than original junk).
I don't know. No real opinion on the Twilight books/movies - all I know is that if my work ever became that popular, I'd be very flattered, but if I had swarms of fangirls and fanboys obessing over it to the point of treating it like holy writ and me like a goddess, I'd hold a press-conference to tell them to "Go get lives. Please. I'm not that great, go read some classics."

The storyline focuses around a human teenage girl who falls for a vampire. That's the extent of it. Teenage girls adore the series. It's pretty cliched, but fun to read if you like lighter stories.

I swear I hate this thing. And I'll say why I hate it unlike the other lazy haters on this thread.
First of all, I think the story is 2% appealing. I love vampires. But this thing just tried to mix vampires with goth. Not really that good. Dracula is awesome. Edward Cullen just defines the word garbage if you ask me. I also hated the dark background and secession from a regular vampire story. During vampire stories, there is no romance, just a guy out to kill a vampire for no reason. Twilight also ruined my idea of Castlevania having a video game with Twilight in the title. I like vampires, but Edward Cullen cannot grasp the definition of vampires.
Reason 2, its now a trend for girls. Every girl I know (that doesn't have much sanity) loves Twilight in one way or another. Just as they do HSM, iCarly, Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, and Fred. And it is just as annoying.
OMG!! Edward Cullen is so HAWT!!!!!!!11!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111111! !!!
I LURV ROB PATTINSON HES SO CUTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!
I CANT WAIT TO SEE NEW MOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!
Most of the time its Edward Cullen but I cannot believe how crazy they go over a freaking goth.
Lastly, its a chick flick. Look at it. It pales in comparison to the original tale of Dracula and Castlevania stories. I hate it because it disgraces vampires worldwide. When I think vampire, I think epic tales of slaying vampires. But Stephenie Meyers needs to learn that vampires don't involve romance. AT ALL. It is such a mess. Vampires are supposed to destroy chick flicks. Not the other way around. I hate it so much I want to drive a stake through Edward Cullens heart.

I liked the books. Not to the point of being obsessed, not even close. In fact, I thought it had a few flaws. But I liked them overall. I got into it first because my sister read the first book and said she liked it, and then my other friends said the same thing. So I decided to read the first book, liked it good enough, and read the rest.
The movie, on the other hand, is meh at best. Parts were left out, parts were rushed, actors didn't suit their characters, and so on. I didn't like it. I know people who do, but I thought it was a waste of my time. Good thing I didn't waste the money on it at the theaters!

Well, we have a little under 2 months left until New Moon comes out. Anyone awaiting it eagerly? I have to say that I am a little. However, seeing the trailers for it makes everything seem just so cheesy. I realize half of the book is about Bella's angst, but I really don't know how that will translate to the screen.

Twilight.... Um... The books are great. The movie was...eh... Went to see it the day it came out. It was okay, then, but when I was forced to watch it 3 more times, I realized it was retarded.

I have disliked the books due to forced description and unnecessary details. But I became more obsessed with hating it than anyone was with liking it. It was rather embarassing. I wrote mean songs about it and everything. But It wasn't that bad of a story, I mean it was a combination of genres that I like and all. I just wish Bella went for Jacob. What's really funny about my sister is that she's team "Jake-ward." :D
Oh and Edward in the movie. He killed Edward; he killed a vampire. But that's just my opinion, not to offend anyone.

I happened to be bored this past week and reread the series for the first time. I figured it might be good since New Moon is coming out in a month.
I also saw a video of the 3 trailers combined and it looks like it will all be fairly close to the book!

-(bear in mind it's my opinion)-
I really struggle to understand how a series can be so popular when the main character is one of the biggest Mary-Sues I've ever read. Gee, thanks Meyer, you just destroyed several decades worth of feminism progress. I don't know a single girl who acts like Bella does... so I just don't get how people "can really relate to her" or how people think she's such "a realistic character".
I managed to read through the first book, to give it a chance because I find it hard not to get into any book... but I have to say it was a damn struggle. We really really don't need a page long description of Edwards eyes in the middle of every chapter. We get it, he's supposed to be handsome. Now just leave it and focus on writing a well-planned storyline that actually makes sense, or deepening one of the many cardboard-cutout characters. PLEASE.
The film was better, I have to say, even if it did leave some things unexplained. At least shots of "Edward's" eyes were much better than those pointless descriptions, and the mismatched dictionary-filched language didn't show through :D
Probably what annoys me more than rabid fangirls or a rather bland plotline that really doesn't seem to go anywhere (what plot?) is the fact that whenever I open my mouth to discuss something with my friend, this happens:
"So who's your favourite character in Twilight..."
*gets cut off by fifty million Twitards turning around and begin offering answers*
"...Princess."
*Twitards stare*
"...The Zelda game."
*Twitards continue to stare*
"Never mind."
JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE SAYS THE WORD TWILIGHT DOESN'T AUTOMATICALLY MEAN THEY ARE REFERING TO THAT SERIES DAMMIT.
*breathes* But hey, if people like it, then I'm not going to hate them for it. If they stick it in my face constantly, then maybe. But otherwise, to each his(or her) own, as long as you're happy with your own opinion :3

I actually heard two stories about Twilight fangirls and their gruesome actions. But I'm not sure if they're true. Here they are word for word (from what I heard)
Four heavyset girls (well no duh) ganged up on one girl. One got her to the ground, drove her knee into her arm, and pulled until she heard a crack. The girl had a broken arm. That was because she didn't like Twilight.
One girl told another that she thought Twilight was okay. It wasn't her thing, it was just okay. The twitard pulled a switchblade out on her and she (the girl who said Twilight was okay) pulled out of the room so fast she almost broke her neck.
A twitard beats a girl in a catholic school (that adds to its disturbance to my sane mind). The twitard started whacking her with a french copy of Twilight. Trying to defend herself, she luckily slapped the book out of her hands. Then the twitard started clawing at her with fake nails. Then the girl stupidly opens her eyes (out of panic or fear probably) and felt a ferocious sting. The twitard ran off and the girl felt her eye was wet. She thought Could it be blood or tears?, but judging by the screams and gasps, it was apparently blood. She discovered she had a huge and infected gash in her eye. (And I thought reading it would make your eyes bleed)
So nice fanbase Meyers. Your book has worked the polar opposite of a miracle.

I don't know that any of those stories are true, but the "twihards" are a bit out of hand, for sure. I have read some interviews from the new castmembers for New Moon and Eclipse. They have been pretty amazed/disturbed by how the main cast members are practically mobbed.

Twilight is one of those book/movie series that anger a whole generation of true writers.
Anyways, this sums it up for me.

Funny comic, almost defines every thing that twilight is about! I have notice though, people are hating on Twilight even though they never read the books or seen the movie. (I USE to be a hater on twilight.) Yesterday, I went with my friends to see New Moon. I thought twilight was a pile of garbage. Now that I have saw the movie new moon, I did ENJOY it. I mostly liked the fighting scenes and the scene that make you worry about the charaters. I would rate the movie 3 1/2 stars. Because first of all, you only turn into a werewolf at full moon, not any time of the day. And last of all.... Vampires do not sparkle when exposure to sunlight, they burn up.

Yeah, I've seen those comics before. They're hilarious!
I tried reading the first book, but I gave up at around 100 pages because nothing was happening. The book is so amazingly plotless. And tedious. It's just Bella going about her daily business and squealing about Edward. You'd think they'd milk some drama out of the fact that Edward could kill Bella and that he really really wants to drink her blood. But no. We can't have our perfect couple worrying about being together! Instead we get some other vampire who wants her blood tacked on to the end of the story who is quickly dealt with even after Bella makes the stupid decision to try and fight him herself. When he is a vampire. And she is a human. *facepalm*
The movie is better, but that's only in comparison to the book. It still has the same laughable dialogue and nonexistent plot. Made worse by the awful acting and hilariously bad special effects. Bella has no emotion. At all. None. Neither does Edward, really.
You know what's especially bad? My brother and his friend love the books. No joke. And I have to listen to them tell me about how great it is and that I shouldn't hate it. >:(
Also, Team Edward Elric.
I love Twilight , I am looking forward to Twilight : Eclipse

I have an acquaintance that is completely obsessed with Twilight. She loaned be the book not long after it was released. I have to say, the book was horrible. The writing was drug out and... a lot of events seemed very exaggerated and unrealistic compared to how they would be in actual reality. Bella is also a very unlikable character, I basically hated her from the start. She was extremely depressing and seemed like the only thing she thought of was Edward. Which was boring. Edward had a blah personality, and Stephanie Meyer is a...bad? Writer. I did eventually finish the book just to say that I read it, but it was grueling and uninteresting.
As far as the movie goes, I saw the trailer, and that was enough.

Man, This Twilight fad is gonna die off someday(I HOPE) it has to!
Something I find Funny is the 3rd one is already coming out. Jeez they cr@p out the movies even faster than the books.
Twilight is a crime against humanity -- quite literally.

I (sadly) liked the books, but the movie adaptation was terrible. Honest to god, the first time I saw the trailer, I thought the girl playing Bella was Edward's mother. Seriously.

I hate it to the core. It gets annoying when everyone's saying something like 'Twilight is the best thing ever!' I just hate it. I never read the book but the movie was O.K. I would give it 2 1/2 stars out of five. I even made up a joke where if someone says 'Twilight' or if I see a picture of it or anything, I would say 'Ow my whatever.' I'll give you an example. If someone says 'Twilight,' I would say, 'Ow my ears!'. I even joined the groups 'Twilight Haters' and 'We hate Twilight because it's not Twilight Princess.' Both can be found here at ZD Forums.
EDIT: All right who gave me the negative rep? FYI: Hating something so much doesn't mean I like it. I just don't see what's so good about Twilight. I hate how people talk about it so much.

I like Twilight enough. I'm not crazy about it, and certain aspects I can find fairly annoying, but it's a fun little story.
Frankly I find most of the freakout over Twilight completely ridiculous. And I'm talking from both sides. The superfans seriously need to shut up and leave everyone be (although they have the right to like it and talk about it when it's appropriate), but frankly most of the people I've heard talking about the books who hate them sound like complete brats, IMO. I've constantly heard them bash the book, saying things about it that are blatantly false. Claiming things about the story when in fact it is literally the opposite. I also find it ridiculous that there are people who read it just to prove it's horrible. Don't like it? Don't read it. And you also can't prove anything because it's all opinion.
The argument about it being horribly written is also mostly irrelevant; a moot point. People don't read books because they're written well, although obviously that's a plus. Most people read books because the concept or story itself interests them. Therefore it's entirely up to people's opinions and interests what books will be popular. I read books that are not terribly well written, same with video games actually, as long as the concept interests me enough.
Personally, my favorite thing about Twilight is actually the lore. The vampires are frankly bad-***, and the scientific explanations for what they are are incredibly intriguing. The glittery skin annoyed me at first, until I understood the reason for it. Super strength literally cannot work without super density. The vampires essentially have diamond skin (diamond is the densest stone), which will even crack and such instead of tear. The werewolves also intrigued the hell out of me.
I can understand people disliking it, as there's a lot to dislike, but the bashing and trolling is really childish. Not that Twitards aren't acting like children too, though. They certainly are.

When I first read it, I'll admit I liked it. I can't remember why though, I think it was because it was such a new concept to me to portray vampires as romantic. But the plot was so...well honestly I couldn't follow it. The interactions between the main characters seemed so unrealistic. The whole Edward watching Bella sleep thing was beyond creepy. The sparkly skin...well after that I felt like I wasn't reading about vampires anymore. It didn't take long for me to dislike the book.
I read the second and third books too since it's really hard for me to kick habits like finishing a book series. I will say I got so bored with them that I can't even remember the plot of either. I chose not to read the fourth book; the summaries I read of the plot made it seem so random and illogical. There were points in the series where I just couldn't figure out what the characters were thinking, what their logic was, or even if they were using realistic logic in response to a situation.
Finishing the first book, I decided I didn't like the series. I will say that I am horribly against the whole idea behind the book now due to unfortunate bias. I tend to judge things based on the public's reactions compared to personal feelings. I felt it was a mediocre book, cheesy bordeline bad. Then I encountered all the Twihards and their ridiculously overboard fangirling. The series does not deserve all that praise in my opinion, so that's about when I decided to hate the series. It's a biased view, I know, but really, I'm pretty sure I hate the Twihards more than I hate Twilight.

Hmm, I personally thought the movie was okay.. but too gooey and the vampires were weird and some people find it attractive...? I might give the books a go, but it is boring and not fantasy like. For girls that love romance and thrills....(still not for me really)
I perfer to stick to Twilight Princess...

Good post Axle! It's great to hear a guy who has read the series and is not dissing it. Each of your points was really well thought out and it wasn't emotionally charged. Hopefully others will read your post and calm down a bit about Twilight :)
I never read this book but i saw this movie and love it!

I personally liked the books and am a guy. On that note they are what I call 'popcorn' fiction, books devoid of food for thought and best suited to be laughed at. Where I take issue is when Stephen King validly points out that the writing is terrible when asked off hand at an interview and the twilight fans attempt to attack him with barely cohesive sentences. Also where Shakespeare is quoted in allusion to the main character's romance and when fans are unable to recognize wonderful books like Twilight is the only book they have read.

Is this a thread for the Twilight movie, movies or just Twilight in general?
I personally loved the Twilight movie, the cinematography was wonderful. And the mood lighting was my favorite part. Muted colors like it was fogy and over cast all over, and pronounced green and red colors. Also loved the acting, and the subtle reactions and facial movements, even something as small as a intake of breath had meaning and was well timed. I can understand that it isn't for everyone, and every one has their own tastes in movies and entertainment, but I didn't get how some one can say that Twilight was the worst movie, or the books to be horrible. I've seen really bad writing and horrible movies before... It seems to be a bit much to me, but than some themes and characters just great on peoples nerves I guess  I hated American Beauty, and thought is was awful. Though, I wouldn't go around saying it had bad acting, terrible writing. Just couldn't stand the dark ugly story. The beautiful moments that it did have seemed like a lie to me...
I personally payed too much attention to the negative things said about the Twilight Saga, and didn't want any thing to do with it at first. But My mother rented the movie and I didn't think it was that bad at all, and then she got me Newmoon in paperback. After reading it, me and my mother where hooked.
