Nintendo's Zelda 64 graphics were good because the had a sense of realality to it. They gave you a sense of "wow" every time you see them.

I think that OOT's graphics were good for it's time, just like TP's graphics are good for today.

I personally think they look a little bad by today's standards. That's my main issue with 3d: eventually it'll look bad. Sprites always look good.

Not that 3d doesn't look amazing at the time, though. I've also never really been one to worry about graphics, so good or bad it doesn't really matter to me.

They only thing that was bad about the graphics at the time was adult Links nose was to big and sharp, Also how ganondorf's was about a foot long from the back of his head to his nose

I though that for it's time they were great. Ganon's face annoyed me though

Granted the face was a little, but even now I think that the 64 graphics were great. And granted I even like the 64-bit graphics, but these are still good even till today. I only find Twilight Princess as somewhat better. :)

Well, one thing is for sure, in the time of that console generation, OOT was really amazing compared to the other games. And i'm not talking about the graphics only.

And now after 2 console generations, its still a high rated game.
And i as for myself, yeah the graphics still amaze me.

Heck it is so good that it also came as a GC disc and even on the VC!

While the graphics today have aged quite a bit, I think they've done a decent job of being playable 2 generations later. A smooth framerate is pretty big in that department.

And I think we've gotten to the point where 3D graphics will age much better than they did with the Playstation or N64 era after their respective console generations have come and gone.

Well, when you compare the graphics to those of the older games, then the graphics are really good.

I would say they are quite good considering the technology they had back then. Think, they didn't have much tech back then so it was amazing that they got such good graphics in the game.

So ya, the Nintendo 64 Zelda games had good graphics.

The graphics were amazing for its time. After playing 2-D arcade games your whole life, you would be amazed when you fist saw Navi flying through Kokiri forest.

I think the graphics were good, especially given the time. I still think they are pretty good, even if they don't compare to other games for X-Box or Playstation two and three.
They retained a sense of realism, and moreover the colours amazed me the first time I saw them, and for a N64 game they still do. I don't judge games on graphics, but still, it can be nice to have one with 3D graphics.
Overall, I think they were pretty good, and they added depth to the game.

I think they were good because of the nice, peacefull feel to it. I especialy liked the entrance to the Forest Temple because of the peacefull feel about it.

Well, they were good for their time, that's for sure. I mean, it stepped up to a whole new era in Zelda, 3-D.

Let me say this. They are good, but if I was like 15 back then I would be like pwning graphics!

It is like in 10 years we will say the TP graphics are bad because a new Zelda Game will have graphics like halo.

They were awesome, for when the games were realesed... nowadays, they pale in comparison to WW or TP's graphics.... but the games remain great

its funny when you say good or bad. it should be classic or modern i think. oot deff had that classic sort of thing going that captivated you because it was so awesome to look at and it just invites you in. but seriously, you know when you warp to lake hylia and you are next to that tree on that hill above the puddle where the entrance to the temple is? well i put on the iron boots and hopped down and stuck to the side of the hill. i was doing rolls and everything and COULD not get off the side of the hill. even when i took the boots off :p but yeah oot and mm graphics arent as up-to-date as tp but i deff understand why ppl picked them over tp. i totally understand

For the time that the console was created, the graphics were a step up and fantastic compared to the Super Nintendo. The graphics were not only better than the Super Nintendo, but the Nintendo 64 was more or less the ending of an era with cartridges, to me making it even more impressive to have such good graphics while still using cartridges.

I think that 10 years later I still don't mind the graphics I actually like them even though they aren't the best. I remember getting my first Nintendo 64 and Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and playing it forever and still playing till today.

They might have been really good when it first came out! I remember reading reviews for the game i have called Doom.... and people were saying the graphics were amazeing.. now.. not so much ^^

Zelda still is nice to look at.. I like the old looking graphics.. but it is true that they are very aged

The N64 has excellent graphics. Just look at games like OoT, MM, BK, and GoldenEye.

Doom was coded in an odd way, not many games coded the way they did.
Dont know exactly how to describe it but i have it all in my head.
Even for its time the n64, wasnt exactly the best. I love it beacuse its Nintendo and it has all of my beloved franchises on it....except for FF :(

but the other system did have it beat to so....

And I think we've gotten to the point where 3D graphics will age much better than they did with the Playstation or N64 era after their respective console generations have come and gone.
Maby 7th gen but 6th gen really feels its age (in my point of view) already, Much of what i see on the ps2 feels somewhat, choppy :/.
The smothness of the actions is veary importent in keeping a game's look for aging, wich is why stylized games age better.

my first impression of the 64 graphics were "Man, these graphics are bad."
the first 3d zelda game i played was TP
plus, i played Oot on the gamecube
but i learned that Oot was on the N64
so now i think their good

I think they are good for its time. At the release of the n64 platform, was when mostly all of the games where 3D, So of course they where not perfect but at the time they where great graphics. Just like now the new gen. consoles have great graphics but in 20 years they will be considerd "bad".

when I played it I actually didn't CARE about the graphics but when I finally played TP and then I played OoT again I tough "gosh I never noticed the graphics of zelda Oot were that bad beside TP" but remember was 1998, those graphics were the best at that time.

I think the Zelda 64 graphics were perfectly fine. I would have even been happy with the beta graphics. When it comes right down to it, graphics don't matter to me. I would have liked to see even more Zelda titles released on the 64.

I think the graphics were great because the new games look TOO good. I like retro games more than new ones. http://www.mubos-md.com/brawlcards/cards/vxu2k7jd.png

I've always liked the blocky look to old games because of how, non relistic they are. They gave a sense of fantasy to Zelda so as to keep it away from the boundaries of realism.

Even today I think they look good. Sure they're dated, but I like to look at art style over things like poly-count and how many individual blades of grass a machine can render.

And I beg to differ with whoever said sprites always look good. 2D ftw? (http://www.videogamecritic.net/images/2600/mario_bros_.png)

At the time, they were some of the best graphics I remember seeing, especially on the N64. OoT had a wonderful pallet of colours, some great textures, and despite looking a bit blocky, still did a great job with polygon constructed characters.

Now, looking back on those graphics, they don't hold up to the graphics of today, but neither does any older game as such. Regardless, they are still fairly impressive.

I don't replay OoT and think about how horrid the graphics are in terms of being dated. Whether that's in part due to the fact that the story and gameplay overshadow the graphics by pulling you into the world, I don't know, but they must be good if within 5 minutes, you're not thinking about how dated the game looks.

I can relate to this. Whenever I start re=playing MM or OoT, the first thing that always pops into my mind is "Wow, those graphics look horrible". But like you said, after about 5 minutes (maybe even less) I've completely forgotten about them, and have started to enjoyed these classic games once again. Fun > Graphics any day, and I wish other systems *coughcoughPS3cough* would see that.

They were good during its time, they actually were really good back in then.

But sadly they are now kind of outdated compared to what we can find in games now. In that way, if you want my honest opinion I wouldn't vote good.

Out of that, the graphics worked very well with the game. They did their job and it that way I suppose they are good graphics. I agree with Amelie when she mentioned that after some years TP graphics won't look as cool as the newest game in turn, so this is expected.

I was blown away the first time around seeing the graphics of Oot and Majoras mask. I couldn't believe what Nintendo did to make these graphics. I never thought they were bad at all. Still up to this day when I play them or look at videos of them they still make me happy inside and make my jaw drop.

I loved OoT and MM's graphics. They were awesome. They are still awesome in thier own way though. They're awesome past-time-date-to-date. They were awesome then but less exciting now. But when I first saw OoT's graphics I was amazed.

For the day, great, but now I prefer Twilight Princess style graphics or Wind Waker. They're a little bit easier on the eyes.

But it's not like I can't stand to look at Majora's Mask graphics or OoT.

I guess the Nintendoīs 64 Zelda graphics was good for itīs time and in some aspects still is excellent. The world may have looked a bit rectangular at times (in OoT especially) but the characters still looked awesome I think (even though Link also looked a bit rectangular if you want to be extremly critical) and the colors were great. I actually donīt think the graphics has been much more interesting in later games (such as TP and WW), but what has been really improved is the gameplay. I started a file for OoT after I just had played TP and the controls felt akward I must say.

Dylan

I don't think they were bad, by any means.
They are still impressive today, just to think when the game was made.

To me, graphics aren't the most important factor to a video game. You have to have a good plot, fun gameplay, and most of the time some sort of replay value to the game in order to make it a really good game.

The N64 had great graphics for its time, which have been outdone for a long time now. But the N64 was really one of the last Nintendo consoles that pretty much everyone could agree that was good. It had a vast library of games that were all fun to play, and didn't discriminate against 3rd party companies. Then the GC comes along, and, well, things pretty much went downhill. But the point is that as good as the graphics were for their time in the N64 days, the main thing was the gameplay. Now, all people want to see is good graphics, and games are starting to suck. I wonder why...
