I watch whatever anime I can....but sadly our internet doesn't let us download much...AT ALL, and we don't get it on TV.
I like Vampire Knight and watch it from time to time.
Hylian Hobbit

Bleach and Bobobo-bo-bo-bobo are my favorites. There aren't many I particularly like besides those, but I watch a lot of others anyway.

I don't really watch anime. Unless you consider family guy and the simpsons to be anime.
Hylian Hobbit
12-02-2008, 12:15 PM
Nah, I don't think that would be considered anime.
Skull_Kid
12-02-2008, 12:36 PM
nope, they aren't anime... they are american cartoons... i'm a bit tired of family guy, but The Simpsons will rock 4 ever
The only anime I've ever really watched was Pokemon and Digimon.
However, Death Note was amazing from the little bit that I had seen.
Skull_Kid
12-02-2008, 01:33 PM
i completely forgot about Pokémon and Digimon...Death Note is pretty good, if you ask me,it has some great stuff going on it:)
Smitie
12-02-2008, 01:35 PM
Digimon was fun, much better than pokemon.
Skull_Kid
12-02-2008, 01:39 PM
the first and second series of digimon were fun, after that it went down the well and got crappy... pokémon has good episodes and crappy episodes, the only thing is that there are more crappy episodes than good ones
Digimon, I think the two last seasons, or maybe just the last one, Pokemon from season 1 until whenever Gold and Silver stopped, and Death Note. That show was ******* amazing.

Well I've watched quite a bit since a while back. I've seen Shakugan no Shana, Mahoraba, Shuffle!, Lucky Star, Zero no Tsukaima... Loads of stuff. I want to get the manga for Negima.
Oooo... Sailor Moon.
I used to love that show when I was little! haha

Ghost in the Hell: SAC
Ranma 1/2
Cowboy Bebop
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Azumanga Daioh
Lucky Star
Gunslinger Girl
Eva
Excel Saga

Some of that is pretty mainstream stuff. I tend to get away from that stuff (minus stuff like Azumanga Daioh and Lucky Star), and go for stuff that isn't released in America. Like stuff like Bleach, Inuyasha, Naruto, and that stuff, I won't touch.

I hope you are not pointing at me or something, because i'm not like that.
I don 't think that i'm some kinda elitist with this.
Now i know i have one long list, but please people keep in mind, that list is being kept for like 5 or 6 years. Like i said, there is nothing much on tv here, so i like to watch anime instead. But i don 't read manga or anthying else, just anime.

12-04-2008, 06:51 AM
No, not you. Linkman's statement that he avoids anything "mainstream" because it is popular here. What a stupid reason to not watch something.
I watch a lot of stuff that is released here and along with a lot of stuff that is not. I'm not going to stop watching a show or avoid it just because it may have become popular outside of Japan.

12-04-2008, 07:18 PM
I didn't infer you had to. I stated my opinion, and that was it. And above watching what the plebes watch? Where do you get this stuff? Your inferences and defensive behavior are unnecessary and confuse me to the highest degree. I don't watch mainstream; that's all I meant to say.

I watched this one anime show but I forget what it is called!!! GAWR!! It is on adult swim and it is about this guy with long gray hair with kitty ears I think he wears this red puffy outfit and has a sword and there is this cat and a girl and a little girl...

Inuyasha gets pretty good. Sometimes it drags, but I enjoy it. I watch it in Japanese with subtitles. There's a big like 30 episode major storyline towards the end of the series that gets really fascinating.

I've never been that into anime or manga, but in the past I've watching the following shows (correct me if these aren't anime :p):
PokeMon
Yu-Gi-Oh!
Sailor Moon
Digimon
Hamtaro
Hello Kitty
My favorites of this list are PokeMon and Hamtaro (I still have my Hamtaro book and a few of the Ham Hams, and I still have my PokeMon blanket).
^^ Not much, but hey - it's something! I used to also read Tokyo Mew Mew and Fruits Basket, which I know is manga.

Hamtaro, that theme song is so annoying >.<
Yu-Gi-Oh! I also liked that show, but sometimes it was a bit vague
Anime and Dutch tv don't match I think. All the kids channels here are filled with cheap, crappy series (except fairly odd parents, which is awesome, but not anime) and I think the only anime left is pokemon -.-

Holland has the Fairly Oddparents? That's an American show. :)
The only channel that I know of that has anime here is Cartoon Network, which has anime on past like 10:00 PM. (Great, huh? I go to bed at 10:00, so no anime for me outside of DVD's and internet.)

Cartoon network isn't a standard channel, you have to pay extra to get it. And why are you so surprised that we have american shows on dutch tv (it's not that because we live in europe, we have to watch european tv shows ;)). Even America has one dutch show.

Chidori was the one who said to watch school days and gantz, while i said reccomended speed grapher to him. :D
Anyway, for now i'm taking a little break with watching anime.
And next to that, there are some ungoing titles (most of them second seasons) right now, so i'm also watching that:
Gundam 00 (a second season)
Clannad After story (a second season)
Ef - A tale of melodies (a second season)
Nodame Cantabile Paris (a second season)

Oh yeah, I watched Lucky Star. Good show that doesn't mean anything. It's sort of like Azumanga Daioh, except better. Konata is the main personality of that show. Believe me when I say the first few episodes are confusing and pointless, but it gets better.

I'm generally a really big fan of anime. As for what kinds, I generally prefer Shonen anime, and generally ones with science fiction or fantasy aspects. I also prefer anime with no fanservice, or at least minimal fanservice.
I currently watch: Naruto, Bleach, Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit, Scrapped Princess.
My favorites of all time are: Fullmetal Alchemist, ScRYed, Noein: To Your Other Self, Samurai 7, as well as Naruto, Bleach and One Piece.
Other ones I've seen and liked (I'm missing several, I can't think of them all) are: Blood +, Yu Yu Hakusho, Arjuna, Argento Soma, Shingu, Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, Trigun, Blue Gender, Kenshin, Shaman King, Getbackers, Digimon: Digital Monsters, Death Note... and others.
I also loved Teen Titans and Avatar: The Last Airbender, even though they were "American anime."

It combines a lot of Asian and Oriental cultural styles. I believe all the writing is Chinese.
There are elements of Tibetan monks, Chinese culture, Japanese Culture, Indian culture, and other stuff in Avatar.
The Earth Kingdom is mostly Chinese in design, I believe, while the Fire Nation is mostly Japanese.
(By the way, anime is Japanese animation, not Chinese. I consider Avatar an "American anime," because it has so many aspects in common with anime. I still consider it one even though it's American.)

Oh yes i remember this one.
But Moo Moo, youtube will often delete this anime episodes regarding the copyright when its licenced. they are really strict about this. also most of the time its split in parts.
Now normaly its against the rules to advertise other sites, but for this time, i guess it can 't harm.
Normaly i use Veoh (www.veoh.com), there are lot of people who upload it there and its not split in parts. And its quality is really good and free.
There are more sites like this, for instance:
Megavideo (problem is, not 2 long ago, after wathing like 72 minutes, you have to wait a hour to watch again for free)
Imeem (great quality but it takes a while to load)
Crunchyroll (you have to register for this, but after licenced videos are removed)
There are all also a bunch of Anime sites who upload entrire series (they link Veoh vids, Megavideo Vids ect.)
Even if a anime is licenced, they alter the title so people can 't find it, so thats a good thing.

I would like to say that if anyone here hasn't seen Scrapped Princess, they really should. At first it looks like another medieval fantasy anime, but there's a LOT more to it, and it gets really intriguing pretty quickly.
It also has a much deeper story than it seems like at first. I've almost finished watching it, and it's one of my favorite anime of all time now!

Yes there are more medieval or medieval/fantasy animes. In fact there is alot
My 2 Favorites in that genre would be Claymore and Beserker(a old anime).

Anime is the one reason I don't watch cartoons anymore, much more detailed art and better animation, also, more plot (please don't take offense if you do watch it, I still love Simpsons and Family Guy, and maybe others too xD) The other being that I grew out of it.
But I love anime, especially magic girl and fantasy. My favorite one is Sailor Moon, I even like the English dub (zomg!). :-D
Yum yum, anime.
Has anyone been watching Shikabane Hime? Funimation's been uploading it to Hulu, and it's good stuff. The first few episodes you're just like, "well, okay, this is good enough I guess", but then episode five or so rolls in and you're like "WHAAAAT must watch next episode". Funimation's releasing episode 13 on Friday, and then they'll presumably begin work on bringing over season 2. *fingers crossed*
Beyond that, I've been watching Gintama on (the new and improved ALL LEGAL) Crunchyroll. That's actually a pretty hilarious show, assuming you forget about that ninja chick who can just fall off a cliff and die for all I care. And Gin's voice is so amazing.

Yeah, Lucky Star is pretty awesome (just check out my avatar). I really like the opening theme and the show is hilarious, if a little weird at times.
I watched a lot of anime when I was younger, but now, not so much. Besides Pokemon (which everyone has seen), I have tuned into Digimon, Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z, Cardcaptors, Zoids Chaotic Century, Sonic X, Yu-Gi-Oh! and Yu-Gi-Oh! GX. Of course, these were all dubs.
I've also been watching Zoids again occasionally. It's not bad, especially now that I'm old enough to understand it properly.

I agree. Some scenes in cartoons like Ren and Stimpy and Sponge Bob have many times more detail than anime does, for example in the close up still scenes.
I still find cartoons more interesting and entertaining than anime, only because they don't follow a set boring storyline; you get a variety of plots.

Well that sounds more like a generalization. Not all anime is alike. It's like regular TV, there's lots of different kinds of shows, so I'm positive that if you wanted many different plots (or even a very loose plot) you could find it in certain shows.

Fullmetal Alchemist is my favorite anime of all time. And yes, the storyline is actually completely different than the one in the manga, but it's still amazing.

Not the best anime in my opinion, nonetheless, pretty good. I liked the manga much better, but I still liked it for the interesting, and entertaining storyline. I also like the sense of humor that it contained.
Moreover, I thought it was "deeper", or at least more involved, than some other animes I've seen. I think it the beginning is a bit 'eh', but becomes much better, 'evolves', if you will, later on. I liked the character development, too.

Hmm... I don't know where you all stand on the whole dubbed verses subbed thing (with the exception of you, Oni), but I like both. I like subtitles just fine, and I appreciate the original material, but at the same time, I like to focus more on what's going on, and be able to comprehend what is being heard in my own language. With that said, I am currently watching the dub of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2. It's absolutely amazing. One of the best, if not the best, anime's I've ever had the pleasure of watching. If any of you anime fans here haven't seen Code Geass, I suggest you pick it up right away.

It depends if the subs suit with the characters.
For instance, the subs for Gundam Wing and Dragonball Z are well made.
In fact i do not like the original voices of Dragonball Z.
But most of the time i watched subbed. Its not that i'm tottaly against dub, but most of the time the dub sucks. At least that is my opinion.

but most of the time the dub sucks.
That is the case with a lot of dubs. But as of late, they're getting better and better at it, and they're actually really good quality dubs now.
Code Geass
Bleach
Fullmetal Alchemist
Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit
All very well done dubs, for example. The problem that with dubs, that I've noticed, is that a lot of the voices sound forced. Almost like they're trying way too hard to sound like the original VA. But when they don't do that, the voices are superb.

And yeah, those ones you listed have good dubs because they're on American TV. (except the last one, I think). Anything that's not on American TV almost always has horrid dubs.

For a while, I would only watch anime with english dubs. I didn't care what it was, or how good the voice acting was, it just had to be dubbed. But after sucking it up and watching a lot of Bleach, which I've been unable to find dubbed versions, I've come to appreciate the originals a lot more. Now I almost prefer the Japanese versions. With some exceptions of course.
Like last night I was watching Bleach on Veoh, and came across an episode that was in english. But it didn't seem very natural, and like they were trying too hard. The voices in themselves were good, and fit the characters well, but again, it didn't sound very natural. Though it may be because I suddenly switched from one language to the other that made it sound weird. It is hard to get used to a voice when it drastically changes out of the blue.

On the topic of dub/sub, when I watch anime I usually have the dub playing. I'm not so picky with voice acting and translations as some people are, but the primary reason for me watching in English is simply because I'm normally doing other things while I watch. I can't surf the Internet, or work on websites, or do anything really if I'm watching it in Japanese. In Japanese, I have to focus on the show and read the subtitles and sometimes I do. But with only a few hours a day of free time after work, I tend to go for the English and play it in picture-in-picture while I chat and surf or whatever.
As for what I enjoy, lately I've been watching Gurren Lagann. I also bought a slimpack of DNAngel a while back and finished watching that a week ago. Other favorites of mine are Neon Genesis Evangelion, MyHiME, Genshiken, Kodocha, and Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle. :)

A few months back I started watching Bleach subbed. I've noticed that the voice work is better than what Viz is producing. Don't get me wrong, they do good work, but it seems a little out of place. Maybe that's just because the dub is in the is so horrible Bount Arc right now. Seems to me like they don't work as hard on filler... Some voices in the dub, I like better actually. Like Kenpachi, and Byakuya. Their dub voices seem to fit more with the characters. Others though, aren't that great. Like Ririn and Yachiru for example. Hmm... I don't know. I guess when it really comes down to it, I like them both equally.

Inuyasha is better than I thought it'd be, CSR ain't too bad, and I can't really get into Soul Eater. It's too weird, crazy, and perverse for my tastes. Strangest anime I've ever seen.

Wow, I thought I posted here.
OK, I also like to stay away from mainstream, but it's really personally opinion on what's mainstream or what's not. Anyway, I always watch my anime Sub, I really hate Dubbed. It just doesn't feel originally, and I know Moosh and I really like Sub. I listen to English enough already, so it's nice to here another language. And some anime, like Sailor Moon, the Dubbed version is quite different from the originally.
Anyway the Sub-Dub fight could go on for forever, so... My favourite anime of all time is Lucky Star, I also watch the Kirby anime and Sailor Moon. I also watch Bleach and Naruto from time to time, but I wouldn't say I'm a fan of them. I know that Moosh really likes Kirby also, so it's cool to talk about it with her.

Yeah, I was kinda the same way before I watched it. I had heard a lot of good stuff about it, so I figured I'd give it a try. But I stopped after the first episode. It just didn't seem worth it.

Yes! Another Lucky Star fan. Our numbers are spreading. >=D
It would seem that I have sort of ranged tastes sometimes. I mean, I like shows like Death Note, where it's a bit serious and has a high level of intelligence and deductive reasoning in it, and then I can enjoy random shows like Lucky Star, which are much more upbeat. Anyone else notice that about themselves?

You know, as i read back the titles you watched, you have a taste for particular genres havn't you?
My guess would be: Comedy, School Life, Slice of Life, Drama, Romance and sometimes Action.
For me, well i watch all kinda genres but my fave genres is the one i mentioned before.
But the genres i avoid are Yaoi and Yuri. -.- i guess some people like to watch that stuff, for me...no way!

Ha, I guess it would seem I do have a certain genre, huh? You pretty much hit the nail right on the head. I do tend to like the average schooldays, romance, and drama stuff. I also like fantasy though. You see, I like action as much as other people do, just not a whole lot of it.
I think you'll watch pretty much anything. You're pretty open-minded towards anime, I think. And I agree with you on your last point. NO Yuri/Yaoi. :)

Well, my first choice of genres would be the same as you. But i watched a lot of anime with those genres, so watching them in a row can become boring. Thats why i also try watching other genres.
Basicly, i google (redirected to either animesnetwork or wikipedia)
the title first before it watch them first. So that i can have an idea if its a title of worth watching.

That makes sense. When I want to watch a new show, sometimes I look up a specific seiyuu (that is, if I really liked that person) and whatever show they've done, I watch. Note that's not always the way I watch anime, but that's what I do once in a while.
Other times I search by genre, or I go to sites like animeplanet and look at my favorite anime, and then it'll tell me what shows I might like that are similar.

Afro Samurai

Lucky Star
Devil May Cry
I also watched the first episode of Dragon Ball Kai, but it was no different from the original. Except for the fact the japanese dub was terrible. So I probably won't spend any time watching the rest of it. I know it's supposed to be different, and that it's going to follow the original manga more closely, but still. No, that's not laughable, I used to watch Yugioh as well. It used to be a really great show (Like when it wasn't Yugioh GX and whatnot). However, us in America don't have much of a choice when it comes to voice-overs, so we had English all the time. The only voice that was pretty good was adult Yugi, imo.

The new series looks like crap, though. They duel on motorcycles now. >.<
Anyway... yeah, the acting as well as some of the dialogue can be kind of bad, but it's fairly entertaining. I might recommend looking up "Yu-Gi-Oh the Abridged Series" on Youtube. I never watched too much of it, but what I did watch was pretty amusing. :xd:

I found out not to long ago that Akira is going to be made into a live action movie and so is Neon Genesis Evangelion. By the looks of Evangelion that one is going to be good. You've gotta be careful with live action movies sometimes though. I usually take them with a grain of salt, or so to speak. They've been good in the past, like for example the Death Note live action films were decent; but there have also been some pretty poor ones. Look at the newest one: Dragonball Evolutions or whatever it's called. Biggest flop in DB history.

I tried watching K-On since there has been a huge Japanese craze over it (and thus a huge American craze over it by those who wish they were Japanese) and I honestly found it painful to watch. I had to force myself to sit down through two episodes and I even tried the third but I felt that my brain was going to melt. I felt the same way at first with Lucky Star as well, although that improved with me. I think it's just because they put too much moe and not even close to enough story in it. I just want to know from someone who watches that if it will continue on its little moe spree or if it actually will get into music bits and story, because if not I find it really sad that Japan got crazed over that.

Out of curiousity... have any of you ever seen the older anime, Record of Lodoss War? The artwork, while a much older style, is still quite beautiful. It was released in the early 90's, so yes, it's quite cheesy. Still it has an amazing story, beautiful designs, and wonderful characters. One of the main reasons I love it so much is because the main characters look like, guess..... ZELDA characters! Deedlit is very similar to Princess Zelda, Parn is much like the classic Link, and Emperor Beld looks (and acts) like Ganondorf. If you haven't seen it, I definitely suggest it!

I used to hate anime when I was quite a bit younger. I watched DBZ and Gundam Wing on Cartoon Network and I thought they were the dumbest shows ever. It took a friend to have me watch Spirited Away with her to actually see that anime actually had a storyline and was intriguing.

People that don't usually watch anime are usually of the opinion that all anime is the same. I would guess that was the same with you at some point, where you thought after seeing DBZ and Gundam Wing, that it was all lame. People tend to generalize with things they aren't exposed to. One of my friends is like that.

Watch more anime. Really, it's rare to find anime that is the same. Unlike the western world, Japan uses animation in EVERYTHING- comedy, romance, sci-fi, horror, mystery, etc. The west uses it mainly for the kids (and/or comedy) and shows more interest in CG and realism. Just as we have a buttload of different shows and movies for different genres, so does Japan... but they are more willing to put their artists to work instead of focusing mainly on hiring actors.
Miyazaki is a genius, but he's not the only one. Katsuhiro Otomo is another creative genius, as is Osamu Tezuka (whom you can thank for anime/manga).

I love that about anime. There is really something for everyone. And even if I don't care for the story line or genre of a show, I might still watch it just to see the incredible animation.

Oh, don't worry, I'm an otaku who actually took time out of his life to learn some Japanese solely for the purpose of watching the stuff. XD
I've done a school report on the American tradition of animation and the conflict between Western styles and Eastern styles, and how both have influenced each other, so I do know a fair bit on the subject. I've practically grown up on the stuff. I remember Pokemon, Tenchi Muyo, Sailor Moon, Digimon, Rurouni Kenshin, Dragon Ball Z, etc. etc. the list of stuff I watched as a child is long. Of course nowadays I watch a very different set of anime than I did back in the day (since back then they either didn't exist or never got translated).
Right now I'm excited for the new season of Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei to come out.

I recently finished Ga Rei Zero. I recommend seeing it, but only if you are mature enough, since there is a LOT of blood (so much that it got censored... in Japan!) and the occasional nudity (some of it got censored, not all).
It also is a very nice break from the terrible second season of Haruhi; watch this show instead of that.

Yeah, what's going on with the second season of Haruhi Suzumiya? I watched Haruhi Suzumiya's first season and loved it, and now I'm up to the 7th episode on the second season and I'm thinking, "They had better have something absolutely epic happen to save their skins."

Hmm... I watch anime, I was quite the otaku at one time.
I Prefer Subbed Anime but, there are few series I like better Dubbed.
I think that My Absolute Favorite Series By A Very Long Shot and Of All Time or at least until I see one I like more... IS... Code Geass R1 and R2. Especially R2. I even named my Gamertag after R2.
My favorite Genres are Comedy, Action-Adventure, Drama, Science Fiction, and Mecha
The Series I watched most recently is Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann which has to be my second favorite.
Genres are Mecha, Action, Adventure and Comedy-Drama
I give the Series a 9.5 out of ten. I only took the .5 off because of the extremely cheesy Mecha battles which aren't bad but seemingly impossible things happen during them which is what I didn't like. i.e. weapons appearing from no where etc.
A few other Animes I liked:
Naruto and Naruto Shippuuden (one of my favorites)
Bleach (one of my favorites)
OutLaw Star (my favorite older anime)
Cowboy Bebop
Death Note ( I only Liked the 1st half, I kinda lost track not long after. But the last few episodes were epic!)
Kanon
School Rumble (I liked season 2 the best)
(All) Full Metal Panic!
FullMetal Alchemist
Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi (seemed incomplete)
Clannad and Clannad AfterStory
Lucky Star (I liked the hilarious "Lucky Channel" bit at the end of each episode the most)
Samurai X
Etc. I couldn't name all the ones I liked even if I tried
I switched to Naruto and Bleach Manga because I got tired of filler.

Heh. I watched the first couple of episodes several months ago, and then went on a retreat for a week right after that. And by the time I started watching anime again, I was catching up on Bleach. =P So I'm getting back into it again.
Even though it's a really girly anime, I find the random conversations and such hilarious. Not to mention the Lucky Channel at the end. The show usually gives me a good laugh when I watch it. =P

Lately I've been watching:
Gurren Lagann
Ouran Highschool Host Club
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Bleach
I've almost finished both Gurren Lagann and Ouran. I've recently added them to my favorite list of alltime favorite anime. Gurren Lagann is just amazing. Funny, cool, action-packed, ridiculous, and dramatic. It's great, and I love the characters.
I almost hate it that I love Ouran. It's totally not what I normally watch (hell, I outright avoid most highschool anime... or even just real-world anime.) But it really reeled me in. It's crazy, hilarious, and the characters are great. The last couple of episodes have been especially good. I only have two more episodes to go, and it looks like they're going to be great as well. The dramatic, character development episodes have really surprised me, but they're just as great as the rest of the series.
FMA: Brotherhood is awesome. Just as good if not better than the first series, which I loved to death.
Bleach is still bad-***... although the recent filler episodes have been irritating. It was amazing just prior to them, though, so once it returns to the canon storyline, it ought to blow me away again. :D

Naruto (+ shippuden)

Claymore
Fate / Stay Night
Fruits Basket

I can't remember if I posted before, this is more of a self-conformation of the anime I've seen so I don't forget it.

Ok, I recently finished Gurren Lagann, which is a great anime, although a bit "over the top" as it were (I mean seriously, drills, "Spiral Beings"). The concepts are interesting and sort of make sense though...
I also finished watching Law of Ueki, which was kinda interesting, but nothing special.
I half watched Rental Magica, which I guess is good but a little boring for me.
I've also finished watching the first series of Haruhi Suzumiya, which was good apart from the messed up chronological order of the episodes. I'm currently watching the second series, and quite frankly I can't see why they thought a "time loop" scenario would warrant what is effectively the repetition of the same episode over and over again. That is the cheapest way of episode making I've ever seen.

I loved the parallels they drew between such random items like that. It's really out there, but it makes sense.
It is terribly bland in middle of the series though, but it picks up and makes up for it all during the last few episodes.

I love anime and manga! Death Note, One Piece, and +Anima are some examples of what I like. I used to like Naruto and Bleach, but I kinda grew out of them. They fail to keep me interested anymore. But One Piece, in my opinion, is the best manga ever made. Good story-line, good characters, and a lot of uniqueness. Death Note is also very cool. I watched the anime, but have yet to read the manga. +Anima is manga only, and the translations were discontinued, sadly enough. It's a good manga, and I hope some translators somewhere pick it up again. School Days also gets mention here.
