I think this is just another one of those questions that doesn't have an answer, like the "When Link draws his Sword...." thread. Physics aren't very realistic in video games. I mean, imagine Link carrying this bulging bag full of all of his items. That wouldn't work too well. Nintendo can't really make a realistic explanation for this, it's just one of those things in a lot of video games.

small link and i play zelda rpgss outside w/t our own rules, and we have a "item bank" where we store all our items

Well its not real. After all, it is just a video game. how does he pick up rubies just by stepping on them. How can he hold 99 bombs in one little bag and get a bomb just by reaching in his pocket? Its not real.

a little thing called hammerspace. look it up on wikipedia

shadowscrub

maybe, he has a magical bag that holds millions of items

zeldusfanaticus

thats the definition of hammerspace

oh, i didnt know that that is how link does it

Lol, pretty funny ZF. /revelation! THAT'S how Buggs Bunny does it! :D
But yeah, that's the best explanation.

According the cartoon (which I would never use as a real reference for anything Zelda related), Link has a bag and when he puts an item in it, it shrinks down to a who knows how small size for easy storage.

How does he find whatever he is looking for if everything is micro-small.

He has a pouch on his belt. DUH.

But in all seriousness they probably didn't think it was important enough a factor to implement an explanation into the game.

in the old legend of zelda cartoons, he has a little bag and all his items shrink to fit inside of it.

I was going to make this thread! But anyways, it is one of those questions with no answer other than IT IS A VIDEO GAME. As you know, a video game is not real. I will make a post like this, watch out for it! It's a funny one.

There are SO many games like this.
To me I just figure that all video game characters have abnormaly large pockets and are extreamly strong as to not let it way you down.

Why do threads like these keep popping up?! ><

Its a GAME! We cant answer where his items go! Maybe the disapear in his shoes! Or he is hollow and all his items go inside his body! (oh wait.. he IS hollow)

Do you remember those awful legend of zelda cartoons ages ago ? the ones hwere he kept saying " excuuuuuuuuuuuse me, princess!" ?
He held his hand near his belt and his item of choice magically appeared in his hand. Maybe that sort ofd thing happens in the zelda games, except we dont see. Although, look at this.

He has lots of stuff on his back there. maybe he has a large bag.
Edit : something I just realised...He must be really strong ot carry all that....maybe he can carry it becuaseo f his power bracelet/ ( see the wrist that connects to the hand that connects to the sword )

darn just like Amelie said its a game>.< so well anything can happen(except for link diengD:)and these thread do get really annoying and for those who beleive he has a big pocket beileve what you wanna beleive but in a different thread this guy said that like like thread was kinda like arguing over if pols voices are mammles or not anyways it a game bottom line It's a game (dicussion closed) if I was a mod this would be closed but I do not have Mod powers

Bokbok567

Maybe navi shrinks it down for him....lol. Anyway its a video game it doesn't really need to have an explanation for everything.

It's a game (dicussion closed) if I was a mod this would be closed but I do not have Mod powers

That argument would kill just about every thread in this section. So I don't really care for it.

It's the "item pouch" phenomenon. It happens in every game. It's impossible to explain, and it will never be answered. Nonetheless, I will throw in random theories:

Fairies creating magical pocket dimensions? Empty bottles?

Amelie
02-14-2009, 06:08 PM
I like the idea about Navi shrinking them. But of course.. he is hollow.. so maybe he just puts the items in him.. well.. he kind of actually does!

Maybe he even keeps some items under his hat =D

bellum
02-14-2009, 06:40 PM
well I dont think Navi can shrink them but she is a fairy :S well maybe he stores it in an invisible like like

Amelie
02-14-2009, 08:34 PM
Ooo! An invisable like like is a great idea! I was just thinking to.. what if they magically disapear to the owls claws and he has to carry them around all the time...

Good torture for him because he annoys me so much! Whacky idea.. I know >>

bellum
02-14-2009, 08:46 PM
ah yes maybe Kaepora Gaebora (the owl) carries his stuff like in a bank and every time he annoys link he also drops of some of his items

Axle the Beast

And suddenly: Like Like's become important!

that HAS to be how he does it, i alwasys wonderd how he did it as well (play oot without a sheild and it will do the same as if you have a sheild)

Maybe he hides it inside his (http://callistohime.deviantart.com/art/The-Hat-Volume-I-30619021)hat (http://fc09.deviantart.com/fs10/f/2006/089/e/7/060330.jpg).

Myself I just think it is 'magic-satchel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hammerspace)'. Which is basically that they take it out of no-where.

04-27-2009, 04:59 PM
I always liked the way they handled it on the cartoon, where the item was small and would grow to the standard size when it was caleld upon. It sort of falls into the magic satchel theory I suppose, but moreso plays on the idea that the items themselves are magical.

I always thought that old image of him walking with all of the items on his back was funny. Just how does he effectively fight with all of that gear? I doubt he asks for a time-out before each fight to put everything down first.

I know that this isnt canon, but in the TV show, Link has a bag that things just magically go into and come out of.

I've never played Dungeons and Dragons, but according to those I know who play it, a very standard item in that game is a "Bag of Holding" which defies the laws of natural physics (but has its own limiting rules).

I just always figured that Link has some Bags of Holding on him - his pouches and satchels.

Then, in Twilight Princess, I believe Midna at one point outright states something about storing his stuff (Ordon sword and shield) - shadow magic hammerspace.

Then, also when I was playing Twilight Princess, my fiance' was watching as I stowed away the Ball and Chain and shouted out an old, ooooold Transformers cartoon and toy fandom joke: "STORAGE SHUNT!"

It's just like any other game with an inventory. A pants pocket can carry a hookshot, bow, hammer, etc. There is no answer, as many people have already stated.

ShellShocker
05-02-2009, 02:48 AM
Link has a bottomless pocket....

But seriously: Who knows? Many people wonder, but there is no answer. Well, not yet anyway. Maybe an invisible person carries them. Maybe he can pull then out of thin air. Maybe he hides them under his hat. There are so many posibilities.

Matt

The games are all about magic. And Hylians are supposed to have magical abilities in their blood. So maybe shrinking items down to a small size to fit in a small pouch is one of them.

Zemen
05-04-2009, 09:11 AM
Maybe an invisible person carries them.

Then how does the invisible man carry the items. That would just open up a whole other set of questions :D

I love how you comment on his thing about the Zelda show and not mine! lol anyway, like I said like 4 posts ago, in the show he had a magical bag. He could take out and put in anything he wanted to and it would fit.

It's only a VIDEOGAME!!! :P

I'm assuming it's a Bag of Holding or something similar. Maybe his hat, or something. TP has a canon explanation- Midna stores it. The only stuff you have before Midna is a fishing rod, a slingshot, and a bottle, so that's easy enough.

Other Links probably use some magic thing. Or maybe the ToC allows near-infinite storage space for some arcane reason. I dunno, but it's mostly MAGIC DOODS

Master Kokiri 9
08-31-2009, 05:22 PM
I think that the only 'item' behind links shield is his sword. My guess of how he carries his weapons is that he has them in his hat or he has infinite pockets. But we'll probably never know.

1. How does Link run everywhere?
2. How does he roll so much without getting dizzy? (curse PH and ST)
3. How do you kill a majority of bosses by just hitting their head, eye, butt, etc. etc.
4. How do.......

Simple answer. It's a game!

http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/0/0e/Link_LOZ_with_items.png

Link in the original Zelda did this. However, for most other Zelda titles it is unexplained. The "decent" Zelda cartoons did manage to explain why by having Link have a magic pouch with infinite space.

However, the most logical answer to this is simply: It's a video game.

Zelda Freak

In Video Game logic, he has a magical bag filled with all of his items, that was given to him by someone or something.

In Life logic, it's a Video Game.

Link can carry so many itens behind his back for the exact same reason Solid Snake can hold an AK-47 and a rocket launcher in his belt.

Retro Ganon
03-03-2010, 10:56 AM
Maybe he is just pulling them out of his ***?

No, but seriously.

It always seems like Link pulls things out from the upper portion of his back (at least in OoT and TP). I always thought they came out of his hat, meaning that the items sort of shrinked much like the Gnats Hat's ability in FS - Only I know its meant to shrink the person wearing it, but who is to say it cant work the other way with items for other kinds of hats?

athenian200
03-03-2010, 11:06 AM
Maybe the items aren't as big as they look and are enlarged so we can see them better? Suppose the Megaton Hammer is just the size of a regular hammer, the bottle is about the size of a glass, the Deku Sticks are more like small sticks than branch-size, etc. There is a limited amount of space on Link's item screen, so that implies he must have a backpack of some kind.

Also, he probably has pouches hanging from his belt for all the smaller items besides arrows, which he keeps in a quiver on his back (but which isn't seen). A backpack, a quiver, and a few pouches that aren't seen could explain all of his item storage issues.

nayru
03-03-2010, 01:44 PM
in hyrule everyone knows at least a little magic so that why link can hide his items so well n get them out just as easy too plus thats why Ganon wants hyrule so much hes a evil wizard who wants all the magic for himself but as the triforce says evil is the path u choose but evildoers all ways lose. refearing to Ganon.

hammerspace hat... his hat is an infinate space storage area... in mm, he loses al the items when he goes back in time, because he forgot what sector of the hat he was in... woa... i just had a vision, of a zelda game in links hat! it would be an epic shadow temple!

The Shadow

I'm sure I have seen before Link holding his tunic around the neck when he holds up and item (In OoT) like the chicken, so it could be Link stores all his item in his tunic, that would explain why he can't use most items in MM as a Goron or Zora or Deku, cuz he has no tunic to store it all in.

think of this- OoT items makes sense... WW items are smaller versions. could they be the same and who restet them?

If you've ever seen the series, though I don't think this explains it for the games, the items shrink when their in his pouch, but grow when he takes them out.

I think they could easily justify this if they wanted to in a Zelda game. It's all about placement and explanation I suppose. Instead of just having a Ball and Chain the size of a goron, have it be a magical Ball and Chain that can be condensed, etc. If it's just proposed as some regular old Ball and Chain, it just doesn't sound the same. If the items have a magical aspect to them, one can't really argue or question its ability as far as magic goes.

I thought it'd always be cool/fun/more realistic to start Link out with a limited amount of space to show that his rear, or back, or shield, or whatever isn't magical in itself, because I don't recall the Hero of Time ever being spoke of for his anal storage capacity. So players would obviously have to strategize which items they may need. Of course there will still be some exaggeration; for instance, players would be allowed an extra pair of boots, 2 major weapons, 1 shield, and other smaller trinkets that don't make one wonder "Where on earth is all of this stored?"
....and then eventually later on in the game Link obtains a magic pouch that eliminates all skeptical approaches...or heck, just make Link recieve the magic pouch at the beginning of the game. Usually he only gets a sword and shield...and clothes, but if you throw in magic pouch, then it's golden.
