What song do you think is most epic? I think Lux Aeterna is the most epic song ever. It's a freakin' sweet orchestral piece from the 2000 movie "Requiem for a Dream." It's so popular, that when you type in Requiem for a Dream on Youtube it's the only song you'll see for pages and pages!

No no no, the most "epic" song by definition is, indeed, Preliator by Globus. Globus is so awesome; Orchard of Mines is way up there for me too.

You've both got it wrong:
Coming Home by Coheed and Cambria is easily the most epic song ever.

That song always depresses me. Probably because of its association with the movie. But its sooo heavy emotionally on its own. It's a great song.

I don't know how you could argue with Lux Aeterna, It is truly an epic song. That said, it isn't my favorite song( It's pretty close though), but for the epic sub-category, It hasn't been beaten yet.

Haha, John Cage. I actually wrote a philosophy paper on that piece. Had to relate it to a philosophical theory. My teacher really like the idea! (but i didn't get a good grade XD)

I don't know what is the "most epic song ever," but I do know several epic songs.
I will stick to actual songs. Movie soundtracks and classical music (including opera), are inherently epic and we would be here all day if I actually included those in my list.
I will start with "2112," a hard rock/metal/prog masterpiece from Rush. Listen to the whole song and you might get why this 20-minute epic is so highly praised by Rush, Prog, and Metal fans the world over.

Part 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iY9Xy9nuP-8&feature=related) and Part 3 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkSbncZyiGc&feature=related)
"...And the meek shall inherit the earth."
This song takes place in a science-fiction-inspired future where liberty is absent and the "Priests of the Temples of Syrinx" oversee all human activity. A member of this society discovers a guitar and makes music, but the priests decry his discovery. Dejected, he returns home and has a dream of a grand future where the creators of the instrument return to their home planet and liberate all of the people dwelling there. Unable to bear his reality, he kills himself, but soon after the Elder Race actually does return home and tear down the temples. It's a great individualist treatise, inspired in large part by Ayn Rand, and the music flows very well. The climax is unbelievable.
"I stand atop a spiral stair
An oracle confronts me there
He leads me on light years away
Through astral nights, galactic days
I see the works of gifted hands
That grace this strange and wondrous land
I see the hand of man arise
With hungry mind and open eyes"
The amount of passion and emotion in this song, as well as the subject matter, makes it nearly unparalleled (in my view) among metal/rock epics. The riffs are incredible, and the lyrics, while cheesy, convey a powerful story. Geddy Lee's singing is the subject of much scorn for people who dislike Rush, but I think his shrill vocals actually benefit this song, and all of the instrumentation is perfect. This is an unabashed hard rock, damn near heavy metal rock opera, so shameless that it actually starts with a thunderclap. I love it.
There are other examples of "epic songs," but I'll let my opinion rest there for now.

The most epic song is without a doubt Six Degrees of Inner turbulence by Dream Theater, FORTY-TWO MINUTES of pure epicness.

Of course, that's just my opinion, but I daresay a pretty darn good one.

I should point out that "2112" by Rush, which I posted on the last page, helped inspire prog metal in general and thus helped lead to Dream Theater.
While I like Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, it's always felt more like a medley than a single song to me. A Change of Seasons is far better in that regard, and also does not suffer from the (in my opinion) cumbersome opening of Six Degrees.

Also, Transatlantic, featuring Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy, also writes pretty epic material. They recently churned out a nearly-80-minute epic called "The Whirlwind." It definitely qualifies.
The Trooper by Iron Maiden the best song by the best band.

Epic means a lot of different things. MY terms of epic are "The Light and the Glass" by Coheed and Cambria but also "The New Workout Plan" by Kanye West. It all just depends. Haha.

Probably Untitled #8 by Sigur Rós
It's awfully slow for a while, but when it turns at around 6 minutes in, it sort of sets the mood for the rest of the song. Around 7:40 it sort of turns again and starts to build up, until about 9:25 when it just explodes. Those ****ing druuums ;; 9:25 to the end is just phenomenal to me.
