So I noticed a lot of threads I post in music don't get replied to very much. I am thinking maybe it is because a lot of the bands I talk about are not known well here.

So I thought that a discussion of the band Gorillaz would be nice. They are a "virtual band" created by musician Damon Alburn (Blur) and artist Jamie Hewlett (Tank Girl). They incorporate hip-hop, pop, punk, rock, dub, and other genres into their music. They have released three full length records and 2 collections of B-sides.

Who likes this band? What records do you like? Do you like their newest release, Plastic Beach?

Notable singles from each of their records:
Clint Eastwood (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1V_xRb0x9aw)
Feel Good Inc. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HyHNuVaZJ-k)
Stylo (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9vAOzYz-Qs)

I love the Gorillaz, though I think they're an acquired taste.
Takes a little getting used-to, but once you do they're great.
I loved Plastic Beach, my favorite songs are Super Fast Jellyfish and White Flag.

They're alright. My girlfriend had a phase where she adored them and as a result I came into possession of all of their albums. One of the things I noticed, however was that their music had a tendency to become redundant after a short while, if anyone knows what I mean. I will admit that the songs are varied and refreshing. The concept of a "virtual band" is interesting as well. I think my favorite album would have to be Demon Days, and my favorite songs would be El Maņana and Dare off of that album and Clint Eastwood off of their eponymous debut album.

Even though I like Gorillaz greatly, which is very rare considering their Genre, I do agree that they can get a bit redundant with some of their music. I can still listen to the entire album of Demon Days and enjoy every song however, such a Feel Good Inc. and O' Green World, whilst Clint Eastwood has to be one of the best songs I can think of outside of the Rock/Alternative Genre. It was a great song, and I can remember the first time I saw the video and thinking how weird it was when I was about 8 or 9. It's the video that actually made me remember the song and get back into listening to Gorillaz funnily enough. I think they are a great band, although the fact they are 'virtual band' as PJDEP phrased it, it something that I like, no other bands that I can recall have ever done it before, so it's something new. Newt is an awesome looking character. =D

They're quite good, though I'm pretty sure I liked their music better back in 2001 when they released that album (named untitled, I guess...or just Gorillaz), the only cd I have of their discography so far. Anyway, I believe they're starting to get repetitive with these few new songs, and somewhat falling into a certain musical style, which I think they lacked before (what was, in my opinion, good, for their songs would please different people in different ways).
About the 'new' album all I can say is that tracks such as To Binge and Plastic Beach still sound different, innovative and fantastic to me. As to the rest of it, I've never been into hip-hop and stuff like that, so I guess I can't judge it fairly. Oh, and by the way, Demon Days, despite being awesome, is what I'd like them to stick to as a musical group, as to their style.

There are moments when their songs seem to be repetitive. I think all in all they have had completely solid releases. All the genres they do, they do quite well. The MC's they have featured in there rap songs are incredible, including Del, Doom, De La Soul, Snoop, and Mos Def. The guests that appear on Plastic Beach are great too. (Mick Jones and Paul Simonon from the Clash! Lou Reed! AWESOME).
