I think most people in the past decade have come under the impression that Emo sucks. But I believe that is because they hate what they think the genre is. So I was wondering who out there really enjoys emo?

And for those of you who are haters I would recommend some of these bands (that are not My Chemical Romance or Fallout Boy):

I think the stereotype of an emo person gives the genre a bad rap. For the record, I actually appreciate quite a few emo artists. Rites of Spring, Fugazi and At the Drive-in are some of my favorite bands, and they are typically categorized as emo, although they have little in common with emo bands nowadays. Also, some of the new "emo" bands aren't terrible. I liked most of MCR's first album and most of AFI's stuff is good as well. It's a sketchily defined genre, IMO.

I agree that is a sketchily defined genre. I think 90s and 2000's emo are completely different genres themselves. And also, YO NICE bands listed. Rites of Spring, Fugazi, At the Drive-in, solid bands.
