As with any story, not every moment is going to satisfy every person. The plot may go against expectations, a character may develop inappropriately, or a conflict may resolve in a disappointing way. There are no doubt a few story moments in the Zelda series that left us disappointed, so we feel it’s time to discuss how and why these moments affected us in such a way.

Because of the personal nature of this debate, answers will certainly vary from person to person. With that said, I was personally disappointed with Link’s quest to claim the Triforce in Skyward Sword. Late in the game, Link travels into Sky Keep, a dungeon hidden under Skyloft, to obtain the “ultimate power” within. This power is obviously the Triforce, which is unrelentingly talked up and alluded to in other Zelda games. Skyward Sword marks the first time that the player can actually obtain the Triforce in-game, so one would expect a degree of bombastic fanfare to accompany Link’s legendary feat. Nope, rather Link collects the three Triforce pieces and the traditional “Item Get” theme plays.

As a seasoned Zelda fan, I was very much letdown when I actually obtained the Triforce and made my wish. This moment unfortunately did not live up to the numerous legends and deep lore surrounding the triangles as seen in other games. I suppose watching the Triforce shine over Skyloft was cool visually, but the event was simply not satisfying to the actual narrative. It definitely did not stand up to the dramatic climax of Wind Waker, when Hyrule’s King got his hands on the Triforce.

But that’s just my example. What was your most disappointing plot moment in a Zelda game? What about this moment was such a letdown for you? Let us know in the comments, and Join the Daily Debate!
