Future Zelda Games will use Motion Controls

ConnorDecember 12th, 2011 by Connor

In a recent interview with Eiji Aonuma, he reveals to the official Nintendo magazine that future installments of the Legend of Zelda will use motion controls like in Skyward Sword. After the success of Skyward Sword’s motion controls, Aonuma can’t see Zelda going back to the traditional button controls, even though he had doubts about motion controls during Skyward Sword’s development. Miyamoto also stated back in September that going back to button controls will be difficult.

Eiji Aonuma:I honestly think we cannot go back to button controls now, so I think that these controls will be used in future Zelda titles, too.

Skyward Sword has nearly been out for two weeks, and already we may have some useful information regarding future installments. According to Sam Claiborn from IGN, Nintendo is already working on two Zelda games, presumably Zelda Wii-U and Zelda 3DS. I would have thought the Zelda team would have taken a long and well-deserved break after 5 years of making Skyward Sword, but it looks like they need to keep the ball rolling.

Nintendo is working on at least two other Zelda games right now, and I can’t wait to see them.

Professional Fencer Promotes Skyward Sword

SetterwindNovember 27th, 2011 by Setterwind

Remember back in the day when we had to just push the A button to use our sword in Zelda? Seems like it was just yesterday and now we can actually really get into our swordplay and move with the game! What better way to make that change even better than to have someone who uses a sword on a regular basis. Claire Bennett, a professional fencer, was hired by Nintendo to do a photo shoot, a bit of fencing, to show off her swordplay and even teach some people how to fence at the Nintendo Skyward Sword Launch Party.

The event was held in a victorian building in South Kensington with decorations of fairy lights and greens plants and vines winding up the stairwells along with green lights to make it seem more mystical and forestlike. Take the jump to read more about the fencing adventures.

Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda Room Pictures

MasesNovember 26th, 2011 by Mases

A few days back we posted about a Time Lapse Video of Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda Room. The room was designed by I-am-8-bit for the 25th anniversary of the Legend of Zelda series. Today we have 8 new pictures courtesy of Nintendo World Report. These showcase many of the areas seen within the Time Lapse, but since they are higher resolution and they are images, we can see the Legend of Zelda room in all its glory. You can see a thumbnail gallery of all 8 images after the jump. I’ve also gone ahead and embedded the Time Lapse Video that we had posted a few days back in case you missed it.

School bullying is a problem in highschools all across the country and all across the world really. Often times this happens because of somebody’s pure appearance, sexual orientation, religion or if there is something about them that is different. For Zelda Williams, it was her name, Zelda. Being named after the Princess of Hyrule was no easy way to go through school, as Zelda was constantly teased because of it. Zelda recently spoke about her name and what it was like growing up.

“When I was in grade school and girls made fun of me for it, I was like, ‘Mom, I’m gonna change my name when I am 18.’ But then I ended up loving it again. Constantly people are like, ‘That’s the coolest name ever.’ So I actually really enjoy it.”

Over at Den of Geek, an article has been published talking about how Link is one of the most enduring characters in video games. They list the reasons behind their statement during the article and also talk about the differences between Link and certain main characters in other game series.

Aside from owning the coolest hat in gaming, Link’s also one of the few left-handed protagonists in the medium (though this was sadly altered in Twilight Princess in order to accommodate the Wiimote-waving, right-handed majority, and it’s still the case in Skyward Sword), and the occasional utterances he does make immediately inform the player of his youth and inexperience.

Another Zelda Williams interview has surfaced and in this one it has her talking about how she has always been close to video games. She says it was a way that her and her family bonded with each other. Video games also gave her parents the inspiration to call her Zelda after the Princess Zelda and call her younger brother Cody after a character in Final Fight. Here is an excerpt of those particular parts of the interview.

“Yes, my brother, mother and father named me after the game, and my little brother (Cody) is named after a character in Final Fight I believe,” Zelda tells mX.

“I consider us lucky though: we both love our names and, thankfully, neither of us ended up as Chun-Li or Captain Falcon.”

With an avid gamer for a father, the Nintendo was never too far from the hands of the Williams’ children. While other families played Scrabble or snakes and ladders, the Williams clan bonded by playing the Nintendo 64 classic GoldenEye 007 together.

Comedy Central was present at the Nintendo World launch event for Skyward Sword. (Our video will be released soon–don’t worry!) Originally, I thought they were there to make fun of Zelda fans, but after seeing this giveaway, it’s obvious why they were present. The grand prize is quite extensive, and the daily prize is nothing to shake a turkey leg at. I had the opportunity to be interviewed for one of the TV spots that will air this weekend, So if you want to see ZD’s first TV appearance check out Comedy Central this weekend. Check beyond the break to see the full list of prizes that you could win!

The Skyward Sword Walkthrough here at Zelda Dungeon has officially launched. Currently we have the complete text walkthrough for the entire main quest of the game.

At this point however, the walkthrough includes only the main quest and very selective side quest material. If you are progressing through the main game than this guide will work for you from right when you start your journey, all the way until you slash the final boss. Additionally, we have screenshots completed for a majority of the walkthrough, with pictures available for the first 14 of the 18 chapters. We are working around the clock to finish this up as soon as possible. Our upcoming projects related to Skyward Sword can be seen below.

  • Completing all screenshots of the main quest.
  • Updating all side quest and information pages with completed data.
  • Improving the walkthrough making it a 100% guide covering all side quests.
  • Launching the complete bullet-point quick guide for easy non-spoiler access.
  • Creating and audio dubbing a video walkthrough.
  • Finalizing all Skyward Sword content pages so they are near perfect.

All of this is a LOT of work and Caleb, Josh, Locke, and I are all working hard at bringing this to you as soon as possible. Up until now I’ve been the only person at the website who has been able to play the game. After putting 11 straight days in of 15+ hours of work per day on playing the game and working on the walkthrough alone, I’m happy where it is at the moment. I’d like to give a special thanks to all websites that have promoted our walkthrough at this point including ZeldaPower, Hyrule.net, Zelda Universe, LegendZelda.net, The Hylia, Zelda Chronicles, 3DS Focus, Nintendo Nebula, and many more.

Destructoid: Ten Most Difficult Dungeons Ever

KnowleeNovember 18th, 2011 by Knowlee

An article was posted up on Destructoid talking about the ten most difficult dungeons in the Zelda series. In it the author talks about why these particular ten make the list, one of which happens to be the infamous Water Dungeon from Ocarina of Time. But unlike most others who would put this particular dungeon at the very top of their list he gives it the number nine slot in the listing. Here’s what he had to say about it.

No, you are not reading this list backwards. As much as everyone complains about the Water Temple in Ocarina of Time, it actually isn’t that challenging of a dungeon. Annoying? Oh yeah. Switching your boots and constantly adjusting the water level is unbelievably annoying. But difficult? Not as bad as you may remember.

F*ck that sh*t moment!: Every time I play the Water Temple in Ocarina of Time there is one key that I always miss. You would think that I would learn after all these playthroughs, but, no. Somehow I miss the same key every single time and have to go back and find it. That key is the bane of my existence.

An article over at Spike.com says The Legend of Zelda series will be the first franchise to enter the Video Game Hall of Fame. This is an extreme honor and it gives Zelda the praise it deserves as it is a video game series that has touched the hearts of many gamers as well as having been a game series that has been around for 25 years! Here’s an excerpt from the article talking about the series’ induction into the Video Game Hall of Fame.

“It is only natural to start with Zelda,” said Geoff Keighley, executive in charge, publisher relations, Spike. “‘The Legend of Zelda’ is a franchise that inspired many of us to see the potential of games when it debuted 25 years ago, and one that has successfully transitioned from one game console generation to the next and continually shown the narrative and artistic potential of the medium.”

An article was posted up on GameInformer by Dan Ryckert and in the article he talks about Four Swords Adventures, the Zelda game on the Gamecube where you could play with three other friends while adventuring around Hyrule. It had a single player mode, but it wasn’t as fun to play when compared to the multiplayer aspect. But in order to play the multiplayer mode, you had to have a Gameboy Advance for each player as well as a Gameboy to Gamecube cord for each GBA to use to connect the two machines to each other. He mentions this during the article and describes how annoying it was just to have to get those things to play with friends.

An article was posted on GameInformer talking about the infamous CD-i games and the popular Oracle games. It talks about how the two types of games are similar in that they were both developed by people outside of Nintendo and that they differed by how at the end of their development they both became known for different reasons. The writer first talks about the Oracle games and that Capcom was able to develop the games wonderfully.

Most gamers willingly acknowledge Capcom’s skill at working with the Zelda formula as proven by the Oracle games and Minish Cap, but I think it deserves even greater recognition. On the same day, Capcom released two fully fleshed out Zelda titles of such quality that most fans would have no trouble believing they came from Nintendo itself. It was an incredible, expectation-defying feat by any measurement.

Gamespot Skyward Sword Gameplay Video

AustinNovember 10th, 2011 by Austin

New Skyward Sword gameplay video from Gamespot is out, and this one is pretty long. I haven’t watched through the whole thing as a result, but from what I saw it looked pretty interesting. It seems as if the guys there played through a variety of segments each highlighting slightly different aspects of the game. Also helpful, they will occasionally explain a game action is performed using the Wiimote and WiiMotionPlus alongside a shot of the one using the controller so the viewer can see how the move is physically carried out.

Skyward Sword: Hero Mode

MasesNovember 9th, 2011 by Mases

Back in September at the Nintendo 3DS Conferience in Japan Shigeru Miyamoto hinted at a second quest of sorts. However, after getting further translations of that conference, it seemed unclear what he actually was referring to. We never really got full confirmation that there was a second quest at all, but from a recent post over at NeoGAF, we might just have this. The poster refers to the new feature as the Hero Mode and it contains many of the same aspects as the Master Quest from Ocarina of Time. While we cannot 100% confirm the authenticity of this, we can give you the details. Make the jump to see what the Hero Mode entails.
