The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, although it didn’t have the best sales when compared to its competition, it was definitely the most hyped and anticipated of them all. It has even gotten the most votes for game of the year in many different competitions. Why it hasn’t outsold other major titles is beyond me, but it has done very well for itself and all those copies had to ship from somewhere, right?
In fact they did. A lot of the copies, maybe even the ones currently loaded into our Wiis right now, came from a place known as North Bend, WA, where a Nintendo distribution center is located. A photo taken by Ted S. Warren has surfaced showing off a jaw dropping amount of Skyward Sword copies, 25th Anniversary CDs, and how they look before going in the case and getting into the consumers hands. To see a more detailed image of this huge stack of copies, make the jump inside.
A new Dorkly Bits original has been posted, featuring our favorite sword-entity, Fi. Link gets a little frustrated with her constant habit of pointing out the obvious and beeping obnoxiously. The video is hilarious and I can’t say I don’t share some of Links issues with Fi. I mean, I think I might even prefer Navi over her. What’s worse, “Hey Listen!” or Fi’s constant beeping and perhaps not so helpful hints? At least you could control when to ask Fi something, somewhat. Anyways, check the video out after the jump!

A new video by Kotaku shows off a humorous look at Link attempting to haggle over rupees at a pawn shop parodying the popular show Pawn Stars. The video does a fairly good job of copying the look and feel of the show Pawn Stars by portraying a fictional store named Pwn Stars that deals in all types of video game items. This time Link comes in wanting to sell off his Triforce of Courage for a high price while the more experienced pawn shop owner talks him down to a much lower amount. There are plenty of references to the series throughout their conversation so try to see if you can catch them all. Jump inside to check it out for yourself.

If any of you have searched for Zelda song covers on youtube chances are you have came across atleast one of Casper’s guitar covers. Over the past couple of years he has been making full studio quality covers of his favorite Nintendo songs. The majority have been from The Legend of Zelda and are not only just standard covers. Recording several lead and rhythm guitar tracks along with bass, drum, and keyboard tracks, his covers all stay true to the original songs, but have a very unique originality to them.
For the later half of the year Casper has been working on a tribute album for his favorite Nintendo franchise and has finally completed his Zelda tribute album titled Hymns of Light and Shadows. The album is full of completely new song covers and was finished about a week ago. Be sure to make the jump to see how you can get your hands on a copy or to hear the songs for yourself.
In a new animation by Machima we see a humurous look at the filming of an important scene in the Legend of Zelda. This time we see all of the problems that could come up between the actors and the director when filming. Including things like actors who cannot quite get their lines right, the director having trouble with the actors, and the problems that come up when using cue cards. Throughout the entire short you see the actors continually annoy the director until he decides to take another route. Jump inside to see it for yourself.
We recently covered a few interesting glitches in the Pair of Glitches article just a few months ago. Well now youtube member Robotortoise has discovered another interesting glitch in Ocarina of Time that allows you to meet Zelda after collecting all three spiritual stones. This is a normally impossible task after the escape from Hyrule Castle cutscene. After making this discovery he uploaded a video going over exactly how to accomplish this trick and describes the various changes to the area after performing it. This is an expansion of the Use Any Item glitch previously covered to return back to a now locked location. Here is what he had to say about it.
To perform this, you’ll need to use Farore’s Wind at Zelda’s courtyard using the “any item anywhere” glitch (equip an usable item over an unusable one, then mash the button for the usable item rapidly after exiting the ITEMS menu) before defeating Barinade. After obtaining the Ocarina Of Time, just do the glitch again (or go to a dungeon, if you’re lazy like me) and you will re-appear at Zelda’s courtyard. Ta-da!
This trick should also allow us to visit normally inaccessible areas like Malon’s bedroom during night, shops at night/day, etc.

Youtube group Underbellyshow recently posted a video showing off the more humorous side of Link collecting money from random clay pots in people’s homes. They take a look at just how awkward it might be for a hero to wander into a house, break a vase and take the money out of it when the homeowners are right there watching. And even later on they look at the economic situation in Hyrule and just how strange it really is.

The follks at Kotaku have made their attempt on creating an accurate timeline based on some translations from this site taking the information straight from the new Hyrule Historia book. Their interpretation is based on the newly translated information gathered on that website but they still had to fill in some gaps. According to this the timeline splits in three ways after Ocarina of Time based on the outcome. A Link to the Past from Link failing to defeat Ganondorf, Majora’s Mask from his childhood time, and Wind Waker from the adult time. Jump inside to see it for yourself.
Youtube group Yosemiteland recently posted their entry in the Nintendo Short film contest. In this video we see someone learn the err of his ways when he picks up a lost 3DS and is taught a lesson by Link himself. Here is what they had to say about it.
On December 16th, 2011 Nintendo sponsored a 24 hour film challenge where eight teams of four people were given only 24 hours to write, shoot, and edit a short film based of one of four games for the Nintendo 3DS. The options were: Mario Kart 7, Tetris Axis, Super Mario 3D Land, and Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time. Our team randomly selected, The Legend of Zelda. Every video in the competion had to include an orange traffic cone and a specific line of dialogue: “You have to see it to believe it.” Watch to see what happens when 4 strangers have 24 hours to make a video when provided a Camera, Mic, a Driver to take us anywhere in a 10 mile radius, and a computer to edit on.

Youtube user MarkovicDeluxe has uploaded his rendition of the ‘Ballad of the Goddess’ on piano. He also includes the title theme from The Wind Waker into his cover. This is one of my favorite pieces from Skyward Sword and I thought it was awesome how it was Zelda’s Lullaby backwards. In this piano cover he added his own flare to it, and it sounds amazing, not to mention it’s skillfully played. I hope he uploads more Zelda covers in the future. Be sure to check out the video and tell us what you think after the jump!
After the latest Spike TV Video Game Awards this evening the winners have been announced. Even with high hopes Skyward Sword did not win Game of the Year, that honor went to Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Zelda however did win in two other categories, Best Wii Game and Best Motion Game. Both are very clear wins for Zelda. Skyward Sword was still a strong contender this year going up against other industry giants such as Elder Scrolls and Batman:Arkham City. Nevertheless Zelda did receive a special honor as being the first game inducted into the Video Game Hall of Fame with a surprise visit by Shigeru Miyamoto to accept the award. Check out some more just after the jump.
In a new comic by Dorkly we take a look at some of the various creepier situations Link has found himself in throughout the series. Here they have made a few images showing some of the stranger things Link does over the course of the series with a helpful guide at the bottom of each picture listing the creepyness level of each action. They can range from just walking into strange caves to stealing hair and underwear. Jump inside to check them out for yourself.
Youtube user spidermjc has uploaded a cute little fan film to the song Legend of Zelda by The Rabbit Joint. The costumes are really adorable and well done. It stars a very fitting young Link on his quest to save Hyrule. While Ganondorf seems a lot less imposing when he’s around three feet tall, it is no less an epic tale. Will Link succeed with the aid of his fairy in saving the equally short Princess Zelda? Check out the video after the jump!
Youtube user AVGanondorf has recently posted a video showing off his musical skills by playing Fi’s Theme from Skyward Sword with the ocarina in Majora’s Mask. Closely paying attention to the tune from Skyward sword he was capable of perfectly recreating it using the button combination on the N64 controller. The tune is very well performed and sounds like it perfectly belongs in Majora’s Mask. Jump inside to see the video for yourself.
Youtube user Bashirsultani has made quite a few videos displaying his skill in salt art. Which is creating pictures of various characters and images with nothing more than salt on a dark surface. This time he has made an impressive picture of Link from Legend of Zelda using nothing more than salt and some ingenuity. The video goes over the entire process from beginning to ending showing the viewer how each and everything was made. The video is sped up for time although it still shows us that the complete image was made in a very short amount of time. Check out the video just after the jump.
PeanutButterGamer has recently posted a few Top Ten Zelda related videos for Zelda Month. This one looks at the Top Ten Zelda dungeon themes. He seems to like catchy themes the best, the ones that really get stuck in your head. Number ten is one of these, the Anglers Tunnel theme from Link’s Awakening. He includes themes from the older games which is nice, sometimes it’s easy to forget the old favorites. Check out the video after the jump!
Youtube user AVGanondorf has discovered something very interesting while playing Skyward Sword. He found a fun little diversion while fighting the final boss fight and made a quick video showing off his discovery to the rest of us. Nintendo is celebrating the 25th anniversary of Legend of Zelda with the release of Skyward Sword and the orchestral concerts but now several composers from many other series such as Minecraft and Mass Effect have completed their own tribute to the anniversary of Zelda. The musical tribute titled 25 Year Legend is a free to download album consisting of various songs from throughout the Zelda series, some having a new and distinct flavor added to them. The composers contributing to it include some more well known names such as Daniel Rosenfield from Minecraft, Laura Shigihara of Plants vs. Zombies, Rich Vreeland aka Disasterpiece, and Jimmy Henson from Mass Effect 2. Each artist involved has contributed to many mainstream and independent video games in the past.

Nintendo has been releacing various videos of the history of the Legend of Zelda for the 25th Anniversary. Each one displays a certain element of the series that makes it so memorable by fans. Earlier we showed the 25 Years of Power taking a look back at all the many boss fights and challenges over the years. This time we are taking a look at all the many puzzles and hidden secrets Link has to overcome in each game.
To celebrate the Legend of Zelda’s 25th anniversary, Nintendo has been releasing videos showcasing elements of the games that made the series great. Yesterday, we posted a video titled 25 Years of Humor showing some of the funnier cutscenes throughout the years. Today’s video is 25 Years of Power and it shows clips of Link fighting various bosses including Barinade, Malladus, Dark Link, Ghirahim, and many more.
Lately, Nintendo has released a few of these 25 Anniversary Videos. This time, instead of paying tribute to things like music or secrets, Nintendo has taken the time to appreciate the humor that sometimes finds its way into the series. From Darunia dancing to Saria’s song, or Link being scolded for being a cheapskate.
Prior to the release date, Nintendo is holding a special launch event for Skyward Sword in the Sears Court in the Toronto Eaton Center. Beginning on the 18th a few fans showed up and took some pictures of the event which we have displayed here. Among the images are a couple pics of the almost notorious Master Sword promotional prop which some fans made a few fun attempts to pull from the pedestal. There are booths set up for fans to try out the game before they buy much like the demos seen before at E3 and Comic Con. The event is still going on through the weekend so I would expect to see more pics before Sunday evening.
The rest of the pics are just after the jump. Read more…
The website Machinima.com has recently posted their video review of Skyward Sword. They are more than impressed with the game as they put it “It’s like playing a fantastic dream of which you don’t want to wake.” The article is separated into separate categories each they focus on one at a time starting with gameplay, then moving on to graphics, controls, and later sound. While they were impressed with the game in most areas they did talk about the weakness of the Wii holding back the graphics. However they were amazed with the controls and gameplay enough to say that they would definitely recommend the game without hesitation to anyone. Later saying that to ignore it because it was on the Wii would be a shame. Near the end they gave Skyward Sword a 9.5/10.

Youtube user Badwomen55 uploaded a video showing off his stop motion skills with a short animation featuring Legend of Zelda. The video is just under three minutes long and shows Link roaming a labyrinth in the exact style the first game in the series. Even though it closely follows one of the original eight-bit labyrinths, the video also includes many other characters that did not appear until later such as Epona, Wolf Link, the King of Red Lions, and Ezlo. Only this time they are recreated to resemble the eight-bit graphics of the level they are found in. The music is also taken from the original Nintendo Legend of Zelda but there are a few parts where you will hear other songs like the Song of Time or Epona’s Song. Youtube user NintenDaan has recently uploaded the official UK Skyward Sword commercial to his channel. It is a little more straightforward and serious than the North American counterparts, going straight to the gameplay and not relying on a gimmick of any kind.
