The Adventure of Link : Rating/Review
Review
Zelda II : The Adventure of Link was based on a different game engine than the original Zelda, it was designed with side-scrolling and RPG elements. Zelda II was the first Zelda game to introduce magic, spells, towns, townsfolk, sword techniques, and a huge atlas of Hyrule that inspired many of the newer Zelda games. Even though refered to as the 'Black Sheep' of the series, Adventure of Link will play a role in every Zelda fans life.
Gameplay -
Instead of the top-down view, AoL uses side scrolling and some RPG elements that ties in with the huge atlas of Hyrule. Link also gains experience levels which is needed to level up his attack/magic/life powers. You gain points by defeating enemies and finding point bags. Having such a large atlas of Hyrule, the game acts as a RPG as you will venture throughout Hyrule by walking over tiles to gain access to towns, palaces, caves, etc.
Graphics -
The graphics in Adventure of Link are very different than the original. Link is now having a side view and shows to be larger instead of the top-down view like before. But now, there is a lot more terrain for Link to face and everything is much more detailed than before as well.
Music -
The music is Adventure of Link is just outstanding. Even though the series really never re-uses the themes, it is all liked by many. The most-known theme would probably be the Great Palace theme which was later remixed several times.
Difficulty -
To many fans, this game is quite difficult. It's the first Zelda game to have sword techniques, and since the enemies have sword techniques and other moves as well, its a bit harder since it has more life-like battles than before.
