They started with playing cards and developed into the gaming industry. Nintendo is known for the Legend of Zelda series, Super Mario, Donkey kong, Metroid, and much more.
1889 : The First Product
In 1889 Nintendo began with the Hanafuda Playing Cards. They were founded by a person named, Fusajiro Yamauchi. These playing cards were used to for a gambling card game in Japan, and soon Nintendo became popular. The company lasted until 1949, when a person named Hiroshi Yamauchi took over. In it's greater years (around the 70s), the company started making other small games such as a Love testing machine and Ultra Hand.
1970s'-1980s
Around 1977, Nintendo released a "Color TV Game" that had games like Pong, Breakout, etc. Soon came the Game&Watch platforms around 1980. It was a dual screened console similar to the new Nintendo DS. The first Donkey Kong was released in 1981 by Miyamoto and Yokoi. The small plumber in the game obviously became Mario.
Nintendo Entertainment System
The Famicon (NES) was soon released in 1984. The founding games that are still alive today that were released on this platform were such as : Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Brothers, Metroid, and a few others. It was the first system to use a battery powered saving system for games like Zelda. It also introduced the R.O.B. robot gun (light gun) and the Power Glove. Soon Nintendo took their gaming ideas into a hand held console, the Gameboy.
Gameboy
Released in 1989, this hand held console started a revolution in Hand-held Console gaming. It later became GBC,GBA, and now Nintendo DS. The fourth Zelda game (Link's Awakening) was later released on the GB, but their first titles were Tetris and Super Mario Land.
Super Nintendo
With the success of the NES, Nintendo designed the SNES which was released in 1990. It still consited of their original franchises like A Link to the Past, Super Mario World, Super Metroid, and more. The system still used cartridges and aalso had the saving system as before. But the graphics with the SNES were awesome compared to the NES. Used higher and more color palettes, detailed animations, lighting effects, cut scenes, and much more.
