: Chapter 5: True Lies :

Saria woke up very suddenly. She felt as though a fire she felt had just been extinguished. She no longer felt that feeling any longer. Mido had fallen asleep next to her. She smiled for a moment, knowing he probably fell asleep while looking after the Kokiri. She had to admit, even after all of the mean and spiteful things he had done, he was really a nice guy. He cared for all of his fellow Kokiris, even though he did not express it openly to them. Saria sat up, and when her legs emerged from underneath her gown, she noticed that her skin was noticeably brighter. It was giving off a weak glow, but it was still brighter than before. She stood up, spooked at what she saw. She pulled her sleeves back just to make sure it wasn’t something on her legs. When she saw her arms, she knew it couldn’t just be something that rubbed off on her. She yanked the sleeves back down, not wanting anyone to see it in case it was something bad. Saria looked at the other Kokiri that were lying in the flowers asleep. The thunder bolts that rang through the forest didn’t seem to wake them. She guessed it was almost close to sunrise. It was around midnight when she was attempting to go to sleep back at her house. The attempt lasted for a couple of hours, and she knew that she had been in here for at least two hours. Though, she really couldn’t tell, because the dark clouds were covering the sky, preventing the sun from coming through when it did finally rise. She didn’t know if she was right about the time it could be-it was pitch black outside. Saria decided to go back into the village and see if the water had receded any.

She quietly left the Kokiris and exited the meadow. If she remembered correctly, she needed to take two lefts, a right, another left, and then go straight to leave the Lost Woods. It was so different to go through the Lost Woods when it was dark. Her eyes played tricks on her, making her see something that wasn’t there. She knew that what she saw wasn’t real and paid no attention to them. She was right, she was now out of the Lost Woods. She looked out at all of the houses and saw that the water was still rising. This was impossible, it could not rain this much...it just couldn’t. There had never been a raining season in which it completely flooded their town. Something was out of the ordinary, she just knew something was.

Suddenly, something caught her attention at the entrance to their village. She looked over, and through the darkness she saw what were two large shadowy figures emerging through the waist-high waters. They were not anyone she had sensed before, but she felt that these people weren’t here to help them out. Saria didn’t give it another thought, she turned back around and headed through the Lost Woods-back to Mido and the rest. She found Mido and ran up to him. She bent down and shook him hard.

“Mido, Mido wake up.”

He wasn’t a light sleeper. He moaned for a second and asked very weakly, “Wha...what is it?”

“Mido, we have company.”

Ganondorf and Link pushed their way through the water that leapt at their hips. Ganondorf knew nothing about the forest and where anything was. He would have to rely on Link to guide him around the forest. The only part of the forest he had ever been in was the area in which the Great Deku Tree resided. He only entered the forest to obtain the spiritual stone from him. But, as luck would have it, the tree refused to divulge the location of the spiritual stone. Being cruel as he was, he placed a curse upon him-one which would kill him. He never knew of Link’s attempt at saving the old tree, but learned later that he had obtained the stone he so rightfully deserved.

Link led them through the entire premises of the Kokiri village. They checked out every house to make sure that no one was there. They wanted so much to kill something, or at the least, make something suffer. Nothing, every home was empty and there was no sign of any Kokiri anywhere. Link thought of all the places they could be. If only I hadn’t erased his knowledge of the forest Ganondorf thought. Link and Ganondorf walked back to the entrance of the Kokiris’ village, when Link looked up towards the Lost Woods entrance. He raised his hand and asked, “Do you know where that leads?”

Ganondorf knew it led to the Forest Temple, but had been out of there for so long that he forgot how to navigate through there without getting lost.

“No, I do not.”

Ganondorf lied because he didn’t want to waste time explaining to him how he knew about it.

“Well, that’s the only place we haven’t checked. I suggest we go into there.”

Link jumped onto the ledge and climbed his way up to the entrance of the Lost Woods. Ganondorf slowly followed, not sure how he was going to react to the Lost Woods. Link and he walked through the entrance tunnel and on all sides lay tunnels. There was one off to their left, their right, and in front of them. Ganondorf hadn’t the slightest idea of where to start, too afraid that he would get lost. Then, to his surprise, Link began walking. Link turned to his right and began traveling through the tunnels. Before he got too far, Ganondorf called out, “Link, where are you going? Do you know how to get through here?”

Link had no clue as to where to go, but there was something inside of him that was seemingly guiding him.

“I don’t know, but I think we should go this way.”

Link’s choice was as good as his, so, he followed Link through the tunnels. When they came to the next area to choose where to go next, it seemed as if Link was acting on impulse. He never stood there and contemplated on where he should go. To Ganondorf’s disbelief, Link never stopped once-he never slowed down, he just kept walking. What appeared to be random guessing and luck actually led them closer to the Kokiris. The both of them began feeling that they weren’t alone. They both felt it, someone or some people were near. Then, Link stopped. He turned his head to his left and stared into the tunnel. He couldn’t see past it, but something told him that who they were looking for was just through there.

“Ganondorf, I think who we are looking for is just through there.”

He raised his hand, all the while whispering.

“Then lets go in and give them a proper greeting.”

The two discussed it no further, with Link in the lead, they went through the tunnel.

“Company...what do you mean?”

Mido was very drowsy from having no sleep for a couple of hours. He sat up, stretched, and yawned.

“I mean that I saw two people, big people, come into the forest. Also...I felt something...like they weren’t friendly. The feeling is so familiar, but I can’t put my finger on it.”

Mido looked around to make sure that none of the Kokiri were listening. The one thing they didn’t need right now was for every Kokiri to get hysterical. They were easily frightened, and right now, it would be total chaos if they heard that there are people entering the premises right now.

“Saria, are you sure? You could just be tired, you haven’t gotten that much sleep.”

Saria considered what he said, but she knew better. She was not imagining these things. She saw the two people and they were very much real. As for the feeling they gave her...she wasn’t one-hundred percent sure about that.

“I know that I am tired, but I am not making this up. I saw them with my own two eyes. They are real, and I do not like the idea of these strangers in our forest.”

Mido looked disappointed at Saria. She was jumping to conclusions and he hated it when she would exaggerate about things.

“Look Saria,” he looked all around him and pointed out with his hands, “we’re in the Lost Woods. You yourself said that you are the only one who can navigate through here, right?”

Saria shook her head in agreement.

“So why are you worried? Even if these people make it into the Lost Woods, they wouldn’t know the first place to begin looking for us. They would get lost or turn back.”

Mido was right, as he almost always was. She knew for certain that there were only two people that knew how to get around the Lost Woods: it was her and Link. There was no way that the person at the entrance was Link. She sensed something...and she knew it wasn’t Link.

“I guess you’re right, but just for instance, if they get through the Woods by luck and get to here, what are we to do?”

“Well, since it will never happen, I don’t know. But if they somehow did make it through here and found us, if they were violent...I don’t know. I don’t think that there is anyway to defend ourselves. Lets not worry about that, it won’t happen. You need to just let go. Stop thinking up endless scenarios that are too improbable to come true. Go back to sleep Saria.”

That was one thing that she couldn’t do right now. There was no way she was going to do it when she knew that there were two possible threats just fifteen meters away. The position they were at was fairly long to reach, going through the tunnels. But, if you cut a straight line from the entrance of the Lost Woods to here, then it wasn’t really that far.

“No, I don’t want to go to sleep. I’m going to stand guard and make sure nobody comes in here. Remember, I am a sage. I have certain abilities that could help protect us...somewhat.”

Mido gave up trying to talk to her. When she made here mind up on something, no one, not even the goddesses could convince her otherwise.

“Okay, fine. Just wake me up if you find yourself getting tired or for any reason you deem necessary.”

“Thank you Mido.”

He began to make himself comfortable and said, “Yeah, please don’t mention this. Now, goodnight or morning...whatever it is.”

She watched him close his eyes and fall fast to sleep. Even with him asleep she still had the feeling of protection. Mido was a great leader and would always put his own peoples’ safety above his. However, his evil deeds he performed on the others outweighed his good leadership qualities at times.

Saria felt cold air rush over her body. She shivered and began to worry. She couldn’t shake the feeling that the two people she saw were coming for them. Who would be in a forest that is practically the farthest place a person could travel to. No one with good intentions. Saria had to agree with that. It was too suspicious to be here during a storm, and while it is flooding. She drew her knees up to her chest and wrapped her arms around her legs. Her head made its way on top of her knees. Her head was feeling heavy, as were her eyelids. Sleep was right there, but every time it came close, Saria slapped its offering hand away. She had no time to sleep, and it was too risky to do it right now. If those people found their way to them, then someone needed to be awake to warn the others.

The feeling of something malevolent grew stronger and stronger with each passing moment. It was getting to where Saria was very fearful. Then, she turned her head abruptly towards the exit of the tunnel. She heard it...it was right outside. There was someone or something out there. It was impossible, how could whoever or whatever it was make its way through the forest? Saria turned her head, but not taking her eyes off of the entrance to the meadow, and said very feebly, “M...Mido?”

Her quiet call for help went unnoticed. Mido, nor anyone else, heard her. Then, to her astonishment...Link! He was walking through the entrance. He had found them and a smile grew across her face. She jumped up and ran at him.

“Link, you’re here. I got so worried when I saw those two people out there. I missed you so much.”

She looked up into his eyes and said, “Thank you for coming.”

Link didn’t answer her, he couldn’t. The person he was about to kill was...wanting him with her. She was...worried about him and glad that he was here. He pushed her away and stepped in closer. Saria had a look of confusion on her face, but it was quickly replaced with horror when she saw who stepped in after Link.

“Link, it’s...it’s Ganondorf.”

She finger shaking in the air, pointing at the nightmare of a person. Looking at Link was like looking at Ganondorf. She saw the emotion of worry nonexistent in him.

“Link?” she asked very softly.

Link pulled his arm back and then he struck her. His arm made contact with her chest and sent her flying through the air for a couple of feet. She landed hard on the ground and grabbed her chest. It throbbed with pain; it felt like she couldn’t breathe. Every breathe was forced-it felt like she was suffocating. She screamed as loud as she could, “No!”

All of the Kokiri woke up, only to be met with the sight of Ganondorf. Hysteria ensued. Panic and feeble yelps came from the Kokiri. They all dashed for the tunnel and left Saria and Mido alone with Link and Ganondorf.

Mido was already at Saria, helping her. He shot a glance at Link that almost pierced his soul.

“What is wrong with you Link? Why did you hit Saria?! And why are you allowing Ganondorf to be near us?”

Link took no interest in his questions, he only advanced on Mido. He picked him up by the collar and said through his teeth, “I don’t think you need to be asking questions right now.”

Link drew his sword, but before he could do anything, Saria screamed, “No Link, don’t do it.”

Link didn’t care, why should he listen to the person who he was about to kill next. He thrust his sword into Mido’s chest. Saria saw his sword and blood burst through his back, some splattering on Saria’s face. She screamed ‘no’ incessantly, but Link could care less what she thought about what he did. Mido wasn’t instantly killed, leaving him to suffer for a minute or two. He flopped on his sword, like a fish attached to a hook. His kicks and cries became less and less until no motion or sound came from him. Link tilted his sword down and Mido slid off of his long blade. His blood was smeared on his sword. It was no longer a silvery metallic color, but was now a deep red. Saria watched the blood drip off of his sword. It was...impossible. It had to be a dream or something-anything so that this was not really happening. Saria was too frightened to even consider that this was real.

“Link...why?”

“Why? Because, you are a sage and you are the only one who can stop me from gaining what me and my brother have toiled so long to achieve.”

“What are you talking about? Link, Ganondorf is not your brother.”

Link was angered by these thoughtless words; he ran at Saria, wrapped his fingers around her neck and threw her up against the wall.

“Link...wha...what about...Zelda...and your...baby?”

She struggled to say those words, the only words that might save her. Link struggled not to let anything go through his head at the moment, but it was fruitless. How does she know about that? That means all of the sages know. But, how could they all make up a lie like that so quick? Why is every sage telling me a lie? The...same lie. Ganondorf saw Link as he began reflecting over what she asked.

“Link, kill her! She is only trying to confuse you.”

“Shut up! I...I’ve got to think for a moment.”

Ganondorf walked up as he said, “If you’re not going to do it, then I will.”

Link drew his sword and pointed it at Ganondorf. He stopped dead in his tracks. Ganondorf was too shocked to move or even say anything at the moment. Why would Ganondorf not want me to consider what she is saying? He has done that for every sage that we have killed. Why would he so eagerly push me away to kill her? I can easily kill her myself, but why is he in such a rush? It has to do with my supposed wife and child all of the sages keep talking about. Every time they mention their names he tells me to kill them immediately.

“Link, what are you doing? She is a sage, why are you not killing her?”

“Shut up!” he screamed.

Something didn’t seem right about Ganondorf. Something didn’t seem right about what everything that has been happening that last couple of hours. Link looked at Ganondorf accusingly, and then he looked at Saria. Unwilling to make eye-contact, feeling that he would lose some of his dignity and integrity, he asked as he loosened his grip, “I am not saying that I am going to believe what you are about to say, but I need to know: who is this Zelda and a child everybody is talking about?”

Saria was confused; why would he be asking about two people with whom he has spent years with? Then, it hit her. The way he is acting, Ganondorf here Ganondorf must have erased his memory.

“Link, you have a wife named Zelda and a child. You don’t remember them?”

He shook his head, unable to recall anything from his past that even came close to sounding familiar.

“You and Zelda lived at the castle, and...she was scheduled to have the baby this month.”

“I don’t remember any of this,” he said in frustration.

“Link, Ganondorf must have erased your memory. He-”

“-I have known Ganondorf my whole life. We have been brothers for...since I can remember.”

“It’s possible he put false memories into your head.”

Ganondorf was getting very annoyed. He couldn’t let the fairy-girl tell Link too much or he would begin to get suspicious of him, more than he already has.

“Link, kill-”

Link brought his sword up higher, this time aimed at his neck, and screamed, “Back away now! You are getting just a little too eager for me. If you don’t back away from me and her then I will be forced to take action against you...my brother.”

Sarcasm, the ugly brother of hate. ‘Brother’ was drenched in it. Of course, Ganondorf backed away. Link turned back to Saria and asked, “I have known him all of my life, how can these be false memories?”

Even though he had loosened his grip, it was still painful to talk, and Link heard it in her speech.

“If he erased all of your original memories and put whatever he wanted into your head, then he can give you memories that went back to when you two were babies.”

“How do I know what you are saying is not a lie?”

“I guess you don’t, but...you have to believe me and what I say. If you had your old memories back, you would know that the two of us were the best of friends. I raised you since you were a baby. We grew so close together Link. You have to trust in me, please.”

Why would she go to all of the trouble to make up a story like that? It can’t be coincidence. All of this happened so quickly that the sages could not have come up with this lie that quickly. They also had no way of getting the story around to all of the sages. I can’t forget what Rauru said, ‘Ask yourself as you are killing your friends “why?”’ None of this makes sense, but one thing still is more puzzling than this...Ganondorf. He was so eager to get to all of the sages and kill them, more eager than I was. He pressured me into killing them as soon as they said anything dealing with Zelda and the baby. Whenever I ask him about it, he never gave me a straight answer.

Link did all the thinking that he needed to do. He was not stupid by any means. Link made the connections that were crucial for his possible salvation. Link slowly put Saria down, not taking his eyes off Ganondorf, and stood to face his ‘brother’.

“What is the meaning of this? Are you betraying me, your brother?”

“Actually, I’m not betraying my brother, because I don’t believe for a second that you are. You have been very suspicious from the start of this killing of the sages. Whenever any of them muttered anything about Zelda and the baby you were there to make sure they said nothing else. You were so quick to ask me, after taking care of a sage, if I considered anything they said. It seems to me that you wanted to make sure I didn’t consider what they said, whether it was false or not. You were trying too hard to make certain that their ‘lie’ had no impact on me. From what I have gathered, I now trust Saria more than I trust you.”

Link clutched his sword with both hands. Ganondorf drew his sword and thought there is no point in keeping the truth from him now, he won’t ever again trust me.

“You know what, Saria is totally right. In fact, all of the sages were right. You did have a wife and a child. I erased your memory, and...you killed your friends. How does it feel now, to know that your sword has been washed in the blood of the ones for whom you cared so much? But...it’s a pity you’ll never remember them, especially your dead wife and child.”

“The lies were true?”

“Yes, but you don’t have to worry about that anymore.”

Link couldn’t take it any longer-he jumped at Ganondorf. He was prepared for the telegraphed attack. Ganondorf jumped to the side and swung his sword at Link. He saw the attack coming, but only at the last moment. He quickly ducked his head and punched Ganondorf in the stomach. The punch made Ganondorf heave for a moment, but he quickly recovered. They both swung their swords and the two metal blades made contact. Sparks flew from the point of contact. They were both strong, easily outdoing anyone their own age or older. However, Ganondorf was just slightly stronger. Link was pushed back and stumbled. He fell onto his rear and looked over to see Saria. Saria...the girl who influenced Link to make this choice of turning against Ganondorf. He didn’t know why he said it, but he did not falter any when he said, “Saria, get out of here!”

Saria was too scared to move, but when she watched as Ganondorf’s blade barely miss his head in a stab attempt, she quickly darted away. Link rolled away from another stab and rose to his feet. He watched and made sure that this girl, who could easily have been lying, safely leave the battle arena. Ganondorf was infuriated, the sage...the last sage was getting away. She was right there, an easy kill that would ensure his world domination, but now she was gone. He had to go after her and find her and kill her. He had no choice but to do this. Ganondorf turned away from Link and dashed out of the meadow after Saria. There was no way Link was going to let Ganondorf cause any harm to her. He followed both of them, all the while keeping his mind clear. He couldn’t remember what tunnels he had gone through to reach here, but he could still hear Ganondorf’s bug feet hit the ground. He let those sounds guide him through the forest.

Saria ran for her life, the only thing she could do at the moment. Ganondorf was right behind her. She could swear that she felt his breathe touch the back of her neck. The thought only spurred her to move faster. Each tunnel was a blur to her, the wood no longer showed texture, but was a mono-color of brown. Through all of what just happened back at the meadow she had forgotten about the rain. The thunderbolts now caught her attention. She couldn’t be sure, but the storm sounded like it had gotten worse. When she arrived back at the Kokiri village she was amazed to find that the Kokiri had been waiting at the entrance of the Lost Woods. She noticed that the flooding had not gotten any better. The water was now up to the middle of all of their houses, there was nowhere to go.

The Kokiri were huddled together, some crying, some too shocked to do anything but sit. At the sight of her, they all jumped up and ran to her. Before any could embrace her and tell her how glad they were that she was okay, she said, “Everyone, Ganondorf is coming. We need to get away from here. I know everyone can swim, so I want you all to grab a partner and swim over to the roof of the shop over by the entrance to the Deku Sprout.”

All of the Kokiri were astounded at first, but immediately did as she said-they weren’t going to wait for Ganondorf before they left. Everyone grabbed someone close to them and began swimming through the water. The current was tough, but it did not deter them from getting to a safe spot, away from Ganondorf. Saria smiled briefly, knowing that her Kokiri were safe. She, of course, did not keep it on her face for long. Saria turned around to watch Ganondorf emerge from the Lost Woods. With his sword clutched in his right hand, and his wicked smile drawn across his face, Saria readied herself to die. There was no way to stop Ganondorf. She had no weapon and knew absolutely no magic attacks. It would be in vain to try and escape. At least she could keep Ganondorf busy for a couple of moments so that the Kokiri could get away.

When Link finally made it out of the Lost Woods, he caught the last few seconds in which Ganondorf was pulling back his sword to finish off Saria. He ran at Ganondorf and knocked him into the water, along with himself. He clasped his hands around Ganondorf’s throat and attempted to strangle him. His neck was so large that he couldn’t get his hands all the way around it. Ganondorf had dropped his sword into the water when Link hit him, taking a little worry off of Link. However, Ganondorf didn’t need a sword to cause pain to someone. He brought his feet up and planted them firmly on Link’s chest. Then, Ganondorf kicked Link off of him. Link went underwater, but quickly rose to grab a breathe of air. Ganondorf grasped at his ankle and pulled Link under water again and held him. He then placed his hands around Link’s throat and began choking him.

Link struggled against Ganondorf’s powerful arms with little to show from it. He didn’t know if he could get out of this. He tried to swing his sword, but Ganondorf grabbed his hand and stopped it. Air was getting scarce in his lungs and they were beginning to burn. He had to stay alive though. He had to kill Ganondorf now or be killed himself. Link was at a point of no return. He almost considered wanting to go back in time and take back what he said. However, his mind was kept silent and he kept his concentration. Ganondorf picked Link up out of the water and threw him into the wall by the entrance to the Lost Woods. Ganondorf wanted to fight on land, and right now, that small plot of land was the only place at which to do it. Link hit the wall very harshly, leaving a depression in it. He fell and pain engulfed his back. His face was in the dirt and he was unable to move at the moment.

Ganondorf pulled himself onto the land and directed his attention at Link who was holding himself. He ran up to him and kicked him in the side. Link used Ganondorf’s attack to get him to his feet faster. When he got on his feet, Link threw a slash at Ganondorf’s stomach. His attack missed him completely as Ganondorf moved away from his telegraphed attack. He reached forward and grabbed Link’s throat, then he threw him towards the entrance of Kokiri forest. He screamed as he broke through the wall and landed on the bridge that connected Hyrule field to Kokiri forest. The pain in his back and side was almost too much. Link wasn’t one to give up and call it quits. He had a high threshold for pain, but being slammed through two feet of stone, that was different than getting stabbed or hit.

He lay on his back moaning, but then he heard something. He opened his eyes and watched as Ganondorf was over him, his feet about to land on his face. With a struggle, Link moved out of the way, nearly missing the possible fatal attack. As soon as Ganondorf landed he turned and punched Link in the chest. Link fell backwards and out into the tunnel that led into Hyrule field. His head went underwater for a couple of seconds until he got to his feet. Link coughed up the water that entered into his lungs, but now wished he had done it some other time. Again, Ganondorf ran up to him and punched him in the chest. His ribs were taking heavy blows, if it was not for his Triforce he would probably be dead. His Triforce made him somewhat stronger than a normal man. However, the effects of the Triforce were not helping at the moment.

Ganondorf walked out of Kokiri forest and entered Hyrule field. The water was now beginning to get on his nerves. It was becoming a hindrance to stagger through the waist-high flood. He raised his hands and performed a spell. A wave of energy was expelled from him and evaporated all of the water in the field. However, it was still raining, so the rain would come back.

Ganondorf walked up to Link, who was now on his feet and ready for him. He ran at his green colored foe and raised his leg to kick him. Link fell to his knee and performed a spin attack just as Ganondorf was about to touch him. The energy caught Ganondorf’s feet and he fell onto his back. Link jumped at Ganondorf and aimed his sword for his chest. He wanted to kill Ganondorf so badly, even though something deep inside of him was telling him that Ganondorf was his brother. Brother or not, Ganondorf was now attacking him and would not give up until he was dead. Link had to fight him in order to stay alive.

Ganondorf grabbed his blade before it pierced his heart and pushed Link away from him. He quickly found his feet and jumped up in the air. Link rolled over and saw at the last moment what Ganondorf was about to do. Ganondorf’s feet met his chest and the land under them collapsed. There was an underground grotto below them that neither of them saw. The ground gave way and both of them fell about ten feet before solid ground was found. As soon as Ganondorf hit the ground he rolled so as to absorb the impact. Link, on the other hand, felt the full effect of the fall. This was getting to be too much for him. He didn’t know how long he could keep losing like this. What is the matter with you? Why are you letting Ganondorf win? Are you really going to let someone like him defeat you? His conscience asked admirable questions. Link knew to answer ‘no’, but he wasn’t too sure that he could follow through with his response. He shuddered a little as he heard Ganondorf laugh. It was so cold and so confident. The laugh alone nearly convinced Link to give up. However, he could not and would not do that. He had to finish this battle and kill Ganondorf. Losing was not an option for Link.

“You are still a weakling no matter if you’re on the good side or not. You are a disgrace to which ever side you are on. I should have killed you at the castle when I had the chance, but I was being stupid and naïve. You should have seen the way you whimpered like a baby when you knew your wife and your child were dead. It was priceless and I will never forget that look. But the funny thing is, when I offered you to join me, back when you were good, you jumped at the opportunity. You betrayed your family and your friends, and now you will pay for betraying me.”

Ganondorf grabbed Link and held him in front of him. He powered his fist with dark energy. Link wanted to stop this, but he felt no energy left within him to resist. He felt his grip on his sword loosen. He never dropped his sword in battle, except when he encountered Ganondorf’s more evil side Ganon, and he wasn’t going to drop it now. He watched as his glowing fist made contact with his chest. He burst through the ceiling of the grotto and flew about twenty feet into the air. He screamed with pain as he went through the air and finally landed on the ground. Every bone and muscle ached and he could do nothing to relieve the pain. His tightly clenched teeth was all that kept Link from crying out in agony. He didn’t want to, but he heard something. His eyelids parted away to see a huge ball of dark energy make its way towards him.

The moment it touched him, there was an explosion. Fire engulfed him and the force from the attack drove him about five feet into the ground. When the smoke and debris cleared Ganondorf stood over him. Link was burned, blood oozed from wounds, and his tunic was now shredded and brown instead of green. Ganondorf was not going to stall this any longer. He raised his hand and used a spell to call for his sword. It shot through the tunnel going to Kokiri forest and went straight into his hand. He grasped it tightly, knowing that in just a moment he would be using it to kill Link. He jumped down into the crater and stood over Link. The smoke that rose from his body showed just how badly he was burned by the attack. He couldn’t imagine how Link survived his attack, but he wasn’t going to be alive any longer. He rose his sword over his head and in his final words said, “Link, you don’t know what you are going to be missing. It’s too bad that you turned on me. I’ll see you in hell.”

Link was not going to let this happen, he was not going to die, not today. He felt his Triforce deep inside of him come to life. It surged with power and sent energy throughout his entire body. This feeling was euphoric, it touched ever part of his body and completely rid him of his pain. He gripped his sword, and with the second that Ganondorf took to prepare his attack, Link reached forward and pierced Ganondorf’s chest. His sword went through his heart, or whatever was there.

Ganondorf just stood there, too shocked to realize what just happened. He looked down at his chest but he still could not register it in his head. Only when Link pulled his sword out and he watched his own blood pour out did he understand. He dropped his sword and grabbed the opening in his chest. He raised his hand to his eyes and saw his green blood. No, it can’t be. This can’t be. He thought about it all he wanted, but the fact of the matter was that he was dying.

“This can’t be...real. I am the great Ganondorf. I cannot die...I will rule the world...I...will...”

He fell to the ground, down but not out...yet. Link stood up and walked over to him. He watched as Ganondorf coughed up the blood that was filling his lungs. He felt no sympathy for him and he knew Ganondorf would feel the same if he was in his shoes. Ganondorf looked up at Link now with a look of defeat in his eyes. He looked back with a look that was he complete opposite, victory.

“You should have known that you could not defeat me. You are...I can’t even describe how evil you are. You have taken something from me that I will never have again. I am married to someone and I don’t even know who they are. I have a child, but I have no memory of it. You are pure evil. You have no dignity and no honor and that’s how you will die. Yes, we will both be going to hell, but...you first.”

With rage pulsing through his veins, he raised his sword and quickly sliced through his neck. The blade went cleanly through his sickly colored flesh. His body was now limp and fell over. His head rolled away from its body and over to Link’s leg. He looked at the expression of horror on Ganondorf’s face, but could not bear to gaze upon it any longer. He kicked it away from him and turned away. He was told that all of his memories that he knew to be true right now were false, they were fake and never happened. But, they were still too real to really believe that. Ganondorf might not have been with him since he was an infant, but he didn’t know for sure. Goodbye...brother.
