Classic Zelda...Where Art Thou?

The biggest flaw I find in most 3D Zelda games is the fact that we rarely see any original Zelda aspects in them. Sure, we see a lot of the original features in the newer 2D Zeldas, but the 3D world has been lacking in that department. And yes, we do see some of the originals in the 3D world of Hyrule, but what makes a Zelda game "Zelda" just doesn't seem to be there. So, Iam going to get into what never made it to the 3D world of Zelda.

Link's Arsenal : Ok, we have seen several original items and weapons make a comeback in 3D Zelda...like the Master Sword and Hookshot. Even though Nintendo did manage to come up with new and exciting weaponry and tools, they also managed to leave out some of the best.

- Flippers : Ok, so Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask and Twilight Princess all provided Link with the skill to swim and dive at one point, but did Link really have to rely on a tunic or a mask to be able to? Why not bring some old school back to the series with the flippers.

- Tunics : Ok, ever since A Link to the Past, we havn't been provided with a decent tunic. All tunics in the 3D games were meant for magic, not defense (with the exception of the magic armor which was both in this case).

- Shovel : Remember the days when Link could go digging in random areas for treasures, wonder why this item never made it to the 3D Zeldas. It would make a nice addition for side quests and random searching for secrets. They could do a lot with this feature, maybe even have Link mine Death Mountain....

- Raft : Ok, only in Twilight Princess could Link boat across a limited area. Majora's Mask somewhat had the raft. And well, The Wind Waker was nothing but sailing. But never could we dock a raft and coast to a nearby island or area.

- Step Ladder : Yeah I guess it wouldn't make much use in a 3D Zelda, but it would still be pretty interesting on how exaclty it would be used.

- Roc's Feather : Ok, Im sick and tired of Link jumping automatically, you'd think he would be able to jump at free will (other than when he is fighting Oo).

- Magical Key : The key to open all doors, I guess it would be to easy, but would still be cool to obtain.

- Candles : Yes the latern made a return, but I miss being able to burn random bushes and whatnot to find hidden pathways and other secrets.

- Clock : I suppose we have deku nuts and the boomerang to stun our enemies, but what about being able to freeze every enemy in the room...

- Book of Mudora : Ok, the fact that we only see this item in ALttP is quite odd. The book is supposed to be ancient and hold the secrets of Hyrule, but we only see it in ALttP. OoT should have brought this item back with a whole new meaning. We know little to almost nothing about this book...

- The Triforce : Ok, this is accounted for 3D Zeldas, bot cel-shaded. We all know that Link is in possesion of the piece of courage in both OoT and TP. But we were never able to actually phsyically obtain in a 3D Zelda. Obtaining the Triforce is a key feature to any Zelda game, without it, it almost doesn't feel Zeldaish. Wheres the magic and fantasy Nintendo?

Link's Techniques : Can't say too much on this subject since the 3D Zeldas gave Link much newer attacks and moves, but again its lacking both magic and techniques.

- Sword Beam Attack (beamblade) : Ok, what the hell Nintendo. This has to be one of the key attacks for Link to have in the world of Zelda. Without this move, I almost feel its not a Zelda game. With OoT beta, you seemed to be working on it, but it obviously never made it to the final version. The Light Sword in TP almost gave life to this feature, but again, I was dissapointed.

- Spells : Yes we did in fact get Din's Fire, Nayru's Love, and Farore's Wind...But those are very weak compared to the old school. Adventure of Link gave us more and then some. A Link to the Past provided awesome spells like Ether, Quake, and Bombos. Twilight Princess lacked in the magic department all together....If Zelda doesn't rekindle magic and fantasy, I'm not sure what will happen to the series...

Towns/Villages : Ok, so we got Kakariko back a couple of times. And yes there are small villages here in there...but one thing that Adventure of Link had that really no other Zelda game didn't was in fact its towns. AoL did a very good job with character interaction and use of towns. Each town carried a very important aspect to it. I miss the days of being able to talk to every single NPC in the game, and most providing clues for Link' quest.

Enemies : Ok, this is going to be a very huge list. The 3D Zeldas lacked heavily in the enemy department and didn't have too many original creatures.

- Lynel : The half human/half horse creatures. They were once the hardest overworld enemy in the Zelda series, dwelling in Death Mountain. Why couldn't they make a return....

- Daira : The alligator creature that tossed axes and Link. Ever since AoL and ALttP, he has yet to make a return...

- Geldarm : The desert creature...old enemy from Mario as well I believe...Why he never made it to 3D Zelda, who knows.

- Geldman : The other desert creature that stalked Link in ALttP. He would have been a great addition to 3D Zelda.

- Goriya : Ok, what the hell happened to these guys. They were once one of the main enemies. If you don't recall them, they were the wolf looking creatures that tossed boomerangs....its how Link obtained his boomerang.

- Lanmola : The hardest enemy in LoZ...These quick moving worms never made it as well.

- Moblin : Ok, so we got these guys in OoT....for like 2 seconds. What the crap Nintnedo, the most known enemy in the world of Zelda can't even get a decent part in the 3D world...

- Octoroc : Ok, I'm not speaking of the weak water octorocs from OoT, but the land based ones that well were everywhere in Hyrule. Why they only appeared in beta OoT, I don't know.

- Ropes : The snake like creatures that would attack Link if he just looked at them...would have been fun to attack a giant snake chasing Link...ah well.

- Wall Master : Ok, one of my personal favorites that never saw the 3D world except in again, beta OoT. Yes Nintnedo gave us Floor Masters that dropped from the ceiling, but I miss being careful around every corner for these guys and to be taken back to the beginning of the dungeon.

- Wizzrobe : Ok, we saw these guys in TWW, but again, thats cel-shaded, not 3D.

- Zol : This weak enemies that turned to Gels when hit never made it.

- Zola : Sometimes mistaken as Zoras, Zolas dwell in the water as well. I don't recall these guys making a comeback...even thoug in OoT we had the water octoroks which acted just like these guys.

- Zora : Ok,we have the allies Zora, but what exactly happened? How did they turn evil? We have yet to see an evil Zora in 3d Zelda.

There are many, many more, but I'm not going to get into detail with every one of them. Manly from Adventure of Link...Heres a few more that never made it. Birdknight, Digdogger, Moas, Patra, Bit/Bot, Gel, Pols Voice, Vire, and Moldorm.

Ok, so far I have covered items, weapons, techniques, towns and enemies that didn't quite make it to the 3D world of Zelda. Part 2 will cover music, characters, areas, and much more. Look for part two soon.
