NFL Player Tweets His Love for Zelda

Colonel-MajoraFebruary 12th, 2014 by Colonel-Majora

UntitledIt is always great to see celebrities post on the web about their love for Zelda, and any other video game really, but what we tend to see very little of are such posts coming from sports players. Julian Vandervelde, offensive lineman for the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL and self-proclaimed nerd, has tweeted an ever-so-popular Ocarina of Time joke, showing us that the stereotypical line between jocks and geeks is slowly fading away.

Check out the tweet after the jump!

Seeing a tried and true geek among the players of the National Football League is awesome. I don’t care that the joke is a bit played out. It’s just nice to see that someone like Vandervelde can post about his love for video games, especially when that game is Zelda.

This is awesome! I’m confused though, because I don’t get why Ganondorf and Link are on the same team.

    • http://gamextc.us/ XTC

They have a similar relationship to Mario and Bowser. Ganondorf and Link enjoy go karting all the time. And apparently American Football.

    • ePik Min

This was a Hyrule vs Termina match.

      • The Doctor

I’m guessing Fierce Deity Link is Defense Tackle then. I feel sorry for the Hylians.

        • The Doctor

And Goron Link is middle linebacker, haha.

          • NintendoGeek

Ahem… “Linebecker”… just saying… he needs a spot as well.

    • michkori

Because Link is just as destructive as Ganondorf.

  • NintendoGeek

So cool! Zelda is everywhere… sort of. But that picture though…

  • UltimateTankOP

One thing I don’t get about the song of storms: in Oot, Link plays the song to mess up the windmill, Guru Guru remembers this song and, seven years later, teaches it to Link. Link then travels seven years back in time, and plays the song to mess up the windmill, thus teaching it…to Guru Guru. HOW? (And sorry Zelda, but magic won’t save you here).

    • itsameluigi1290

That’s called a… something paradox. There’s a correct term for it, but I forget.

      • champtreu

I believe that it is called a bootstrap paradox.

        • Dragon Ball Zelda

Yeah, it means that the song never actually came from anywhere. It’s like if you go back in time and give yourself something that you got from your future self.

          • Zoltier853

Even though you said this, I’m still confused and my brain still hurts.

          • zeldamonsuperwholock origami

            I watch dr. who!

          • The Doctor

            Indeed?

May I ask why you like to watch me? And where do you watch me at?

          • The Master Sword

Well, I for one keep an eye on you through the Untempered Schism. That’s right, you are not the only Timelord left, me, The Master, The Inquisitor and Salphar are still alive. We need your help!

          • zeldamonsuperwholock origami

I watch you in a video form while you are on your adventures!

        • YoshiFan101

          Its so confusing!

      • http://vanilladice.deviantart.com/ Dice

Basically how 50% of Doctor Who episodes function as well. Yeah, it’s a bootstrap paradox.
Or you could run on the assumption that the original event might have happened somehow anyways and you’re just speeding up the process. But, talkin’ paradox is a huge headache of stuff we can’t prove.

        • itsameluigi1290

Stinking wibbly-wobbly timey wimey stuff. XD

          • http://vanilladice.deviantart.com/ Dice

God I love how Who fans are everywhere. :)

          • itsameluigi1290

XD IKR? I just got into the series a few months ago, but I watched nearly every 11th Doctor episode, most of season 3 and 4 for the 10th Doctor, and a little bit of the 9th Doctor.

          • YoshiFan101

what do you mean by 11th doctor and 9th doctor?

          • itsameluigi1290

You know, the Doctor regenerates. Christopher Eccleston played the 9th Doctor, David Tennant played the 10th Doctor, and Matt Smith did the 11th Doctor. (The War Doctor doesn’t technically count as he wasn’t known as The Doctor then)

          • YoshiFan101

oh, I should start watching Doctor Who…

          • itsameluigi1290

Yeah, it’s a great show. Most of the revived series (meaning the episodes starting with the 9th Doctor) is on Netflix.

    • Zoltier853

Link messes up windmill as kid, Guru Guru remembers song, seven years later teaches it to Link who goes back in time and messes up windmill with a song that he learned in the future and used in the past… WHAT. THIS CONFUSES ME SO MUCH MY BRAIN HURTS!

      • jakeford

It is a poorly thought out game moment and resulted in a paradox. Don’t put much thought into it this situation is just a screw up from Nintendo.

        • David Byrad

Actually, it’s not poorly thought out, even Star Trek has went into things like this. Time is not linear you see, things can happen before you do them.

It’s very confusing yes, but it’s a stable paradox that IS feasible and not a mess up.

      • The Doctor

People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but *actually* from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint – it’s more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly… timey wimey… stuff

        • LordSlayaton

The doctor explains it. So now there are two Doctors here?

          • The Doctor

The other bloke is actually named Justin Lake. An info stamp backfired on him when he fired it at a cyberman. The stamp contained everything known about me.

          • LordSlayaton

Uh.. ok. Didn’t really care about that. So you two were engaged in a cyber war?

          • The Doctor

Oops, his name’s actually Jackson, but anyways I was in London on Christmas Eve of 1851, and some cybermen had been sent back in time, and got stuck. Then like I said Jackson got hit with an info stamp an thought he was me… It’s a long story, and I’m being chased by something with very large teeth, and really bad breath. Try here fro the full story: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Next_Doctor

          • The Doctor

Wrong again! My real name is: ♅☄☇☍☉☓☋☋☖☴☸

I’m only telling y’all this because I’m the only one left alive who can read this dialogue.

          • Hero of Time

The Doctor has a country draw?

          • The Doctor

            This regeneration does.

          • The Doctor

I’m sorry for your confusion Jackson, you were driven mad by the death of your wife. I’m truly sorry. I really am.

          • The Doctor

Nooooooooooooooo! Please don’t do this. Name yourself “Doctor Who,” or “The Dr.,” or “Doctor,” or something like that. Please just don’t take my username, or people won’t be able to tell us apart.

          • The Doctor

Wait, sorry. Nevermind. For some reason when you first put up that comment it showed you as a Disqus user, and I thought you had copied my account name. :)

          • The Doctor

Wait… If you are really me and I’m talking to myself in the future please tell me… Do I ever get to be ginger?

          • The Doctor

I’m not giving away any spoilers.

          • The Doctor

Stupid spoilers… but let me double check it’s really me… don’t blink!

          • The Doctor

What is this nonsense!? I am the last remaining time lord, The Doctor, aged 1692 years, and currently in my 17th regeneration cycle!

        • The Doctor

Why are you stealing my words?

          • YoshiFan101

Doctor, I think your the next one that gets their name stolen

    • LordSlayaton

      Its called a paradox.

    • David Byrad

Please, you want really confusing stuff? Watch Star Trek, my dad showed me an episode of the old series last night and man! That stuff is scientifically accurate while still being entertaining.

The Song of Storms is a very feasible occurrence actually. You see, time does not simply flow forwards, it is very elastic and curving. We see time as a linear event, but in reality it is simply yet another dimension. Since we lack the dimensional qualities to move through it though, we see it as a single and solid chain of events, and that is where we err.

Time really works with a whole set of paradoxes, and there are two main types of these: A Stable Paradox and an Unstable Paradox.

Stable Paradoxes are self consistent, like the Song of Storms and has no end simply because it’s technical end feeds into the beginning. An unstable paradox however, works as follows:

You go back in time to kill your grandfather. Then since he never was born, you never were born. So that means you couldn’t have killed him in the first place. But that would mean that he’d be alive, you’d be born and thus he’d then would be killed by you.

This is one of the more confusing paradoxes, and there are many theories in how it would work. Due to the inconclusive reports of what would happen, I will let you discover it on your own. But this one is a bit more interesting in it’s end point. It actually has an end. And when it ends next time it is brought up in history, it’s result changes. This is much like how a light bulb’s output changes each time you flip the switch. Thus it has an end, but only until someone looks at it, which it will at that point begin again.

      • The Master Sword

So the basic summary of your comment is: Wibbly Wobbly, Timey Wimey. I know how you feel.

    • The Master Sword

It’s called a paradox. You have heard of of them before, right?

First of all, I’m going to save you some trouble if you don’t want to read my entire comment, and start off by saying the basic summary of it is “It’s Wibbly Wobbly, Timey Wimey”. If you wan’t the details, read on.

When it comes to time travel, there are several theories. One is that anything that time travel causes has already happened. That means that if I went back in time and chucked a rock at someone, that rock would have been chucked before I myself actually went back in time, relative to me, because I will travel back in time to do so. That’s one of the more confusing things.

The second theory is that time can be changed. That means that if I go back in time and chuck a rock at someone, then that won’t of happened until I go back in time to do it, creating an entirely separate timeline from my original one.

Some examples of these theories being used in popular culture are:
The Terminator series. In this series, they use the first theory, about things that time travelers will do has already happened. Now, there is a flaw about The Terminator series of time travel, but don’t even get me started on that.

Next is Back to the Future. It uses a splitting timeline theory, with Marty changing the past and going into a new future, or a new present relative to himself.

Doctor Who uses a combination of the two, sometimes implementing one and sometimes the other, such as in the episode “Blink”, they use the first theory, with The Doctor having been given instructions on what to do based on the very same instructions in his own future that was used to give help to someone in his past who then gave him the instructions. Then another time in “The Waters of Mars”, he effectively changes the timeline of someone relative to him, creating a new history for him to live in.

Anyway, while this is all super confusing, this is what happened in OoT.
This game uses the first theory. Link learned the Song of Storms from Guru Guru who learned them from Link in the past, who was actually Link from the future in his child body who learned the song from Guru Guru who taught the song to Link who went back in time to teach it to Guru Guru to make sure that he would learn in in the future. Confusing. Hope that helps!

  • Wil

Why wouldn’t you use an Eagles player in the pick then? I mean for Christ sake our colors are Midnight or Forrest Green, perfect for Link.

  • npatoray24

i also make it rain….. rupees

  • Dan E. Dangerously

He’s also a Whovian, and sings in a band called Bigger on the Inside

I was a Whovian before it was cool.

      • Hero of Time

        Me too!

        • The Doctor

I was also the Hero of Time before it was cool. Actually, since Time itself.

      • Hero of Time

So Doctor, where shall we go next?

  • Ezio Auditore da Firenze

    That pic

    • matt schweiss

Ya. And why are link and ganondorf on the same team?

      • Ezio Auditore da Firenze

  • TheMightyDekuWarrior

When I hit the club, I like to bring my Ball and Chain… cause I like to bring the house down.

    #BADASS

    • The Doctor

Wouldn’t bombs be more efficient? You’re pants would be on the floor with the weight of the ball and chain.

By the way, is it just my computer, or have all of my comments been deleted? It’s probably just Disqus glitching again, but it says that my comments have been removed.

      • TheMightyDekuWarrior

        It’s a Bomb and Chain.

        • StationaryBomb

I’d be happy to help :P

          • TheMightyDekuWarrior

I couldn’t find a “Ball and Chain” Zelda thing, so here’s this one.

          • StationaryBomb

            Oh boy…

      • LittleGreen

It says you have 230 comments. My Disqus glitched so it always says i have 7 notifications

        • The Doctor

Well, not ALL of my comments have been deleted, but around 30-40 have. I checked some previous posts, and even at the bottom of this comment section (sort by newest) they’ve been deleted.
