Zelda Fanart Spotlight – Purge

KnowleeMarch 23rd, 2013 by Knowlee

Today’s Zelda Fanart Spotlight is on deviantART artist animagess‘s Twilight Princess fanart “Purge“. This fanart is a creative take on the scene that takes place in the game where Link finds the Master Sword and goes to use it to return to his true form. Since the Blade of Evil’s Bane can repel evil it will remove the darkness that surrounds him. When that darkness is removed it is transformed into a dark crystal that later Link can use to change into his wolf form at will. Midna is also shown to be close at hand and ready to grab the crystal and keep it for future use.

I’m pretty sure Link feels that even though being a wolf does have its perks sometimes its nice to be a human as well.

I like the art style this picture is drawn in. It looks awesome and the expressions shown on the characters’ faces show their emotions quite well. I also like how the transformation back to a human is depicted in this. It’s not quite like how it’s shown in the game but it does fit well with the idea that Link has to be either touching or in the Master Sword’s vicinity to be cleansed of the darkness surrounding him.

The artist has other artwork located in their gallery. Please go give it a look and let them know what you think of this piece! Also please let us know in the comments section below!

Stay tuned for the next Fanart Spotlight! Until then!

I would say “First dislike”, but 2 other people have already disliked your comment.

  • Lupine Hero

    Wow, that’s… kind of disturbing.

  • firecrb

Great job. (I’m I the only one who thinks Midna looks Creepy)

    • PRDX4

      I agree.

    • S. Mario

Midna looked creepy in the actual game too. Especially since that smile of hers made her look like a psycho killer. I was glad she turned out to be an ally since I would hate to be her enemy.

      • Midnafan

that part of her character development was pretty cool. Her malicious looks matched her initially cruel personality and as you get used to her and her personality softens throughout the game, she looses that creepiness. Just from her tone, by the time you get to the end of the game (before the final fight with Ganon) she really isn’t that imp like anymore.

      Not alone anymore.

i think link looks a bit more creepy than midna….just because he’s all half man half wolf….weird but over all i liked it! :)

  • blueocarina

Is it just me, or does anyone else see the Triforce in the light shining from the hole in the ceiling?

    • Midnafan

      yup! :)

Whoa! Nice catch! I totally missed that the first time I looked at it. That’s such a cool detail!

    • oozy the wolf

whoh never would have seen that

It’s cool how they incorporated it to look almost natural, and not too obvious.

  • RubyDragonCat

I love it when people draw the transition between Wolf and Human Link like this.

    • Midnafan

you have to use your imagination for it too, cause there wasn’t really much of a transition in-game except for the very first time Link transforms, but even that isn’t very detailed.

  • Tehlul

Lol midna shouldn’t be able to get anywhere near the master sword much less touch it.

Why? She’s not evil. At least not at this point in time. Remember, since she got blasted by Lanayru she wished to save both worlds. The dark shard is an embodiment of evil power given to Zant through Ganondorf, which means the Master Sword may not shun twilight like it did the shard.

      • Dr_Stein

        It’s because she’s a Twili.

    • Midnafan

but Midna’s not evil. Shadow, yes but not evil. The Sword banished the curse on Link because it was a combination of Ganon’s power and Zant’s shadow power, making it evil. That was a central theme of the game. Light and Shadow on their own are good and balance each other out, but when they combine they create darkness. Which is interesting because they concept, portrayed by Zant and Ganondorf, is contrasted by the relationship between Link and Midna.

      • Tehlul

I don’t think the master sword discriminates. Shadow is Shadow. Link could touch it despite being swathed in shadow because its his destiny.

        • Reversion

I think that it refers to their intentions, with Zant having ill or evil intentions, and Midna helping Link, which is under any circumstances a redeeming quality.

          • Midnafan

well, once she’s no longer doing so for her own selfish needs, it is. :)

        • Midnafan

wouldn’t that mean it discriminates though if only Link could touch it? :/

  • baileygirl99

Whooooooaaaa. That’s cool, creepy, and weird all at the same time!

  • Mseevers95

I think I once saw a picture of Wolf Link peeing on a fire hydrant.

    • Midnafan

lol kind of wish you could do that in game. :P

  • Midnafan

that is cool! a little too cartoony but awesome. you know i always found it kind of ridiculous Wolf Link had that chain for the entire game. :/

The facial expressions in the picture are amazing. It really shows Link’s pain and how much Minda is enjoying it.

nice pic! nice feel to it. midna sorta looks evil lol. it disturbed me how she pushed link to get that helmet she has and then it all gets stolen in a flash and she doesn’t give a big deal to it.
