Zelda Fanart Spotlight – The Legend Begins

KnowleeFebruary 2nd, 2013 by Knowlee

Today’s Zelda Fanart Spotlight is on deviantART artist aquanut‘s Legend of Zelda fanart, “The Legend Begins.” This fanart shows the moment where Link exits the cave where he receives the Wooden Sword from the Old Man who resides there. With the way the artist depicts this small part of the game it really shows how important this little moment actually is. This could technically be considered to be the very moment that the legend truly began for the series nearly 27 years ago. This young man is thrust into this quest to save what’s left of Hyrule by defeating Ganon and returning peace to the land. It truly is a huge quest for one to undertake especially for someone as young as Link is in this game.

And it is a quest that we all know that only Link will be able to accomplish…

I like the way the artist portrayed this little moment that only appears for a few seconds in the game. It really makes one think about that moment and how important it is to the series as a whole since this pretty much was the moment that the ‘Legend of Zelda’ truly started. It really gives life to this little moment.

The artist has other Zelda-related fanart located in their gallery. Please go give it a look and let them know what you thought of this piece. Also please let us know what you thought of this in the comments section below!

Stay tuned for the next Zelda Fanart Spotlight! Until then!

When I first saw this, I thought it was a beam of light going ut to skyloft

  • Vink

When I saw the thumbnail, I thought the fanart had something to do with Wind Waker or Skyward Sword because the clouds are cel shaded looking.

This artwork is so beautiful that the first Legend of Zelda should be remade on the Wii U into a 3D game.

    • trippytriforce

I was thinking the same thing. I don’t want to have remakes hurt the development of the next zelda, but after seeing this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cwAAtFdRTE
a 3d remake of the original sounds awesome,

  • Hero of Time

This art is just so darn beautiful… A Zelda game should be made with this style.

“…Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and others have greatness thrust upon them.”

    • zoocha

      link is all three

      • Roth

Sort of. Link is only born with a great destiny; he always starts off a simpleton. He does achieve greatness through the course of his adventures, but not out of his own ambition. He rather has it demanded of him when only he can stand up to the threat of evil. So really, he fits the third category much better than the others.

        And let’s not forget:

Zelda is royalty. She was literally born great.
Ganondorf sought power. Through his own wicked designs, he achieves greatness.
Link, to end their conflicts, then bears a greatness that is thrust upon him.

        • CrimsonLoftwing

          You just blew my mind.

        • zoocha

wow yeah i was trying to relate it to the triforce, but you did a much better job of that

          • Cmaster

I think that Link is still all three, because he is born into different times, he has different lives, and different stories.

  • Neve

    …Except the sword isn’t wooden.

    • Tehlul

And I don’t remember there being being grass let alone a tree.

  • The Unicorn Hanger-Outer

This is awesome. I checked out aquanut’s stuff. He’s awesome!

  • Neve

You know, deviantart really has a horrible website design for what it’s doing.
It feels more like it’s promoting itself than the people who post images for the site.
I’d prefer it if these people moved to tumblr or something.

  • Luigicheesecake

    Picture looks a bit slanted

  • Kiku Honda

You know, this is exactly how I imagined this place to be. Exactly the same. Scary.

  • anonymous

The one thing i dislike, although i understand why it is there, is the obvious christian reference in the star in the sky, however, the picture and the meaning behind the picture is great. you people should definitely check out their deviant art, they’ve got a lot of great stuff

It’s called Sun, it exists so that we can live

  • MasterOfSwords1

It’s dangerous to go alone Link…

The Legend begins? Wait. This, plus a new Zelda game announced…

I love the angle of the piece. It reminds me of some of the camera shots from M. Night Shyamalan’s SIGNS– very different, very unique.
