The Wind Waker/Queen Mash Up

The Zelda community has seen plenty of mash ups in the past, mostly in parodies involving other video game series. What we haven’t seen much of however, is Zelda being put together with pieces of popular music, especially that of the rock genre. Sure, we have numerous musical covers floating around on the internet of familiar Zelda tunes, but the games themselves are rarely affiliated with actual, recognised pieces of music. One YouTube user, obliviousfilms has recently filled this particular gap in the Zelda fandom, putting together The Wind Waker and Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” to form a surprising and very original video. Hit the jump to check it out!

It’s often said in the world of art that the simplest things are the hardest to put together successfully, but this video is a great example of a simple concept put together exceptionally well. Even though many of us are familiar with The Wind Waker and its many cut-scenes, the simple action of syncing it with “Bohemian Rhapsody” creates something which is very impressive and leaves a lasting mark long after the video finishes. My favorite part has to be the ending – the scene showing Link floating away from Daphnes Nohansen Hyrule after the final battle was strangely poignant, reminding me again why The Wind Waker is considered to have such a powerful ending overall. The final lyrics are also wonderfully symbolic of the game itself, rounding the song off nicely with a flourish. Before watching this video, I never would have imagined that The Wind Waker and Queen could come together as they seemed initially like two very different entities, but as the video shows, they actually go very well together.

But what did you think? has the video left a lasting impression on you? Would you like to see more unexpected mash ups with famous songs? Tell us in the comments below!

I love that it’s the Wembley Stadium version of Bohemian Rhapsody, including the audience’s cheers and singing along. I have that concert on Blu-ray and its INCREDIBLE!

I have never heard a live performance of Bohemian Rhapsody before. That was a pretty awesome performance. Excellent song anyway; love Queen! The video was put together pretty well with the song. Also, loved the little hand-drawn Freddie Mercury placed at the end with the 16 bit Triforce above his head. That was a nice touch. It’s sad that he had to die so early in his life. He was one of the greatest rock vocalists who ever lived, in my opinion.

I think wind waker is probably the best suited to Bohemian Rhapsody too

  • baileygirl99

  • QuikSlvr223

Zelda and Bohemian Rhapsody in the same video.
I think I should kill myself, because there is no point to life after seeing that. I can die now. My life is complete.

Pretty cool. But it would have been a lot better without the jarring cuts between the studio version and the live version.
