[UPDATED] Oracle of Seasons/Ages releasing on 3DS VC

TimothyFebruary 21st, 2013 by Timothy

[UPDATE: Eiji Aonuma announced on Miiverse that the games will be released in other territories besides Japan, but that it will take a while longer.]

During today’s Nintendo Direct presentation, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata announced that Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages, originally released for Game Boy Color, would be heading to the Japanese 3DS Virtual Console starting next Wednesday, February 27th. The two games will price at 600 yen each and will also be available to download as a bundle for the reduced price of 1000 yen. This calculates to about US$6.50 for one or approximately US$11 for both Zelda titles in the bundle.

Oracle of Seasons and Ages will only be available to purchase from February 27th until March 20th from the Japanese 3DS Virtual Console.

Wondering if these games will be released in other territories? The answer is yes! Jump inside for the quote from Mr. Aonuma!

Eiji Aonuma has been posting on Miiverse with tiny teases about the new Zelda Wii U and such. Today he mentioned that they only have release dates for the Oracles games for Japan, the two games will certainly appear in other territories.

“The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons/ Oracle of Ages will be released for Virtual Console on Nintendo 3DS in Japan, but it’ll be a little while longer until they’re out in other territories. We’d like to ask for your patience until they’re ready for release. Thank you!”

It looks like we might have a bit of a wait, but it’s reassuring to hear that they won’t be Japanese exclusives like so many other Virtual Console releases have been as of late.

Are you excited to see these games on Virtual Console? Have you even had the chance to play these before? Let us know in the comments!

These are the only two Zelda games that I’ve never played and no, I don’t count the CD-i games.

I loved Oracle of Ages and Seasons. They were my 2 and 3rd games I ever played after Links Awakening. To all of you who haven’t played them, definitely get them, and both at that. There is a special password you get after beating one of them that links your game to the other one giving special endings, access to new items such as the master sword, an extra heart container and more.

  • A_LINK_IN_TIME

Great. The 3DS will not have almost all the Zelda classics available.

    Just need Majora’s Mask 3D. ;)

and a link to the past……then it would be complete up to windwaker.
I’d rather see windwaker on 3ds than wiiu…..

Why do people think ALTP would work well on a handheld small screen?

        • Jason West

worked good on the original ds screen. when we had link to the past on gba with four swords… EDIT: or I thought it was good anyway

          • Kravik

I might have worded myself wrong. What I meant to say is; Why on EARTH would anyone play a game that is SO awesome on the big screen, on a small screen?

I see it as an insane waste.. I did not even play MC on the GBA .. I got a game boy player for my Game Cube, and played it on the big screen! .. Worth every cent! …

          • Altair_420

The fact that its portable has a lot to do with it. I much prefer the original 64 version of OoT, but that doesnt stop me from playing the 3ds version when im not at home. Same thing with ALTTP, obviously the snes version is better , the gba had less buttons to work with for one. It was still epic as hell to have the light and dark worlds in your pocket.

          • Kravik

I can see that argument. If one played it on TV first.

But playing ALTP on any hand held for the first time, is just plain stupid.
            :)

To each his own. Glad you enjoyed it. Yeah bigger screen is always better I have bad eyes and it makes it easier to see. I played Links Awakening on the Snes gameboy player but I also enjoyed it just as much on a gameboy advance sp. At least it’s not like the gameboy anymore. I like the back light lol :) C’mon it’s Legend of Zelda it’s going to be good on any screen :P

        • Altair_420

Have you ever heard of GBA ? You’re probably like 8 yrs old so I forgive you, but anyway I played the portable version of ALTTP to death on my GBA-SP until the battery finally stopped working like 12 years later. To answer your question: I dont think it work well, I KNOW it would work well.

          • Kravik

LOL .. So fun when people with a lost case start discussing the person, instead of keeping to the case. :) I own ever single Zelda game ever released by Nintendo. Except the game watch games..

And I can only restate my question: Why do people think ALTP would work well on a handheld small screen?

If you played the GBA version you robbed yourself of a truly epic experience on the big screen! ;) (I hope at least you had the decency to play it on a GBA SP.)

            HEhe..

            PS: I am 29 years old. :D

          • Altair_420

Did you even read my post?
            =/

          • Kravik

You think I am 8 years old? Well the joke is on you! ;)

  • Pathwaystar

I have played these games and am currently replaying them. I forgot How much fun these games are. So excited for the release date for these in America!!!!!!!!!!

  • TheRizardon

    Way past cool.

  • Olamarr

The only issue I have with Virtual Console is that I cant use it on my gameboy payer, but this is still awesome.

I’m so happy Oracles is getting the love it deserves. Imo these are pretty underrated games in the series.

  • Jason West

I wonder if they are going to put where you could trade rings with another person that owns Seasons or Ages. Like they did with the GBC games? I don’t know how they would unless they made them into 3D Classics….not complaining though..just wish that we could get the third oracle game as well maybe as a successor along with a fourth “oracle” game? retail would be awesome!
