Curiosity Shop #114: Zelda Dungeon Mailbag

Axle the BeastFebruary 28th, 2013 by Axle the Beast

Hey guys! Got your mailbag for this week. Once again this mailbag is largely dominated by future Zelda game speculation questions, as well as a few timeline ones brought on by Hyrule Historia. I actually got my copy of that finally, so I can provide better answers! There are, however, a number of broader Zelda questions and ones about specific games, as always. We also talk about Smash Bros! 14 questions in all. Enjoy! You can watch the video here or check out the embed after the jump.

Questions and timestamps:

(00:22) – What new Zelda characters do you want to see in Super Smash Bros. 4?
(01:22) – What do you think of Nintendo bringing several Zelda villains back as a group in a new game?
(02:32) – What kind of role to you want Link to play at the beginning of Zelda Wii U?
(03:11) – Would you like to see an older Link than we have ever seen before?
(03:57) – How would you like the creators to handle Ganondorf when he returns in a future game?
(05:39) – Do you think Zelda 3DS will be a follow up to the DS games or a whole new entry in the series?
(06:40) – Do you think Nintendo will ever explain in more detail who exactly the Sheikah are?
(07:41) – Why does Zelda have the Triforce of Wisdom if she never really displays wisdom?
(08:29) – Do you think that Ganon in A Link to the Past is too easy?
(08:37) – Who do the Gerudo worship or serve Ganondorf?
(09:04) – What’s your theory about the scene with the moon children in Majora’s Mask?
(09:45) – If Valoo was descended from Volvagia, does that mean that the Gorons used to worship Volvagia?
(10:50) – Did you like the stealth part in Skyward Sword, and should Zelda have other parts like it?

Be sure to submit your name/username and questions to our contact page, or if that page doesn’t work then email them to mailbag@zeldadungeon.net for next week’s mailbag! You can also use my Twitter or Facebook, or use the Mailbag Thread on the forums!

Can you guess the quote on the paper, the sound at the beginning, or any of the music? Include them with your question and you might guarantee it gets answered! How about your thoughts about the questions? What new Zelda characters would you like to see in the new Smash Bros. game? What kind of role would you like to see Link play, and would you like to see him older? And how would you like the creators to handle Ganondorf in his next appearance? Tell me your thoughts on these and any other questions you want in the comments!

    ANOTHER EPIC COMMENT!

  • Return of Agahnim

Music includes the city in the sky theme, hidden village, chamber of sages (?), overworld theme from links awakening.

  • Return of Agahnim

Ended with ballad of the wind fish from majoras mask, not sure about the theme before it

    • Hero_of_Skyloft

“Ballad of the Wind Fish from Majora’s Mask”? I think it is susposed to be “Ballad of the Wind Fish from Link’s Awakening” correct me if I am wrong

      • Impala

The Ballad of the Wind Fish was in Link’s Awakening, but the Indigo-Go’s from Majora’s Mask did an in game cover of the song.

        • Hero_of_Skyloft

Oh, ok. Thanks. I didn’t remember what song they did

        • baileygirl99

          Coolness!

  • rjhewgyrfu (aka ruifgyqforug)

Nice mailbag. Do I have to guess the music in the very beginnig too? :P If so, it’s from twilight princess… One of the sad themes… :P Gerudo Desert? (At night?) HField at night? Something like that. :P Oh wait, isn’t it the hidden village? I love snipering bulblins with my hawkeye there.

The sound at the beginning… IDK. Same for the quote. The first music is from the Lakeside Laboratory. (Love it. :P ) Or Granny’s shop, it’s the same one.

Second music from Chamber of Sages, probably the most annoying in oot. (Especially if you’re doing an speedrun with not too many glitches and you have to watch through all those cutscenes… :P )

Third music: City in the Sky! Yay! My absolute favourite theme in TP! And I know I’m gonna be hated for saying that! :P (And BTW, it’s also probably the dungeon with the most unoriginal name. :P )

Fourth: something from the older games. The main zelda theme, but I really can’t say from which game.

Fifth: A fun theme from an older game. Very fun, actually. Can’t say any more. :P

Sixth: Hidden village… I think… I’m not sure though… it may be somthing like Romani Ranch, I’ve never played MM.

And yes, I did spend the whole time I was watching this video listening to the music and not paying attention to the questions. =P =P

    • Vink

Fourth music is from Link’s Awakening overworld theme.

    • Vink

Sixth music is The Ingos song from Majoras Mask.

  • BlackRaven6695

For the next Zelda game I’d like to see to see Ganondorf start out not completely evil. Through various events in the game he becomes more evil (a bit like Macbeth) and eventually his own evil potential consumes him and he transforms into pig Ganon for the final boss fight.

    • Rid the Dragon Master

i think they should do Ganondorf evil to start, but a greater evil appears when Link first confronts Ganondorf (sometime after the first few dungeons), and nearly kills him. then, Ganondorf becomes a good guy, and aids Link in some way during the final dungeon. he then leaves, saying he will be back some day, and that LInk should prepare himself.

      • hyrulemayor

        that would be really stupid

      • Red-tuniclink

        That is really unoriginal.

  • mcineri

Have you played Adventure of Link yet? Cause if not you are wrong.

  • Vink

The sound at the beginning was the Gerudo motor boats in Majoras Mask?

  • Vink

Dude, if you answer simple questions with a simple yes or no, why do you even bother putting them in your mailbag videos?

    • http://axlethebeast.com/ Axle the Beast

      Because funny.

      • Anonymous

Are you ever going to do a “Worst Questions Ever Asked” video?

        • L Lawliet

Ooh, that would be awesome! (And funnier still.)

        • http://axlethebeast.com/ Axle the Beast

Usually if I get an exceptionally terrible one that’s actually funny, I answer it after the mailbag as an extra in place of or alongside the bloopers. =)

      • L Lawliet

Damn funny. (I mean it, kudos.)

    • baileygirl99

Usually the simple answers are so pointless that he HAS to put them on there. Just for laughs!

  • Skybird11

I think the wise old man should get the triforce of wisdom

  • LoserKlink

I have a thought regarding the question about Zelda’s wisdom. Going by both the comments of NPCs throughout the series about how great she is and the pristine state of the kingdom at the beginning of most games, I feel we can conclude Zelda is in fact wise as a ruler. Yet, it’s always the bearer of the Triforce of Power who is able to undermine her wisdom and bring chaos to the kingdom. She in turn exerts influence over Link by having him fight for her. Then Link, bearer of the Triforce of Courage, is the only one able to overcome the bearer of the Triforce of Power’s great power. It comes full circle, with each bearer of the Triforce trumping another, kinda like rock, paper, scissors.

    • npatoray24

thats an interesting idea, i dig

    • http://axlethebeast.com/ Axle the Beast

      Ya, that’s a good point.

    1. Ghirahim. Keep Link and Zelda. Maybe you can use Impa from SS instead of Sheik. P.S. I don’t like the copy characters with few changes.

    2. As in, MULTIPLE enemies from MULTIPLE games into ONE game? Maybe. I’d like to see the original Demon Tribe, which may include various demons and immortal entities from other games. Veran, Malladus, Demise, Ghirahim, etc.
    3. Same role as always! As the main character! P.S. Yes Village is classic. but what about a traveling swordsman?
    4. Nope. He’s just the right age(s) for me. Older usually comes hand-in-hand with higher ratings, more graphic graphics, and more intense romance. While romance is good, it could be overdone. P.S. Agree Axle.
    5. Make him actually be a hard boss! Swing sword, swing sword, swing sword, exploit weakness for (usually) immediate win.
    6. I don’t care. Just make one! I’d like to see a new game on the “Hero Lost Timeline” though…
    7. Eventually. That’s one of their big mysteries, and likely won’t spoil it when they’re not done with the series.
    8. Well, she displays more wisdom than many other characters! It could also be that her lack of Courage is inhibiting her ability to act upon her wisdom.
    9. He was the hardest Ganon I ever faced. But YES, he was easy.
    10. He’s their ‘rightful’ king, but we have little knowledge of worship or deities beyond Hylia, Majora?, the Big Three.
    11. Don’t have one. I don’t think we have enough information on them. P.S. Possibly.
    12. That connection isn’t confirmed. Eldin is more likely. It’s also possible Ganon turned Volvagia evil.
    13. Yes I did. It was a good throwback to item usage. I’d like to see it again.

I think it’d be interesting to see link as a soldier in a warring period of Hyrule between Hyrule and Ganondorf’s dark forces. To have Ganondorf be elderly and have him trying to achieve something that would return his youth and power to what it once was. I would want Link to of course wield the master sword and Hylian shield, But I would replace his bow with a crossbow, have him carry a hook shot, and a Hammer, Bombs, A Flail, an Axe, and probably some sort of magic gauntlets and grieves that are auto equipped sort of like his bracers in Ocarina of time. I think his armor should be customization as you progress through the game and find or bye new pieces of armor and that you should also be able to customize your shield and armor with custom colors and designs.

    • djunco

You’re kind of describing what you would find in a Skyrim game rather than a Zelda one. The medieval elements are present, but I don’t know if Zelda games should really focus on them, or aesthetic customization.

      • http://www.facebook.com/RyanF.Hullstrunk Ryan F. Hullstrunk

I don’t think they should focus on them. I think that those things should be an option.. I actually hate skyrim and I love the legend of zelda but I can admit that there are a few things that Zelda can learn from Skyrim and other games like it. They learned from Zelda a lot, so now it’s time that zelda learns from them and blows them out of the water.

      No.

    • http://axlethebeast.com/ Axle the Beast

      legit

  • Roth

Question 8: I had an article idea about this general topic, actually… Man, I need to get kickin’ and finish putting some things together so I can start really writing!

  • zdog

I love the idea of a zelda/shiek combo.

  • http://twitter.com/DarkMachi DarkMachi

Hey Axle, do you have all of the zelda games right there on the ready in case you need it to answer a question? X3 You are awesome.

    • http://axlethebeast.com/ Axle the Beast

      Maayyyyyyyybeeeeeee…

  • Papayas

Wisdom, knowledge, and intelligence are not the same thing. I’m amazed at how people can’t seem to grasp that concept.

  • http://www.facebook.com/michael.philliber.7 Michael Philliber

the first song is from The Hidden Village, i find this obvious, but of course i think the song fit going into a mysterious village armed with a bow to snipe fit perfectly.

  • http://www.facebook.com/michael.philliber.7 Michael Philliber

Doesn’t Wisdom in most fantasy games stand for magical prowess anyway? not actual smarts? Just saying that is the term usually used for it.

  • baileygirl99

    GHIRAHIM!!!!
    Meh…
    Meh…
Not really. And yes, they are appealing.
Explaining the connection to Demise, if there is one, would be cool…but it would be pretty hard to go into depth with Ganon/dorf’s background…
    It varies…but I hope not anymore Toon Link…for now…
No. Sheikah don’t deserve a game. But, Nintendo doesn’t really need to go into more depth with them.
    Well……………………..
    Idk.
It’s dumb. Women should rule. XP especially when there’s only one guy.
It makes no sense to me.
    Say whaaaaaat???
The stealth part was okay…but I got so freaked out and was on seriously high alert. It was scary.

  • yopersonguy

    6:40 is my question!!! woot

Why is the Volvagia/Valoo thing confusing? Just because an ancestor was evil doesn’t mean its descendants have to be as well.
